I don’t think it’s getting enough credit for going against a Pixar film AND a Disney film, and beating both. The last time a non-Disney or Pixar film won was in 2012 -Rango- but it wasn’t nominated against a Disney or Pixar film. You have to go to back to 2007 for that. Twelve years.

Kudos to Sony, really.

Loved it. Certain conservatives in the Politics thread will whine but this was an absolutely well deserved win for Spike Lee. He should have won for Do The Right Think, Malcom X, and 25th Hour, but I’m happy he finally win.

(Unrelated, I took a nap today and dreamed that I had to be on the Masked Singer, and Shallow was the song I had to sing).

Did some of the film clips in the ‘In Memorium’ section look like absolute worst quality bits to anyone else? I do not remember Lawrence of Arabia or Butch Cassidy looking so grainy.

I know it had a great box office, but incredibles 2 wasn't a great showing by pixar. Very average in my eyes. I haven't seen ralph yet but spidey seemed to be the obvious choice to win. I think it's getting a lot of credit, every show, podcast, article I read, couldn't Stop singing its praises.

Is The Favourite the only movie nominated for Best Picture that hasn’t won at least one award tonight? If I remember correctly, it was nominated for a lot of awards, so this is a bit of an upset.

I know it had a great box office, but incredibles 2 wasn't a great showing by pixar. Very average in my eyes. I haven't seen ralph yet but spidey seemed to be the obvious choice to win. I think it's getting a lot of credit, every show, podcast, article I read, couldn't Stop singing its praises.

When Incredibles 2 came out though, there were a lot of positive reviews and reactions. I’m just so thrilled that Academy members didn’t go for the Pixar choice because it’s there (and I’ve read the anonymous ballots that claim that some years). They chose this fun, unique, beautiful animated film. And I hope it inspires Disney to make something similar someday.

I take that back, Olivia Colman just won for it and I actually gasped.

I really expected it go to Glenn Close at this point.

Just weird for the Academy to say that all 5 nominees would be performing their songs... and not include the one that had the most pop radio play alongside Shallow.
