I love the rides more than shows- any day. My main point is this- Just because DCA is far from perfect, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a full day's worth of attractions and dining. Even the worst Disney park- the Studios in Paris- has attractions worth seeing. Is it a bad park- yes, mostly, but you can always find something enjoyable if you look for it.

A very good point.

Then after Disney sees that the parks that are bad, they add a costly expansion.

And sometimes those expansions are not for the better...

This notion of balance is the same problem, shaping the parks based on something external to them. It should be about the best story and experience. If the best stories are based on IPs then so be it.
Midway Mania's a great example of a ride that only works as an IP. That's if you feel Midway Mania works, that is.

I would disagree. The wacky eclecticism of amusement piers are a huge well of inspiration for such attractions. Toy Story Midway Mania! is a prime example of “add characters to make it ‘Disney’” and the nonsense that makes Toy Story lands such a weak proposition, anything and everything “fits” so long as it is a toy version of whatever.

And DCA won't benefit? I can't see how SW:GE doesn't drive attendance at DCA next year.

You're talking sense. How dare you.

I think you and I are talking about 2 different groups of people. I'm talking about everyone, including tourists.

I'm also biased since I actually like DCA, so I could be totally wrong and DCA ends up being a ghost town in 2019.

I would be surprised if there wasn't a spike in attendance. Something about rising tides and boats.

I'm curious- but how do you fill out an entire day at DCA without riding the same 5 rides 20 times?

Start in Pixar Pier. FP Incredicoaster. Ride Toy Story Midway Mania. While waiting for your FP to come live, enjoy the Pier -- Mickey's Fun Wheel. Silly Symphony Swings. Goofy's Sky School if you have time. Ride the Incredicoaster.

FP Radiator Springs Racers. It's probably four hours at this point. Leave and plan to return later. Work your way backwards for attractions. All Pier attractions, even Mermaid. Ride Grizzly Rapids. Ride Soarin' over the World if feasible.

Time for Lunch! Enjoy the Carthay Circle.

FP for Radiator Springs Racers is probably live by now, go walk off that $100 meal by heading back to Radiator Springs. Ride the Racers. Radiator Springs by and large is better at night, but the Racers Ride is better in the day. Ride the other two attractions in the heat of the day, or plan on coming back at night.

Get out of the sun. FP Soarin' if you haven't visited already. Otherwise, FP Guardians of the Galaxy. Go check out the live stage show (this week's version is named Frozen). Explore the Hollywood section. Ride Monsters. Inc. Spend a couple of hours with the animation exhibits and Turtle Talk with Crush. Use your FP. See what's going down in the Bug's Life section, which will lead you to....

Dinner Time -- head over to Wine Country Trattoria. Have dinner, get VIP Fastpass line for World of Color. Visit Blue Sky Cellar. Stake out your seat for World of Color. Enjoy some wine and the end of the day.

Experience World of Color. Head over to Radiator Springs, stopping for Ice Cream. Enjoy Radiator Springs at night. Ride Luigi and Mater if you haven't already. Attend street events/parties back in Hollywood. Park is emptying out, hit attractions you want to revisit or may have missed.

Ha, on what planet? Didn't they even replace the best exhibit in there with an Anna and Elsa meet and greet?

Here's the big catch with DCA (IMO) -- on a busy day, a lot of those rides are not worth waiting for. And almost none of them are for small children. But if you are a looking for a far more casual day with older kids/adult friends who want decent table service and/or some drinks, and it's not suuuper busy, then DCA can be a lot of fun.

The only real stink bomb in DCA these days is the hollywood section. The rest is still bounds better (and loaded) compared to most places... including other Disney parks.

All of Pixar Pier is the new Stink Bomb--A crass, cynical, clueless, badly-designed stench-field of moron decisions. Even Goofy's Sky School is a better-handled remodel than Incredicoaster.

I hated DCA for years. I was nine years-old when it opened and I could tell even then that it was garbage. 2012 rolls around and I actually started loving the park. For the most part, I enjoyed the changes they made and I assumed they would continue to make GOOD and SENSIBLE changes to improve the park. Six years pass and I’m disgusted yet again. I still like DCA, but Disney just keeps ruining it with additions like M:BO, Pixar Pier, Marvel Land, and whatever else they have planned.

Just gives me a bigger desire to be in Disneyland. But then again, the blasphemy that is SW:GE is opening next year and I’m never going to be here for that. Ever.

The good thing is I will be saving money by not renewing my pass and can enjoy travelling around the country and to other parts of the world. Works for me.

Really??? Goofy's Sky School better than the Incredicoaster? It's one of the worst attraction that still exist in Disney Parks. Even Primewal Whirl is better (don't get me wrong both are awful but PW is a notch above).

Paradise Pier was always the most problematic part in DCA and Pixar at least adds some character to it (well, the lower part). It is certainly far from perfect but it's better than no change at all. And it also makes sense because Toy Story Mania was already there.

And sometimes those expansions are not for the better...
1) Cars Land in DCA: No need for an explanation here
2) The three-tiered expansion in HKDL (Toy Story Land, Mystic Manor, Grizzly Gulch) Made HKDL a noticable Disney Park and upped the park's attendance by 2.5 million.
3) Hollywood Studios expansion (TSL, SW:GE) Ok it's not open yet but it is 99% certain that it will increase the attendance of HS, like Pandora did in AK, and definitely make HS an full-day park.
4) Ratatouille in WDS Paris: Definitely not big but when you consider that the cost for it was $150 million (more expensive than Expedition Everest and the same amount as that ToT) it must be said that it has done a really good job in all perspectives.
