Orlando shootings and the parks

Andrew C

You know what's funny?
I'd cut a little slack on today as this was only hours after it happened. It would have been very hard to change their staffing but easy to encourage a more in depth bag check.

Oh. I do cut them slack for today. But I'm just not sure adjusting staffing levels moving forward is going to be enough with the current processes they have in place.

If it means we are safe extra security and longer lines is acceptable! No complaints from me. Unfortunately nothing can keep us safe these days as those that want to do stupid things in the name of what ever they are brainwashed by will continue to happen and find new ways to hurt innocent people. As they don't have the power to do anything else but hurt innocent human beings. Makes a lot of sense right? Idiots

My thoughts after this incident...first let me be clear that I have friends who have been to this bar before but luckily they were not there last night, but I can't imagine what they're feeling right now.

Going beyond the terrible situation itself, as far as it affects other things in general, if WDW's attendance is down this summer....they could use this as their "reason".

Another thing I want to point out is....that place was targeted by ONE individual and it was targeted precisely because it was a place where a lot of gay people to gather and have fun that was publicly known and respected.

The fact of the matter is that shows what kind of open community Orlando is in general, even though one person with ideological issues tried to destroy that, they failed.

I think nationally the LGBT community will come out stronger from this and people who were trying to marginalize them might step back and realize this kind of thing is unacceptable.

We were there last week. They need to put a stop to letting people with strollers through the "no bag" inspection line. We saw this at all Parks. The people with strollers need to have a better inspection like when they go through the line. We noticed they would look in the compartments of the stroller when they went through the bag check line-nothing if they went through the no bag line.

I dont think the 2 Orlando shooting incidents will decrease FL tourism or affect Disney goers. People never think something like this will happen to them, so they will feel confident and continue their trips. Bag checks and the presence of security makes guests feel safe so they will not stay away. They may be more alert or suspicious of others in line next to them for a while until time passes and the incidents are forgotten. Disney makes people feel safe and relaxed. They communicate that its the outside world theyve left behind thats dangerous. Disney will continue doing well until an incident happens on property ... then guests will rethink trips.
My family is supposed to fly down June 21st and we are currently discussing if we want to move the trip to a different date. Many people in our party already have anxiety about flying and large crowds so this incident is really making us consider moving our trip til the end of summer, for our own peace of mind.

You will be fine, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. Just be vigilant. Enjoy your trip.

Yup, it's a heck of a lot of people congregating in one area on the wrong side of those metal detectors and bag check (not that I have a ton of faith in that process anyway)

Its deterrence. Its more for people to watch you while you're in line in addition to security. They're looking for that squirrelly person that starts wigging out while waiting for a security line.... amongst other things.

What makes you think this keeps people safe? If anything, the pre-security crowds are a much easier target.

If anyone wanted to do a "mass shooting" at WDW parks, sadly it would be quite easy even before the bag check lines and metal detectors, as the lines for waiting for bag checks have gotten longer ( they are much more vigilant... returned on 6/8).:(

That's the whole problem....unless they did massive inspections of people before they enter the 44 sq mi. or whatever size property, anything they do is not going to prevent this from happening.

Exactly what I was thinking. No need to be in the park with a mass of people right there.

I had actually been thinking about that since my first trip to Disneyland withe the metal detectors. Normally when I've gone the lines were almost non-existent so I didn't think much about it. But my last trip had the line reach the bus drop-off and I thought to myself how much easier it would be to attack the peple waiting in line. . . no where to go, no where to hide or run to.

the insidious aspect of terror or random killings is the complete unpredictability of it all
the next one will happen and catch whomever or wherever off guard.

these need to stop

ETA. i know i am simplifying this but its my process
I don't think you're simplifying anything. To begin to understand what motivates these monsters is obviously complicated but their targets are apparently very simple. Mass groups of people with nowhere to run and no warning. Its a deadly formula and in my opinion is much more frightening than walking into a known disaster.

Honestly the scariest thing to me is explosives. If someone is shooting a gun, unless there are multiple shooters, there is only one direction of the danger and putting something between you and the attacker is a way to survive. An explosion doesn't aim.
