Out with the Vikings, in with princess

Was the hackish Viking exhibit that anybody intentionally ever went back to see multiple times?

At least the terracotta soldiers in China had a small bit of authentic feel to them. The exhibit in the church is very underwhelming.

That
Sorry, the last nail in Norway's coffin came when Akershus became a 24 hour princess sorority (a move that to this day, defies all kinds of logic). I love tripping over 4 year olds in fluffy sweatshop-made Cinderella dresses on my way to Maelstrom!

I'm ambivalent about this change - Frozen is actually set in a fictional kingdom that STRONGLY resembles Norway and could be construed to be part of it in one of those fuzzy Andalusia/Monaco situations. That said, with all the effing space they have at WDW, would it have killed someone to build a new location for the girls?

That's because the food in Norway sucked. It still does, but cover it in pixie dust and you can fill tables. The other option was to shut it down because nobody wanted to go there. Disney picked the smarter option, turning it into a gold mine.

But, what was the exhibit before the vikings came there say when it opened in 1988?

.....I actually loved the food in Norway. We ate there twice (prior to the invasion of the princesses) ...and the cold buffet + the hot entrees (all you could eat) was great ..and something I miss.

One Little Spark...
I don't see why they can't blend the meet and greet with the educational exhibit. You queue up in the exhibit, and meet a princess at the end.

Problem solved.

Plus, that exhibit is closed a lot anyhow when I go in August (still peak)...so, I'm not sure it will be missed...

small correction Andersen wrote the story himself, its not because it was the most famous, its simply a danish fairy tale. Russia did do a popular animated feature for it though back in the day.
I think the confussion here is that the princess's name is Anastasia. Much like the fable of the lost Romanov.
Sleepy Beauty could arguablt be a Russian or Polish Princess as well. Interpreted based upon the ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Well, considering my son is named after a Viking, yes! We go every time. Plus, we try to seek out the last dregs of education left in EPCOT- that is what makes it unique as a park.
Besides, at the rate the Black metal guys in Norway have been burning down Stave churches, it might be the only one left in a few years.

I find it funny that some guests think they will be meeting Anastasia at WDW when she is not a Disney Princess. She's a character thru Fox Animation and former Disney animator Don Bluth..I've heard one time a lady asking where could they see her at MK. Clearly the CM said we don't have her at the parks.

When last we ate at Akershus - prior to the Princess invasion - the restaurant was full of nobody dining there. I think we had to wait for a table. Haven't been back since.

I'm glad I got to see it before it went away.

It's too bad they're taking the ruination of the Akershus restaurant (ruined by dumbing it down culturally and injecting princesses out of context), and spreading it elsewhere within the Norway pavilion.

At least "Frozen" has something to do with the north. What the heck are Belle and chicken nuggets doing there?

This makes fairly reasonable sense in the world of Characteer meets....I'm sad to see the Stave Church compromised though....it always really felt like "Old Epcot Center" to me.

So its sounding like its NOT official that the characters are moving into the stave church, but the stave church will be updated with a brand new exhibit. This is good if thats the case. I dont think they could fit both the meetngreet and a new exhibit in that space. We dont have confirmation of the exact location of the characters right?
Why is it just the two princesses though why isnt sven (is that the dudes name?) appearing also? He has a cool outfit. This is what is annoying about some of the meetngreets its princess only overkill.

.....the problem and / or dislike I have with a move like the Stave Church being turned into a meet/greet spot is two-fold. First ...I am becoming utterly frustrated with the blatant commercialization ...of EVERYTHING at WDW (in particular ...at Epcot). I view Epcot...of all the WDW parks ..in particular ...as both a theme park ...and a 'learning center'. I could easily lay money on a parent getting a teacher's approval to have their kid miss a few days of school ...if they said to the teacher that they were going on vacation and it included going to Epcot. The educational aspects of Disney World were well documented ...and Epcot really held the torch with regards to that. When they changed the boat ride in Mexico from El Río del Tiempo to the Donald Duck abomination ...they completely lost me. I didn't need to see the cartoons to realize that it was now nothing more than a 5 minute commercial. I knew that the second I exited the ride ...and basically walked into a huge rack of the cartoon character's plush toys and other merchandise. But ...If I had to think about it HARD right now ...I couldn't tell you one historical bit of info that is in the current boat ride "show" .....yet ...I can reel off a bunch of stuff from the previous version with regards to culture and history.

Second, I completely realize that Disney is a business ....but somewhere a line needs to be drawn. The Stave Church should hold some religious, historical, and educational importance. I've rarely seen character meet/greets going on in Morocco in some of the more historically (and religiously ) significant buildings. [I say that because I know that some are not lit during Illuminations due to religious importance].

There isn't anything wrong with being at a theme park ...and also adding a few wrinkles to your brain!!

Disney Parks Blog just posted this in the comments -
M&G in Puffins Roost -
"At this time, they are only expected to appear in Norway at Epcot through January 4, 2014."

New Exhibit in Stave Church -
"I checked with the Imagineering team producing the gallery, and they have confirmed that there is no end date for the new exhibit."
