Keep in mind the words "in this case". You're not wrong to say that hypercritical Disney fans are in the minority in the grad scheme of things. But in this case, almost everyone who has caught wind of this change has been displeased with it and that includes rabid Disney fans and even the general public.

Really? I think the scene is pretty good still. Of course I never thought the old scene to be funny, nor understood what the auctioneer was really doing when I was younger.

And you are certainly entitled to that opinion. I'm just saying the majority doesn't feel this way and Disney should be conscious of that when rolling it out. But even for those of you who don't mind the change, I still don't think it can be sold as something iconic. Disney needs to know that they can't force an iconic scene on people since these things have to happen naturally.

Remember a few weeks ago when people were here saying the same thing about Pixar Fest and the alien popcorn buckets? So I think you might have it backwards. It's not the rabid Disney fans who are a small majority, it's the online Disney critics who are, and I suspect many of them are rabid fans on the down low.
I was definitely on the more rabid side when I worked a mile north of the park. Not 200 visits a year rabid but probably 2-4 times a month (mostly with my wife and 2 young daughters) excluding the summer where we were blocked out. I was never one to need the "hip" thing they were offering at the park but I was one of those that picked apart every inch of chipped paint, light bulbs that were out, etc. Then one day I said, man, you are an idiot. You are in an amazing place and you aren't enjoying it because something isn't painted. My attitude completely changed...now I just hate the crowds. No sense over analyzing something...if it gets to the point you are dumping on everything they do, you might just want to start going someplace else that you can enjoy (like a mental hospital)

Yeah, I don't think you have any actual data to make such a claim. We do have fairly reliable attendance reporting and our own observations though to inform us that "everyone", despite endlessly complaining about this stuff online, seems to end up embracing everything they do. Therefore I wouldn't expect Redd to be any different. We'll see, maybe it'll be different this time.

You are exactly where I am, no need to over analyze something that should just be enjoyed. If you don't enjoy it, time to move on and find something new to enjoy. This used to be the way life was lived. The internet really has changed society to be hypercritical over everything constantly until the end of time.

They missed an opportunity to have some area entertainment. Have Redd and the Auctioneer strolling around New Orleans Square, and somewhere they set up an auction. They could pick random people from the crowd and have them "auction off" their Mickey ears or a pin or whatever they might have. It would be a lot like the stormtroopers/jawas in concept except more of a show.

I dunno, I barely put thought into that.

Thats ok. Disney didn't put much thought into it either.

Every free thinker hates it but Disney blogger shills will flood the internet with their love for the change just as they have for Mission Breakout and Pixar Pier.

“I was very against changing such a classic scene but after seeing it in person I think it’s pretty cool. The Imagineers did an outstanding job making a character that little girls can look up to. As Walt said Disneyland will never be completed.

Oh, and thanks for the free popcorn bucket, Disney!”

"They don't hate like I hate, therefore the only way for them to have an opinion different from mine is that they're on the take!"

Nice conspiracy theory to assuage your fragile ego.

Any proof that all bloggers are literally shills and that you shouldn't be applying Occam's Razor that bloggers are a self-selecting group of fans?

The auction pirate was a legend. Just amazing voice acting and dialogue that leaves you incredulous. Maybe not in great taste, but what the frig? It's Pirates. It's a ride with a cheaply animated tacky skull on the wall telling you to remain seated and static skeletons drinking booze in a cave. Just leave it alone.

I was with you until you called the talking skull cheap. He’s off limits.

I never said they were paid shills by Disney, just that they're shills. Of course I'm not serious in saying that that if you enjoy it you can't think for yourself, but if you do enjoy it you can't think for yourself and likely are basing your opinions of it on something outside rather than what's present. It's ridiculous the amount of people I've seen say this is a great change and refuse to admit how awful the voice acting and dialogue is because of a political bias. It's stupid.

'Shill' means someone who's paid.

Not necessarily. Just that there's something in it for them. That can be from sort of political agenda, more IPs in the parks, or just clicks on their YouTube channel or blog.

It's odd to me that you are so adamant in your belief that no one could sincerely appreciate the recent changes at DLR.

The scene itself is pretty terrible even when not compared to what came before it. When judged just on the most basic criteria of "is it funny" I've yet to see one person who said it is.

It wasn't meant to be funny. It was meant to be horrific. It was meant to be disgusting.

Part of truly funny is the juxtaposition. The fact that these people are so terrible, they are so backwards.

That was part of the story telling of the ride, and why the scene worked so well.

But, in a world where nuance is lost...I get it.

I guess they succeeded if that was their intention with this change.
