Having a Feris wheel with a giant mickey face on it being an icon for a Disney park is just pathetic and flimsy , wow what creativity went into that one.
Well, the Mickey Face is a lot more charming than what it replaced. The bigger issue is the fact that Those In Charge thought a giant steel Ferris Wheel (and one that offers two wonderful modes: Boring and Vomit-Inducing) belonged in a Disney park in the first place.

Iconic is iconic. The audience doesn’t matter.

Audience matters because if your intended audience can't recognize it as being iconic, then its not iconic.

As has been stated a couple times by different people, a large majority of non-Disney fans couldn't name something about DCA as being iconic. And if certain elements that were considered iconic to some are gone, then Disney surely didn't feel them iconic enough to keep them around.

To be fair Walt also had a carnival area in the original plans for His park that he was going to build in Burbank where he also wanted to build a giant Ferris wheel themed to the old mill.
It wasn’t until the project got to big for the land got more money and moved to Anaheim when things started changing to whathe he ended up building.

Disney doesn't even think DCA is worth the same operating hours as Disneyland. They clearly don't think there is anything worth seeing there.

Lol... (I think you are being sarcastic, not sure tho?) I think that has more to do with crowd control and not letting both parks out at the same time at the end of the day which would be a nightmare for the already insanely backed up tram lines.

I have a feeling this will change when Marvel Land comes.

Wonder why they don't alternate closing times between Disneyland and DCA? Because they think DCA is garbage, probably.

They stagger them where DCA opens later than Disneyland and closes earlier than Disneyland because more people go to Disneyland each year, so there is more crowds over there. Also, Disneyland has more attractions than DCA so in order to do everything in Disneyland you need more time than you would in DCA.

They do the same thing in Disney World, as well as Universal Parks. Park attendance, amount of experiences for the guest and the time of the year are all the factors into theme park hours.

If something has already been established as being iconic, it’s not going to change, in terms of its status. It doesn’t matter what non fans think because it is what it is.

If someone has never listened to pop music, it doesn’t take away the fact that Michael Jackson is generally considered to be an iconic musician. It doesn’t matter that non fans believe.
