Practice Prompt Critiques:
@TwilightZone – Mary Poppins’ Magical Balloon Day
What fun! This sounds like it would be a rail-suspended dark ride, which is a natural fit for Mary Poppins. Neat choice to lean into the balloon imagery from the film’s ending sequence as our way to go through scenes from Mary Poppins Returns.
@Ludpat Mike – Jolly Holiday Race
Interesting. The “Jolly Holiday” sequence is a favorite for armchair imagineers to pull from for a Mary Poppins attraction, but the idea of leading it into a ride through actual English countryside would add a real-world touch to connect it with the feel of World Showcase. It offers a neat tweak that roots it further into the Pavilion.
@Brer Panther – Mary Poppins’ Practically Perfect Carousel
Delightful! A carousel might seem small, but those carousel horses are a well-remembered piece of the original film and the set-up would add a nice touch of whimsy to the surrounding pavilion.
@Pufflefan – The Wacky World of Mary Poppins Diner
A Mary Poppins restaurant could offer some interesting possibilities, especially as a more family-friendly restaurant in the UK Pavilion. I would have liked to have had some idea of specific food items, but you certainly paint a picture of the menu being a bit off-kilter. Just a small note: capitalizing every word made the pitch a little hard to read.
@tcool123 – Mary Poppins’ Marvelous Mystical Rather Shipsensational Tub Boats
I was wondering if anyone might lean into the “Can You Imagine That” sequence from Mary Poppins Returns, and this takes an interesting approach with it. A scenic boat ride through some of the more colorful scenes from both films would take good advantage of showcasing the magic from them.
@TheSquirrel – London
A Mary Poppins-based subland would make for a nice little expansion to the UK Pavilion. I would have liked to have had more of an idea of what the sub-land might be like, but making a whip ride centered around the Penguins is an inspired idea.
@Evilgidgit – Mary Poppins’ Jolly Gardens
Now this is fun! The choice of an enchanted garden setting paired up with those simpler attractions give the sub-land the vibe of a charmingly whimsical funfair, which is fitting for the UK Pavilion.
@NateD1226 – Off We Go: A Mary Poppins Adventure
Venturing into new territory, eh? Using the “Can You Imagine That” sequence to branch out into new locales and imagery could make for a ride that shines on its own without having to rely on the movies, if it can capture that same magic of Mary Poppins. Some of those names like the Candy Floss Cavern certainly help to paint an imaginative picture.
@Pi on my Cake – The Jolly Holiday in the Park Chalk Drawings
Oh, wow! This is a really inspired idea. Having these animated chalk drawings really makes for a fun way of giving some flavor to the more grounded surroundings. Like Mary Poppins, it’s a bit of magic shaking up an ordinary world.
@DisneyManOne – Step in Time
The songs from Mary Poppins are such a classic part of their popularity and this would be a great way to show them off! Having these Sweeps and Leeries performing on the streets of the UK Pavilion would offer some fun atmosphere as the evening rolls in.
Excellent work this round, folks! Though there were no points for this practice round, it's nice to see you all are hitting the ground running!
