I don't believe people are saying Pixar wasn't a brand. What people are saying is that brand has always been linked to Disney in the public's consciousness. I knew Toy Story was Pixar, but I also knew it was Disney.

Ah two different debates going on here. I was just replying to Basil asking when Pixar became a brand -- not whether or not there's an association with Disney. Of course there is and I think both Pixar and Disney have benefited from having one another.

The Disney-Pixar branding was a response to Pixar’s strength as an independent brand that threatened the Disney brand.

Definitely a fair point. I've even heard some say Frozen is a Pixar movie...
You mean it's not?

Adjusting for inflation, Disney bought Marvel and Lucasfilm for about as much as they spent buying Pixar. Pixar was considered to be about twice as valuable as Star Wars.

Ok...then I am more than happy to say no amount of $$$ was ever worth investing into an attraction like GMR because of the nature of the ride itself. It was a boring clip show told through mannequins and one cool AA (the witch.) Updating it would have been a bad use of $$$ IMO because at its core, it still would have been the same ride. Even with better AAs, it was was a relic of an attraction from when people had an interest in 'studio' parks.
That's def your opinion. Truth is not many rides today were as creative as The Great Movie Ride. It has earned its place amongst the great classics that once graced EPCOT Center.

Obviously we're all entitled to our opinions... but in retrospect, The Great Movie Ride was no more creative than one of those '____ Movie' spoofs where it's just one movie reference after another. IMO there is no comparing it to the original EPCOT Center dark rides. It tried to check off the boxes of what a Disney AA dark ride should be, but lacked any of the soul or life (or, you know, movement) that made those other rides so great.

So when exactly did Pixar itself become a brand? Maybe I'm missing something but doesn't that seem kind of weird to anyone else? Like I get that individual Pixar IP's are popular, but when exactly did "Pixar" as a comprehensive brand become this thing that people find popular and trendy? Most people I know are still unable to separate a Pixar film from a Disney film.

Aren't they currently working on Painting the lower level right now?

OK, technically I'm talking about the exit gift shop. Yes, the rest of MM is still being painted. As you can see in the picture I posted, the work walls have been removed from the gift shop.

I was pleasantly surprised by the new MM paint job, but why the heck did they leave the lowest level of trim peach!?

The walls and scaffolding were actually blocking the lower level of trim, so those had to be taken down before they could access the bottom. They’re currently repainting it using cherry pickers. It will all be finished soon.

Now if they could just ramp up on finishing the coaster entrance, the wheel, and the Pixar Promenade area.... do they realize they only have about 40 days left?
