I'm at Oogie Bash right now and heard an interesting tidbit from a cast member. I was buying a beer at the Karl Strauss beer cart and the lady told me that the location was soon going to become the location of the Baymax meet and greet location. The good beers were going to be relocated "around the corner". I didn't ask more as my fiance was ready to drink and find more treat trails

I think a lot of people are assuming the M&G would be indoors thus them having to repurpose space, but this outdoor corner of the courtyard actually makes sense and there should be plenty of room there.....if this is the case.

This is one of the most appropriate IP additions they've done in the park. I'd say more so than Cars Land. I just don't think its being done correctly
I agree except I'm waiting to see how final product turns out before I call good or meh or worse. But yeah, a sanfransokyo themed area in a California themed park seems appropriate

I really can't complain about it from a thematic standpoint, I just think the movie itself is undeserving of a land, even if it is as poorly done as this one will be.

It's really funny when you think about this. The Big Hero 6 movie is like 10 years old, its decent I guess but very forgettable. It's already on the edge of obscurity as far as Disney is concerned.

I'd completely forgotten about that movie until this bizarre D23 announcement, to be honest.

Yet to them theming it to this property makes sense. Like you said though, in 10-20 years will anyone remember this movie?

Why not just cut out the middle man and retheme Pacific Wharf to Herbie The Love Bug? After all, Herbie drove around San Francisco. And Monterey is near San Francisco, and has most of the same kind of fish and crustaceans as San Francisco Bay does. Plus sourdough bread and syrupy Chinese food and Ghirardelli's. So, it's perfect.

Why even get that Michelin Man robot involved?

Herbie The Love Bug San Francisco Wharf Experience! Presented by Disney+... Or something.

Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco has stuck around forever without needing a movie to base it off of.

It was even a popular media scene before Herbie. And you meet the nicest people on a Honda there, buying fresh crabs and stuff. All of San Francisco and Monterey Bay was the backdrop for those Honda commercials. And isn't Honda still a Disneyland sponsor?

You Meet The Nicest People At The Pacific Wharf Food Festival, Presented by Honda

Why am I the only one who thinks of this stuff? What the hell do they do in TDA all day??? 🤔

Because you are missing the entire point of this awkward, hamfisted retheme.

It's not about Big Hero 6, it's about throwing up some Party City Chinese lanterns, faux Japanese signs, and boom! "Asian land"!

A perfect compliment to "Hispanic Land" next door where the flying saucer McDonalds and leaking boat used to be.

Then they can pander to the local Asian market because you see, we have some loosely themed Asian stuff!

Disney's Panderland TM
We see you.

You aren't wrong. I've seen 3 Billboards in the last few days for "Plaza De Familia" at California Adventure.

Last I checked isnt that the area by Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta that has a mediterranean restaraunt that sometimes serves mexican food? How is this a good representation of the culture and why is it advertised as a big attraction?

Do Hispanic families really see this billboard and buy tickets to California Adventure to eat overpriced poorly made Mexican food in the corner of California Adventure?

I think you're right, they are going to try and do the same for SanFranTokyo.

The thing is a full on Hispanic land or Asian land would be great, but not these minimal effort overlays Disney is offering.

Oh Jeez, I hadn't even thought of that! But that's an incredibly brilliant, and yet sad, point.

Perhaps I hadn't thought of it because I have actually vacationed around Japan many times now, and I socialize with some older Japanese-Americans who still have cultural ties to Japan, and so I know what Japanese culture actually is. And so this weird and slapdash makeover of that food court didn't even register as culturally based to me. It just registered as weird and slapdash for me.

But your point is valid and scary. They're going to try to market this as a "multi-cultural" thing.

In their defense, I'm sure WDI will at least source the lanterns from Cost Plus, not Party City.

Yup. I see those commercials on YouTube all the time now.

They're cute commercials, but when you realize that they are advertising a light overlay of an existing pizza parlor and it's dining patio next to a Mad Mouse coaster and the Jumpin' Jellyfish, you have to wonder how they get away with this stuff. 🤔

Do Hispanic families really see this billboard and buy tickets to California Adventure to eat overpriced poorly made Mexican food in the corner of California Adventure?

Hispanic families are no less stupid than middle class Black or White or Asian families. Once a Hispanic family lured by the advertising actually gets into DCA and sees that Plaza De Familia is just a temporary decor package and some (rather well done) entertainment on offer at an existing pizza parlor dining patio, I'm sure many of them think "Uh... Okay. That was underwhelming, but let's go to Cars Land!" 🤣

Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco has stuck around forever without needing a movie to base it off of.

The film lead to two spin off shows. The initial Big Hero 6 television series (ended in 2021) and the spin off of that show which focuses on Baymax.

So still very much relevant in the eyes of children. We're just old. BUT what this also reveals to me is that this project is a bit of Disney+ synergy that I'm sure we'll see more of in the park. It's funny how there was no mention of the other characters from the film/ show except Baymax. Its a shame because San Fransokyo deserves a much larger plot of land and an action packed ride. The more I think about this the more it just appears to be a billboard for their new show.

Great insight, thank you. And yes, I'm old and don't know this stuff. 🤣

Ouch. This concept just keeps getting worse and worse. As if the visual from D23 wasn't already bad.

Thats what I think is so odd, they are advertising this, I even saw a commercial for it last week. It isn't even a nicely done offering, just a small overlay to one small area .

Also wanted to clarify I didn't mean to insult hispanics or any group's intelligence besides Disneys marketing department. From the ads and billboards I'd expect much more.

Disney seems to push properties regardless of success. How many decades have they spent trying to make Tron a big thing? It also had a TV show in recent years as well as getting its own ride despite the 2nd movie and show doing poorly.

It seems like even Lightyear Tommorowland was thankfully pulled last minute from what I can tell.

I don't care how big tron is, I love the ip and am glad to see it coming to usa. Riding a light cycle is a fantasy of mine since I was a kid and I'm cool with disney making it somewhat a reality for me. To me tron is classic disney
