News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

I predict only Lamplight Lounge, Wheel, some ODVs, and incredible coaster will make it to the June 23 opening. It just looks like there's so much to be done with the shops and games portion.

Looking at the construction photos, it really is unfortunate they didn't do some essential components of the park correct the first time around. Fences are bland, the space between path and water is lifeless (give us pier supports! dock equipment, themed railing, rock work, maybe even move the Nemo seagulls there if we must really commit to the Pixar theme to get the budget for this. Can we justify kicking out Nemo from the subs?).

I wish they’d decide to skip the ugly ODVs and shift that money to a proper roof for the carousel.

Also will the wheel queue cover get any sort of update from the tarps/poles that barely provide shade?

I don't think the ODV carts cost very much to reskin. It adds character to the area. A new roof would cost much more.

Which is exactly what's wrong with the Pixar Pier redo. It's doing everything that's cheap and easy, while avoiding so many of the fundamental problems with the area.

This is going to be the second major overhaul/rebranding of the wheel, yet by all accounts the queue will still be the bland concrete bunker walls and ineffective canopy that it's had since opening day. Screamin's queue and the carousel will have some minor aesthetic changes, but the basic issues that have plagued both for 17 years will remain for the foreseeable future.

The 2010-12 changes were supposed to be cheap, quick fixes to hold us over until a mythical "Phase 2" project could make the real changes. Now that we're actually getting an overhaul of the area (which I'm honestly surprised happened so soon), it's avoiding the underlying problems completely, favoring cheap set dressings that won't add any meaningful value to the area. At the end of the day, all of the Pier's existing problems will remain, only now they'll have a confusing mishmash of Pixar characters added into the mix too.

If these things can't get fixed as part of a splashy, highly-marketed, major overhaul, is there any chance that Disney will correct their earlier missteps?

I just want to sit down and have a 15 minute conversation with Bob Chapek about why he decided it was a good idea to break what was not broken by throwing in IPs that nobody will care about in 10-15 years into places that don't make sense.
