I have one from 2007 also. We are taking him with us in July, so I will let you know if he still work. *keeping fingers crossed*

I took our last July, and he still works, but he doesn't know about any of the new rides, and doesn't seem to talk as much as he did about park stuff. He tells more jokes than he ever does about ride information. He also doesn't seem to know about when the parades and fireworks anymore.

I still plan on bringing him this July, but he is more of just a novelty than a useful park guide.

I wondered the same thing. Our youngest wants to take Pal Mickey..and his outfits with us to in July. I didn't know if he would do anything or not, so I guess we'll bring him along.

Ironically I saw someone with one (a version 2 - the Mickey in his tux one) - just today going into Pirates. Hadn't seen one in the park for awhile prior to that. ;)

He not only still works, he helps you remember the good old days.

When we take him into the old Wondlers 0f Life pavilion during the F&W festival and F&G festival, he tells you about Body Wars and Cranium Command.

Yeah he does still work. But.. I thought they were replacing him with a nintendo DS unit that would give similar information. Did that come out and I missed it?

I believe that was officially scrapped. I think they're going more the way of phone apps now (the Verizon app comes to mind) because a phone is something you are going to have with you anyway in the parks, and its not something added for you to carry around.

(Although, I have to say, I got to try out the DS thing and it was awesome! I'd totally pay for that!)

With nearly 130 million units sold, it not only irks me that they scrapped it, it also looked like a sponsorship dream come true. I would gurantee at least a hundred thousand or more units sold on site the first year. It isn't like thy have upgraded to a new version in the past 2 or so years since testing. Shame. Especially for Disney, whou could have easily used another sponsorship deal.

I still have my Pal Mickey. I bought him in 2006 and brought him back in 2008 and he worked but only said the same old things. They should update him or at least do a new "chip" or something so I can keep my old one and keep bringing him to the parks. he was a great tour guide and played fun games.

He will work. As far as new sayings, etc... Take him to the Main Street Cinema, or any other store that sells him. They can do a small operation and he will be updated with new things. At least that is what I did every year after 2003.

That stopped when they discontinued the whole thing at LEAST a few years ago.

Actually it was never possible. It was a widely spread urban legend.

The drawers they used to put the Pal Mickey in only did a hard reboot of the system. Nothing was ever added. There was no "write" ability in any version of Pal Mickey.

And, as reported, they haven't had the reboot drawers for him in years and years anyway.

That's funny... I actually typed that I thought it wasn't accurate, and that I thought it was a myth. But then I thought about it, and since I didn't know for SURE, instead I just said I knew that at least it didn't happen "anymore". Serves me right for being chicken.

Is there a pin that interacts with its surroundings while in the park? i heard that there was a pin that wold respond to parades and different rides. Any ideas what it was? I took my pal Mickey in 08 and he was fun. The maid even left a towl pet next to him one day.

There were pins that were supposed to react to events in the park. It was during Pal Mickey's time and as I understand it they functioned on the same technology. I never saw one in a park. I only saw them in the pin store in DTD. If I remember correctly the one I saw had fireworks that would light up when you did things like enter the park or a parade came by.

Like I said I never actually saw them in use. I'm only going by what the CM told me at the time and I'm seriously fuzzy on the actual design, but I do know the pins existed at one time.

The 2nd edition of Pal - the one where he's dressed in a tux - has one of the interactive components in his hand. It was supposed to interact with the parade and other pins I believe but I've never seen one of the pins in person and have never had a chance to see Pal's hand do anything either.

I think the pins were expensive because they had lights and such and it seems like an idea that came and went before anyone heard of it.

I'd love to see one just to see Pal do whatever he's supposed to do around one but...unlikely that will ever happen at this point.
