News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

The Grove looks nothing like Downtown Disney.
Maybe I'm crazy, although I'm guessing I'm not based on @lazyboy97o's comment, but the way this building curves and has a square tower at the end at Downtown Disney reminds me a lot of the way the movie theater curves with a square tower at the end at the Grove. Obviously the Grove is way nicer, but they have a similar feel.

A shopping center is too kind, as most shopping centers in Southern California have spectacular water features if they choose to do something with water.

A few miles down the freeway from Disneyland is the Irvine Spectrum, which has fountains like this...

And this...

Other shopping centers in Southern California go even bigger with their water fountains, like this...

The thing they have at Pixar Pier, which is just a wall with enough water dribbling down it to create rust, is nothing like the local SoCal shopping centers do with water fountains.
You are absolutely right. I am not sure how that came to mind.

It is the most simplistic fountain; mostly concrete with a sheet metal logo.

So many cool looking fountains in those shopping areas and at Disneyland Downtown Disney entrance we still have that hideous fountain that is suppose to look like a hip and edgy Poppy flower. They really need to get rid of that thing and add a Disney inspired fountain that will liven the place and maybe even fit in a more fitting footprint

Why is it that every resort has a cool Disney inspired fountain and Disneyland still has nothing

They really do look similar. But its obvious which is which because the Disney one is the cheaper one...

The curving of the buildings don’t make them look similar, in my opinion.

The aesthetics of The Grove don’t compare to Downtown Disney. The Grove is classy and it’s obvious it was built for those with money and prestige, especially when entering from the Whisper Lounge alley or the parking lot. Downtown Disney is a poor man’s Grove and is laughable in comparison.

Just curious, have you been to The Grove?

I have, yeah. It's a very different atmosphere than Downtown Disney for sure, but if you were to paint that theater the same color of green and gold that Downtown Disney has I think the similarities may pop more.

The Grove is stunning. And its a fun place to hang out as well as splurge on a meal.

Agreed, but my favorite is Original Farmers Market that’s “attached” to The Grove. When I was in high school, my friends and I would shop and see a movie at The Grove, then go to Original Farmers Market for lunch or dinner, depending on the time of day. We did this both during the week after school and on the weekends.

Good times.

My General Thoughts After Visiting Pixar Pier:

The entryway is much improved. Can’t attest to the inside of Lamplight Lounge, as there was a horde of “trendy lifestylers” making it impossible to enter (or maybe I just felt it wasn’t worth the effort). Knick’s Knacks was ok. Decoration took a hit, but content and flow got an upgrade.
Like Lamplight, I was not waiting an hour for Lemon Dole Whip, even if it did sound good.
Incredicoaster, was a mixed bag. Everyone in our party that hadn’t ridden Screamin, loved it, others, found it meh. The biggest offenders were the second tunnel and babies on sticks. Edna is a close second though.
The Incredibles area is just bad. The cookie stand/ cart. Fountain looks worse in person. Those godawful restrooms didn’t change.
Toy story is okay, but giant Jessie might kill it.
The promenade was a huge upgrade, except for some games and Bing Bong’s interior.
I get the aesthetic that they went for with the new games, and it almost worked on Wall-E, except for the Wall-E and Eve easing things. They are so flimsy, that whenever they come down, they shake and hit the surrounding areas. La Luna just needs more physical stars for during the day, and Heimlich just needs some more background decorations.

Overall, some things went up in quality, some took a plunge. But alas...

All I can say is that Guardians is basically the opposite of Pixar Pier: Aesthetically horrendous, but it has the interior content to back it up.

Does it though? I was more or less with you up until this point. I don’t think the museum in the old lobby works at all. Much too small of space for what they re going for. The TV with the Guardians joking on a loop only makes it worse. The old library is fine and the AA is cool. The boiler room works and has some nice new effects. But the on ride show scenes are a huge downgrade to Tv screens from physical sets and great effects like the star field effect that actually made you feel like you went somewhere instead of watching GOTG on TV.

All very true and valid points. I agree that the lobby should be grander considering what they are going for, but what little there is actually works pretty well, IMO. Plus, I’d rather hear the Guardians cracking jokes in an intentionally cheesy museum films than hear what Imagineers though would a a clever call out to their real feelings on a project (it wasn’t clever) in a Six Flags queue video. The only place where I would tend to agree with you would be in the boiler room. That just falls completely flat.
