News Oogie Boogie Bash 2023

I've been watching this ticket sale saga go down as a bystander and it's embarassing for Disney and frustrating for guests how badly this turned out. I want to go to Oogie Boogie Bash someday but as a vacationer if I didn't get tickets I would probably cancel the trip. There has got to be a better way to handle ticket sales.
Well, I guess it turned out well for Disney since they sold out every single ticket so fast, but yep, really disappointing for a lot of us.

...

*glares at local who bought five tickets for themselves while I, a vacationer, got none.*

Sadly, I think it's worse than simply locals. Re-sellers are currently trying to sell these tickets on eBay and other sites for thousands of dollars.

It's a good thing Haunted Mansion Holiday is the only thing I really care about when it comes to this time of year in the parks.

I mean, I guess but this entire situation is still embarassing for them in terms of execution. I don't have plans to go to Disneyland any time soon but if I was and couldn't get tickets, I would be very upset.

I saw some stats on Twitter. Basically OBB is is getting substantially more expensive each year, but sells out much faster.

OBB ticket price increased on average by 5.6% over last year
OBB ticket price increased on average by 25.7% since the event started in 2019
Cheapest ticket in 2019 $110
Cheapest ticket in 2023 $134
Most expensive ticket in 2019 $145
Most expensive ticket in 2023 $189

Number of days to sell out the event:
2019: 140
2021: 35
2022: 4
2023: 1

I went to the Halloween party at Disneyland 2 or 3 times and never had a problem getting tickets.

Last year was the first time I went to Oogie Boogie at DCA and I had no problem getting tickets. However the event did sell out after four days of availability, which is pretty fast, but I put that down to pent up demand after Covid.

This year I was lucky and got tickets on the 1st release day. Disney fixed their tech ineptitude and started selling again. This time the event sells out in a day.

I mean, it's a fun event but it's not terribly different from when it was in Disneyland, and it's not so outstanding that it should create this buying frenzy. It's weird how OBB has become this can't miss, hard to get in event.

For myself, the real point of this trip is Scary Farm's 50th-which I was able to easily get a season pass for- and to a lesser extent HHN. I confess I was never strictly speaking *super* ride or die for OBB, but I did want to experience it. I even had three different dates that would have worked (thank you, Fall Break!). Alas, still missed out, oh well. I'll definitely spend the ticket price or more of OBB anyway, it'll just now go to Disney's competitors instead.

I've never been to Oogie Boogie Bash before and have seen people hype it up to be way better than MNNSHP, so that's why I want to experience it. Plus I've seen that Goofy and Donald in their Kingdom Hearts outfits meet at the party and I am a massive Kingdom Hearts fan. I would feel super jealous if I had planned a trip with flights, hotels, etc. and couldn't get a ticket to the event. I'm just disasspointed in Disney in terms of how badly the ticket sales went.

I'll be at HHN this September (Orlando, not Hollywood) and it's my first time so if I enjoy it I may go to Hollywood's someday too.

Kinda wild to stick it out twice for hours and get *nothing*. Clearly they either need to dramatically hike process and/or dramatically expand the number of nights it's offered.

HHN Orlando is a fantastic event in conversation for best Halloween event in the country, you'll have a blast! HHN Hollywood isn't at quite at that level but Knott's is!

Does anyone know if it’s going to be the same kind of situation with Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Hollywood? Early sell outs, etc.

Scalpers found out there is quite the lucrative business in reselling these in 2019. That’s why they sell out so fast now look at ebay….

It took me 3 1/2 hours to get through the queue on the pre-sale day and by the time I got in, the date I wanted was sold out, so I had to settle for one I didn't want just to make sure I locked in a ticket. I knew the regular sales day would be a mess if the pre-sales took that long, so I didn't want to risk waiting and trying for my preferred date during the regular sales.

Pricing perspective: the cheapest OBB ticket now costs more than one full month's payment of the highest Magic Key.

I can't believe this thing sold out so fast. Many years ago, I got tickets for the Walt Disney World party two days beforehand, and that was when tickets were well below $100. Does anyone know if they ever release new blocks of tickets closer to the event, or is it just a hard total sell out?
I've heard anecdotally that if you stay on property the day of a party date, if you go down early to front desk or concierge they usually have a small block of tickets reserved for resort guests. Not guaranteed though, I'm afraid.

OBB's success is driven by how locals-focused Disneyland is combined with how social media-ready the event is.

They don't even have to do much to drum up a whole lot of attention to the event; they just need to create a handful of new costumes/set decor for new villains and social media will take care of the rest (TikTok was flooded with videos of Zombie Cap the first year after the pandemic, and then Ernesto last year).

I doubt it, but if you want to make absolutely sure, their HHN tickets are available now to purchase (and have been for the past several weeks).

Yeah, this whole situation showed that this event may be underpriced based on how quick the tickets sold out. I would be planning an early September trip and tickets aren't that bad for that time.

Thanks! I can't wait!!
