There are pages and pages of cast member who were laid off being called back. It’s picked up steam the past few weeks.
Hearing that it’s picking up steam is great news. I think staffing is the key to getting the wdw we love back.

I don’t think either Canada or Joan are letting people travel at the moment.

More to the point the US isn’t issuing any visas except in emergencies, and I don’t think working for Disney constitutes an emergency.
Canadians are allowed to travel, and the US is allowing student visas right now

I’m fairly sure the international exchange programme CMs aren’t on student visas though, they’re on working visas. It’s open to those who’ve recently graduated, for a start.

Cultural Exchange CMs are on a student visa, Cultural Representatives are on a special visa created exclusively for Disney. If Disney really wanted to get the cultural programs restarted, it could with Canadians and Mexican students, not saying it was immediately or likely, but it’s not impossible. Eventually they’ll need this cast base back.

To get back on topic,
As of April 13th, do we think diminished parties will happen or not?
Im thinking no for Halloween but yes for Christmas.

I’m also wondering if they’d do something after hours at DAK like the lion king party thing a few years ago. I feel like DAK is in the best situation to want to offer this as the other parks don’t need a draw as much as this one does at night. Just a thought.

They might be able to. Although there was massive international outcry about the student visas because they were only being granted if tuition had returned to full time in person teaching. And of course many like Harvard and Yale hadn’t done so.

That said, according to Disney, they are on the J1 visa which is not the same a regular student visa.

Plus according to the website, it’s the Cultural Representatives that staff the pavilions at Epcot, AK (for SE Asia and Sub Saharan Africa) and AKL (Africa). The Cultural Exchange programme doesn’t mention those roles at all.

Not to say Disney couldn’t change the programme. But there are also union rules to consider, if they haven’t yet recalled everyone who has that right (which runs to the Fall I believe).

Canadians are allowed to travel, but there are a lot of hoops involved, including a mandatory quarantine period upon return to the country.

I suppose that wouldn't really be an issue for someone going to the US for 6 months or however long to work at Disney, though.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
An extra $300 a week until September 6th, under CARES Act III. Florida unemployment benefits run out after 26 weeks. The CARES Acts have extended that to 50 weeks.

Not Disney wages
A Disney employee making $13/hr pre-Covid would be eligible for $250/week Florida unemployment benefit (they don’t make enough to qualify for the max) and then +$300 cares act = $550/week

At Disney’s new $14/hr min wage they would make $560 plus benefits.

The big issue is going to be benefits expiring.

I would think both parties are still in play until we hear otherwise.

My best guess is WDC is waiting to see if our national Covid numbers start to plummet due to the vaccine distribution. We aren't there yet.
It has little to do with COVID numbers and more to do with evaluating what they can cobble together at what price and can they get enough affordable staffing to execute it. Remember no CP and there is a major labor shortage in Florida.
