Weren't they developing shows using drones? Too high tech for me
And all it will take is ONE broadband jammer to bring that show to a 'crashing' halt.

No, they primarily buy electricity from Duke/Progress Energy, At least I thought they did.
That tiny electric plant behind MK and the Solar Plant cant service all of property.
This is the first time that I have felt really wealthy. I get my power from Duke/Progress Energy too? Imagine that! No, they primarily buy electricity from Duke/Progress Energy, At least I thought they did.

More of a backup in the event of a huge power loss. Not enough for business as usual, but, enough for lighting and emergency needs.Onsite plant is 55 mW and peak demand is 196 mW. Plant burns gas with an oil backup.

I don't think he has replied when the point was made the lights were not returned to Arkansas. You're profile pic pretty much sums up the answer.
I completely understand the installation part. It takes me at least 2 weeks to set up my display and get everything how i like it. In terms of electricity costs I am sure it doesn't cost too much. Yes I know its 1+ million lights but with LEDs the costs are cut a good amount and Disney is already paying large electricity bills.
You guys have made me want to see pics of your light displays now! I do a few, I'm not very electrically literate but I love a good display! I don't know if it's appropriate in this thread but if so show us!I know it pales in comparison, but my family has 20,000+ LED lights that blink to music for Christmas and our electricity only goes up like about $10.
Some people just refuse to accept the demise of the Osborne Lights. To sum up, Horizons is not coming back and neither is the Dreamfinder or the Adventurers Club nor the Osborne Lights. But rest assured that Disney will provide us with new and better attractions rather than turning the place into a museum for theme park experts.
LED lights aren't that expensive when it comes to electricity. And doesn't Disney generate their own electricity?

I just don't understand your issue with putting Osburne lights in an area that nothing was going on rest of the year except for a few carts and a store. It's not about being creative. It's was an amazing show( and they aren't everywhere) that was tradition for many families that visited WDW during holiday season. Because that particular holiday season has always been ruled by tradition. It doesn't lend it's self to change things up every year. And you last sentence is a joke right?
Well I'd like to think of it as more of a show/light performance than just some pretty lights, and to that end they were some pretty spectacular lights nevertheless. I don't see how someone can say that Disney was wasting time, regardless of the attraction/show, if it drew thousands of people into the parks as the Osborne Lights did. Maybe they should get rid of fireworks too, since they are merely "pretty lights" in the sky.
Generating electricity costs money. Doesn't matter who owns the generator.
That's great for you, but
electricty rates are not the same across the country and that bill might be much higher in other areas
I've explained myself quite thoroughly. I'm sorry you cannot understand.
My last sentence is certainly not a joke. Is your entire post a joke?
You misunderstand what I wrote. I did not call the lights a waste of time.
@Variable In instances like these, multi-quote is your friend.
Do let us know when they replace Horizons or Adventurers or Imagination One with something better. But rest assured that Disney will provide us with new and better attractions rather than turning the place into a museum for theme park experts.
D-Zone at Epcot made up for everything It will be quite some time before we see quality theming and immersiveness like that again! Im still trying to figure out how the Imagineers pulled that one off. Magical!Do let us know when they replace Horizons or Adventurers or Imagination One with something better.
Because they haven't yet. Thanks.
That's missing the point. In the end:
If all it takes is big displays of pretty lights to wow us, Disney has been wasting a lot of time.
That's missing the point.
This is different from other Disney attractions. This is about something that, in our culture, is intimately tied to the holiday being celebrated. Christmas lights go with Christmas. It's not just that they're liked, it's that they are expected as part of the holiday celebration. It's not about the lights being a substitute for a new, creative attraction. It's about them being part of the place being decorated for Christmas.
If in the middle of July they hung a bunch of colored lights up in the Magic Kingdom and called it a new attraction, would I be wowed? No, of course not. But if I go to Disney in the middle of December and they don't have Christmas lights up, would I be disappointed? Yes, absolutely.
