Welp, the ride reopened yesterday. Overall, I would say it was a mixed bag.
Negatives:
-The new scene is a bit.. Eh... It's pretty lackluster. The dialogue is choppy and unnatural. The scene could have been much funnier if they had just revised the script a bit.
-Redd's voice. It sounds fake and choppy. Doesn't really fit the rest of the attraction.
Positives:
-Refreshed audio, lighting, and costumes.
-The new "transitional scene" which bridges the gap between the present (skeletons) and the past (PIRATES)!
-The removal of that AWFUL projection on mist effect that hardly ever worked as it was intended. Let's just hope this means the eventual removal of ALL OF DAVY JONES' NARRATION!

Online, people are loving this new redhead. "Now girls have their own Jack Sparrow to look up to!"

I fully expect Redd to stop making regular appearances by the end of the year, showing up sporadically next year, than fading away into the abyss of forgotten Disneyland face characters. She serves one purpose- to help ease fans into the new scene by giving it validity outside of the ride. She's poorly written inside the ride, her PR blog posts are poorly done, and if they want young girls to have a Pirate "role model" so they can sell more merchandise, they should do it justice by making the character of the same caliber as Jack Sparrow in terms of depth and writing.

-Redd's voice. She sounds IRISH or SCOTTISH! I thought this was supposed to be the CARIBBEAN!!!

How many Caribbean pirates were native to the Caribbean? And of those that were, how many grew up with the native indigenous tribes rather than in a European settlement?

IOW, there was no Caribbean accent back then. If they were White, they were European foreigners and immigrants. And since Redd is a redhead, it seemed typical to assign her ancestry to either Irish or Scottish. And there's this...

Yep, I brought up Anne Bonny in the Pirate refurb thread. Anne, which is rumored to be a very distant relative of mine (my family is originally from Cork as is Anne), appears to be the inspiration for Redd.
