Package or seperate

Do most of you bother to book rooms, tickets, flights seperate or do you just do package set by Disney? Just did the math and for seven nights and six day tickets I think I would save $167 by doing it seperate, but I have always done package because i figure less could go wrong.

We always do a package deal. It may be a little more, but for us its easier. We always drive down, but if we were to fly, we get the tickets on our own; those we can usually find cheaper getting it ourselves. Plus there are deals you can get a lot of times that can only be taken advantage of with a package. But thats US. Definitely see whats best for you.

We have always done a package with the Disney Travel Compnay..minus airfare. I do that direct with the airline with the best $$ and flights that fit my needs.

That $167 sounds like added travel insurance?

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples, ticket types, room types, etc....the difference shouldn't be that much - unless a certain piece is discounted.

I would not think so either, thats why I asked. Did not know if someone has found similar numbers. Play around yourself and see if I am missing something.

I would agree the difference sounds like travel insurance..which you would not get purchasing seperate. We always get the insurance with our package..thank god we have never had to use it.

We also do the package minus the flight, especially since we live so close to a Jet Blue hub, it's always cheaper for us the get the airfare on our own.

Insurance is $66.95 per adult, so $133.90 for 2 adults.

I'm thinking perhaps a difference in room type.

Without more info, I can't compare.

We (my agents and I) do this math everyday for clients, and it rarely differs by more than a few dollars (packages costing a few dollars more) - if we are comparing apples to apples. We usually have airfare separate.

We do the same. The savings sounds like travel insurance.

We usually do a package we have done it a few times and got great deals. But one time we did book directly through Disney and ended up with a great discount. But this time we checked and the package deal was better but you pay all up front.

But this time we checked and the package deal was better but you pay all up front.

Package:

- $200 deposit
- balance due 45 days before arrival
- if you cancel after 45 days, $200 penalty

Room Only
- 1 nights room cost with tax as deposit
- balance due at check in
- you can cancel up to 6 days before travel and get your deposit back
- if you purchase tickets separate, in advance, you need to pay for them in full at the time of purchase

We book our room & park tickets together.
We book our dining & link it to our room reservation.
We book our airline tickets separate.

Done packages and separate through work. It depends on the trip, and it changes. We always drive, so there isn't ever air fare. One year it was better going through my wife's work for tickets. This year we booked rooms and park hoppers all together.

The price should be nearly identical regardless of whether you are booking a room only or a package. Both have their pros and cons but all things being equal I would book as a room only vs a package simply because of considerably more flexible cancellation policies. Also if you are a Florida resident you can not get Florida resident pricing on tickets when you book a package. The rub is there are features and promotions that you simply can not get (namely dining plan and free dining) without booking a package.

Sounds like I am missing something then. Will play again with the numbers tonight.
Insurance being automatically added at the end it the most likely culprit. Other things that you will want to keep an eye on are ticket options (days, park hopping, water parks, etc) Room type (standard, preferred, king bed, etc) and travel dates. (Friday and Saturday nights are more expensive and seasons can change at some rather odd times) All of this stuff can randomly change every time you redo pricing online.

pretty sure I got dates the same, room types same, I am not near my numbers at the moment but Flight was quite different (maybe $100) ticket types the same. As with many things I probably pressed a wrong key and did not catch myself and missed it on the compare part.

I had done it myself seperately many times. Once discovering Kingdom Konsultants I will always have them take care of hotel and tickets and dining if necessary

I only leave out the air. I'm 10 miles from Boston so I can search and pick those on my own. Plus there are 2 other airports within 1 hour of where I live that I always have as a backup.

If you checked prices on Disney's booking engine you have to make sure it was the cheapest room category and ticket options. When pricing a package many times the system will default with water park options included. Also many times it will default with a higher priced room category. Don't trust the booking engine. Call Disney and ask it both ways.

If you added air on Disney's site there also may be the problem. Disney has bulk air and retail air. Bulk air is contracted rates with airlines that in some markets are higher prices than retail air. When you are in the booking engine in the air segment you can tell if it says in the right hand side of the page "non refundable" and payment due.
