News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

That's kind of stretch considering that Hollywood Blvd at DHS is basically the same thoroughfare just bigger and without the Red Cars.

Good point. For example, I can't even tell which Carthay Circle is which.

It's also virtually indistinguishable on the inside as well.

Yup. But that was when the only real image they shared was this one, which was an extension of the 2008 Victorian re-theme of the 2001 Paul Pressler cheap-out theme.

But is that even still part of the plan? Now they are moving Flik's Flyers to the old Maliboomer pad themed to Inside Out, and turning the California Screamin' load station into a bizarre combination of an old Trader Vic's and a random drive-in restaurant circa 1960. It just seems weird and slapped together now.

Maybe they didn't pick the best concept art? Or maybe they still don't know what they are really doing because John Lasseter can't sober up long enough for a full creative review meeting? And is Michael Colglazier also drunk? I can't think of any other explanation here other than all the senior execs are drunk most of the time. Seriously. :hungover:

Maybe insiders know but the art makes it look like the revamp is all mid century (even the kiosks across from TSMM look different...

I was hoping for more detail not less

Not evident in any artwork, but I do hold hope that at some point they will build something of a berm behind Screamin/Incredicoaster to block the outside views.

Atleast everything being put in DHS can be fit in the theme. This is a total mishmash, DHS has always been about movies, now it's taking guests into the world of movies and adding guest space to mostly backstage areas.

The park is and always has been about far more than "movies." And just because the source material for a land or attraction comes from a movie does not at all mean the land or attraction is about movies. Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land are scant about movies. Fact. Period. End of sentence.

Think about how Pandora and Cars Land fit their respective parks. The justification is in the themes of the lands themselves. Yet the Imagineers have provided no justification whatsoever for SWL and TSL, except that their source material stems from a movie franchise. That is frightening.

The theme of Cars Land is the franchise "Cars" as much as the theme of Pixar Pier is "Pixar." I bet many Imagineers read this with utter confusion.

Side note. As much as I enjoy Buena Vista Street at DCA, its size and location smack dab at the entrance to the park is an issue. It's always so crowded, it's tough to take in the ambiance. DHS aka MGM's (I'm referring to it as such from this point on) streets have the space and that elusive ambiance, as well as attractions that feel weirdly missing from DCA such as the Tower of Terror and even the Aerosmith coaster. They definitely should have featured the latter at DCA from day one. On the other hand, DCA has the red car, superior street entertainment (except the suitcase and a dream show...ugh!) and the Carthay Circle, which has a wonderful lounge serving fantastic booze. You really need to combine both. If you're at DCA, you've got the superior bar and street shows, best viewed while a trolly transports your drunken self to the bug land and back. At MGM, you've got room to breathe, the superior Tower and that guilty pleasure Aerosmith coaster where you go through a donut.

This place actually appeared in Beverly Hills Cop III, which purported it featured utilidors similar to The Magic Kingdom and a miniature train similar to EPCOT's Germany pavilion, although I think the former was Hollywood magic. Anyway, George Lucas himself appears in a cameo...

I was there during filming. No, I never got on screen.

Late to the party. Just heard about this from my niece who saw a local news story claiming California Screamin (which she loves dearly) was "closing permanently" to make way for "an Incredibles attraction." Gotta love half-baked local news shows. I reassured her the coaster wasn't leaving.

My 1 1/2 cents: Love the new Coaster building. If they build an In n' Out between the bridge and Cars Land, they'll have the perfect transition! (I'm kinda serious, and yes I think In n' Out should be in DCA even though I don't like their bland burgers).

If the carousel becomes full of Bullseyes, then yay. IF.

Enclosed spinners suck, but I guess the inside of a coaster helix would've been a crummy view anyway.

Glad Mickey's mug is staying. It's like he's reminding everyone Pixar belongs to him.

In all, no harm done. Nothing really accomplished, either. I'm still predicting the Wild Mouse is gonna Be the West Coast Ratatouille ride with brand spankin' new plywood cutouts. :D

And California Screamin' is getting renamed to be the Incredicoaster.

That's gotta be one of the worst named rides I've ever heard.

Am I the only person who LIKES the name? haha

The new Screamin station looks pretty good but not worth the tradeoff of theme...

But California Screamin never had any theme... Talk about terrible names for rides.... California Screamin? I'll take The Incredicoaster over that any day, and Screamin is one of my favorites! But it never had a theme and now it's getting one. What they should have done from the start. And just further evidence that Disney California Adventure probably won't still be the name of the park in 5 years.

Looking at that artwork again after someone pointed it out it definitely looks like the final helix is enclosed in Red and then a show building looking structure back to the station. If we get an enclosed themed room with even just screens it will technically be a huge improvement of "theme". Also the enclosed tubes could potentially provide more effects. And what about the water coming out from under the launch?! Are they installing a soak zone?!

Character branding and effects are not theme.

Not to mention how confusing it is that Disney has both Pandora: The World of Avatar and Pandora: The World of Jewelry. I get confused which is which. I walked into Pandora between POTC and HM and asked where the Banshee ride was. The women, who looked like models, just stared at me with puzzled looks and went back to their gossip.

Just how much of a delusional fanboy do you have to be to see them overhaul what started out as a lazy, cheap park into a wonderful, cohesively themed, beautiful park... only do undo all of that only a few years later for the sake of cashing in in IPs and still defend the decision?

For the ticket price, I expect a premium experience. The Six Flags philosophy of merely slapping a brand on coasters and rides as an alternative to actual theming and storytelling is PRECISELY what Pixar Pier is.

But... This is the part of Paradise Pier that was NEVER redone or fixed minus the addition of Toy Story. California Screaming as it stands now is the EPITOME of Six Flags. The queue is horrendous and plain. What will be "replacing it" will be miles better than what's there now, even if its not much. Screamin as it is, is a fantastic ride with NO SENSE OF THEME TO BE FOUND AT ALL.

People on here are saying the Carousel is going to be rethemed to Toy Story. Are you sure? There is an Incredibles logo on the side of the tent of the carousel.

She is working pretty late tonight.. 7:57 PM?!? Dang.

Looks to me the Incredibles logo on the side of the Carousel will be a Frozone M&G spot, and certainly looks like they're just replacing the Triton Carousel with a Toy Story one (which I'm fine with, Triton being so far from Mermaid is bizarre).

Character branding and effects are not theme.

If you can find anything at Screaming right now that equates to theme than please be my guest.

This is an improvement.

A roller coaster at a seaside pier isn’t some crazy stretch. Looking better isn’t a stronger theme. Having characters isn’t a stronger theme. Even better show elements are not a stronger theme. What makes Batman: The Ride special is its character branding. What makes Pixar Pier special is its character branding. Just because it is obscenely more expensive does not make it different from how Six Flags differentiates itself.
