4. the marvel movies have ties to hollywood. that's seriously all I came up with. not very californian
San Diego Comic Con is one of the oldest, largest, and most popular Comic Book Conventions. It's popularity helped shape modern comic book culture. An argument could be made that comic book culture is as Californian as car culture.

Personally I don't think either land or Paradise Pier fit the California theme.

1. I watched the movie Cars on my Blu-ray player in my house in California
2. Flik looks like an ant I once saw in the backyard of my aunts house in Fresno.
3. There was a mermaid sighting once at the old Santa Cruz Pier.
4. Robert Downey Jr lives in Malibu

One of the greatest Disney parks is Tokyo Disney Seas. Does every land and attraction fully represent the sea? No. They represent the concept of the sea/exploration very loosely. Still, the park feels cohesive and is phenomenal.

I also don't understand what's hard to understand about a California pier. Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, Belmont Park, Balboa Fun Zone, and the famous Ocean Park Pier. These are pretty iconic and Paradise Pier clearly emulates these. You can argue about whether or not its executed well, but its still pretty obvious how it fits the "C" in DCA.

That’s the problem with DCA, it has no deeper sub theme. Sea in Disneysea is the boring surface theme. Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.) is the true underlying subtheme, whether it’s part of the society or just explorers and adventures (Indy, Captain Nemo, or the guest).

Same goes for Animal Kingdom. Nautazhu is that boring surface idea. Conservation, environmentalism, mans connection to nature is the true thread.

What is the connective thread of DCA? It needs to find one. Ideas, adventures inspired by California, media born out of California? Is the park a walk in Walt’s footsteps? They need something cohesive. The lands having to take place in California is an abject failure of what the park needs... a theme!

I've always seen the goal of DCA 2.0 to be Walt's California (1920's to 1960's), personally.

Still don't understand how people don't think a California Pier-side Amusement Park doesn't fit California, but okay.

I think it fit but I think the theming was pretty weak. I never got the feeling of being at a sea side Pier. No waves and hardly any sand anywhere. No wood. Lots of cement. And with Disney characters all over the place turning into Pixar, I’m not sure the slight thematic downgrade isn’t worth the aesthetic upgrades I’m anticipating. Especially considering the direction of the overall park.

The pier actually does have wood, that goes from the Screamin launch area and I believe continues all the way down to Mickey fun wheel.
It used to have more but they removed lots of it when Midway Mania was added

Yeah, i had hoped that when the midway mania ride was built and the midway games that they would have extended the wood throughout the area but instead the removed some of it, I think the problem was maintenance. Every so often they have to close off sections and replace the wood because it start rotting from the nightly or weekly spray washing they do through out the parks to clean the floors.
It would be cool if they revisited some of the remodel plans and added more wood around the funwheel concrete walls and extended the pier area. That is still one of the worst sections of the pier that needs fixing

Yeah I agree. I like Paradise Pier by the way. I just don’t feel like we re losing some thematic masterpiece or that it even feels like a CA seaside pier or a pier at all. I like the rides and kinetic energy. It’s a very pleasant place to be at dusk or at night.
