gak285013LARGE.jpg

TWith Disney's Animal Kingdom set to open next year, imagineers are getting concerned about this highly ambitious fantastical Beastly Kingdomme they promised as an expansion. That is where they brought you imagineers in to help.

-Challenge-
Design a new land to replace Beastly Kingdomme for the opening of Animal Kingdom

Bonus
-Post a 'Proposal' in the
Dream Wedding thread on any daily topic!

-Rules-

You may use between 1 and 3 sentences and up to 1 image. The deadline is Sunday December 12th at 9:00 PM EST. Look for feedback and results no later than 10:00 PM EST that night, along with the next prompt.

-Tips-
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please!

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

Good luck everyone! If you have questions, please feel free to ask! Enjoy!

After the lousy success of planning a land themed to mythological creatures, Disney imagineers decided to go simpler and replace it with a land themed to the wilderness of North America, with inspiration from the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the continent. Some animals you can expect to find include eagles, otters, beavers, puffins, mountain lions, and more. There is also a show themed to Brother Bear as well as a table service restaurant themed to a lodge.

The Four Corners
IMG_E0086.JPG

In keeping with Animal Kingdom’s mission to inspire care for the natural world, the land of “Four Corners” takes guests to places in the world where most people cannot go. The Four Corners are the Amazon RainForest (Peter Pan-style suspended dark ride with AAs), Antarctica (Omnimover with real penguin exhibit), Desert (jeep ride with AAs), and the Deep Ocean (Pirates-style boat ride). The center of the land is “Four Corners Plaza” based off the Four Corners monument in the U.S. where guests can take pictures with statues (and costume characters) of animals from the Four Corners and have their shopping and dining desires satisfied.

Cross over a thatched wooden bridge and on the other side will be the little, colorful village of Riqueza Verde set in the Mata Atlantica. The village itself is where all the shops and restaurants are found, with an exhibit on smaller animals (arthropods, mammals, reptiles and amphibians) set up in an old coffee mill south of the village and in the western portion of the land lies the nature trail Cume Paraíso, where animals such as tapirs, jaguars, sloths, Giant otters, anacondas, capybaras, Marsh deer, maned wolves and rheas; just to name a few; can be found in the rainforest, waterways, and grasslands. Non-animal attractions here would be a Dumbo style carousel themed to the continent’s exotic butterflies called Carousel of Colors, a family suspended coaster themed to exotic, native birds such as macaws, toucans, and quetzals called Flight of Fancy; named for the indoor portions and the birds themselves are pulled right out of folk art, a children's splash station among ruins with aquatic animal motifs, and Rio Espiritual; a boat ride (comparable to that of Disneyland’s POTC) down the Rio Espiritual of the same name, exploring the mythological and spiritual side of South America.

THE NORTHERN WILDERNESS
159109_7496408b.jpg
A carefully designed, mostly indoor environment that is an amalgamation of northern, frigid climates like Canada, Alaska, and Iceland, which houses a menagerie of animals such as reindeer, bears, arctic foxes, a puffin sanctuary, and a shared lagoon home to both seals and walruses (though separated if necessary). Attractions include "The Mighty Glacier", a Circle-Vision simulated attraction through the northern reaches of the world, exploring the life of a glacier and the local ecosystem, and a replica of the "Grizzly River Run", which would be re-themed to become a Brother Bear attraction in 2004.

Bonus: The Sorcerer's Appetizers

This is a pretty interesting concept as sealife is something touched on in Epcot but I think could be expanded upon much more in Animal Kingdom, regardless of SeaWorld down the road. Nice job!

I like the connection with Brother Bear and the pacific northwest while explored in the Wilderness Lodge I think could be an interesting counterpart to the other various continents in Animal Kingdom

Australia

Wildlife-in-Sydney.jpg

Take a trip to a land down under, in this area of Animal Kingdom where guests can learn about the unique creatures that call Australia home, or hop on a dark ride inspired by Aboriginal art that brings guests on a fantastical journey into the Outback.

Bonus: Mission: Space - Lost to the Stars
A classic down under concept - this would be one that could have such a wide range of animals that it would be so intriguing to see

Wow this one was such an outside concept - I love it. And the artwork as well. Four Corners reminds me of the 1964 World's Fair with the Four Winds structure as well, and all of these eclectic environments would be such a thrill to see on display

This provides a rich backstory to South America and one that would fit well in the spirit of Animal Kingdom - I would like to see this small down in the description along the DAK waterfront I think that would be so cool to visualize.

I like how this focused on being indoors as that is something especially in the early stages of Animal Kingdom that the park lacked. It also enables the environment to be climate controlled which could set the mood for the Wilderness environment very well.

Thank you everyone for the proposals! With that said, as with many of these One Sentence Comps, the margin between submissions is always so thin as there were many great proposals, but here were some favorites!

*Note everyone is getting a medal this round! Again! Again!
