Osborne Lights - anything new?

Osborne Lights Starting Time

It usually "starts" around 630 pm when it is becoming dark.

I seem to remember the Osborne lights coming on at 600pm. Getting there around 545pm should do it for you to see them start up.

The Magic Kingdom castle lights were closer to 630pm. Epcot's tree lighting (now without a ceremony) was around 600pm last year as well.

If the parks guide does not tell you the time, just ask a cast member to check for you!

Thanks Buzz2001 for the videos! They are really good and takes me back to last year and my five year old granddaughter twirling and dancing to the music!:ROFLOL: But to anyone who has never seen the display it is hard to visualize the scope from the video so you will be really impressed with the real thing. Also they have "winter" refreshments and souveniers for sale at several stands set up, like hot chocolate in special mugs. :xmas: And thanks for reminding me rlm919 about the Halloween Cat! It took us forever last year to find it!

The lights officially come on at "dusk" which is is typically around 6:00pm during most of it's run. Again there is no set time, it could be 6:05pm on one night, and 6:14pm on the very next night.

The switch is at the intersection of New York and San Fransisco between the "Public Library" and the "Chevrolet Building". To be honest, you don't need to see the switch. Not to ruin the magic, but it isn't THE actual switch, but whenever it is flipped on or off, the lights do follow suit. I would quite honestly be looking at the street and the lights. They typically count down anyways so looking AT the switch isn't needed.

If you are looking for good spots, San Fransisco street and the Town Square (near the LMA entrance) are usually less crowded.

Also, if anyone is wondering, it only "snows" during the non-dancing songs.

Finally, the lights will typically always run for at least 1 full hour (the entire song playlist loop) before the park closes. On most nights, they will also keep them on another full hour after park closing, but it isn't advertised and isn't guaranteed. So if the park closes at 7pm. The lights will typically be on from 6pm to 8pm.

I personally can't wait for this to start up again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVh0_mFlNwg

Definitely, there is nothing like being there in person. It is truly unbelievable but so is everything Disney does. We got there about 45 mins early and it filled up fast. If you want a good spot, don't wait until 15 mins prior to start.

For those that don't know the story behind the Halloween Cat at the Osborne Lights:

Guests who view the lights can look for some interesting things within the display. For instance, back in 1995 when the lights were unpacked a Halloween cat display was discovered. It somehow got thrown in with the Christmas lights but it didn't matter. It was still used and every year this cat is placed in a different spot -- can you find it? Also, there are hidden Mickeys embedded into these 5 million plus lights. How many? Well, officially we never really hear the exact number, but you can be sure to find somewhere between 25 and 35 hidden Mickeys and perhaps more.

So true! We looked everywhere for that darned cat last year and didn't find out where he was until we got back! LOL I won't tell for fear they might put him in the same spot this year because you never know! And I'm assuming the cat is a "him" - it could be a "her" LOL We did find some hidden mickeys. DD is great at finding them but because so much else is going on, she only found about 10

No worries! The cat is always somewhere different. Some years he's harder to find then others. :D

couldn't find the cat to save our lives last year so I relented and asked a cast member working a small vending stand if he knew where it was.... he pointed DIRECTLY above us and said "you mean this one?"

so close......

This is my first year seeing the lights as well, and I am very excited about it. Thanks for all of the info (especially about the beer). :)
Will I have some time to stroll around and look at the lights before the park closes? Does is get really crowded in that area the whole time the lights are on? (Dec 9-12)
How long is the music loop?

It will be really crowded but it tends to thin as the night wears on. The music loop is actually fairly long if I remember correctly....around 30 minutes or so. Take your time and look at all the little details. Look in every window and around every corner because you never know what little surprise will be there.
