Wreck It Ralph: Grid Express

Replacing Tomorrowland Speedway, this indoor roller coaster like Tacos Through Time On planet coaster will take guests through a variety of video games encased in a building looking like Game Central Station (Disguised as a cliff edge with a waterfall on the Fantasyland Side).

Round Two: Wreck-It Ralph

wreckitralphposter.jpg

Modern Disney has found a new stride, and some of their recent films have begun to turn up in the parks. Frozen has a number of shows and a flume ride, while Tangled is set to have a boat ride at DisneySea. However, there is one movie that is being a bit neglected: Wreck-It Ralph. A shame, really, considering how the film delivers on a fun cast of characters, a good story, and fun visuals with its video game setting. So, let’s remedy this, shall we?

Let’s figure out something good for this overlooked film in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. The connection might be looser, but a world within video games is a bit of a sci-fi idea. Plus, it’ll have some game-related company when Tron Lightcycle Run opens up.

-Prompt-
Pitch a method of implementing Wreck-It Ralph at Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. It can be an attraction, a restaurant, whatever you wish.

-Rules-
Use only a single sentence to describe your idea. You may also use one image if you wish. The deadline is Thursday, December 17th, at 11:59:59 PM EST.

-Tips-
KISS – Keep is simple, silly! With only one sentence, you can’t get too detailed. Think of this as an elevator pitch.

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it realistic?
Does it fit visually/thematically?
Pi Presents: The Pixel Path

Since Tron is going along my favorite pathway in the park and ruining that nice quiet spot (though obviously the coaster will be worth it I'm sure, but still salty), Disney is going to take the opportunity to plus the path by replacing it with colorful tiles that make different abstract patterns meant to resemble 8-Bit pixel art (tying into the video game theme of Tron) including pixelated cameos of Wreck-It-Ralph characters.

Hero's Doodie

Enter Tomorrowland's first themed restroom, replacing the former Skyway restrooms, guests will be able to enter the world of Hero's Doodie and partake in their own doodie as Sergeant Calhoun (played by Jane Lynch of course) screams at you as you poop or pee in the stalls.

Are we allowed to use Ralph Breaks the Internet as well or only the first movie?

The Peoplemover:
Under New Management

1608263276726.png

Ralph has become the new manager of the TTA Peoplemover and narrates your tour around the city of Tomorrow before Vanelope takes over and instead brings riders to Sugar Rush (replacing the Progress City tunnel), into outer-space (Space Mountain), and finally, the Internet (replacing the Buzz Lightyear Tunnel), using projections and lighting to morph the former boring tunnel into a digital realm.

Round Two Critiques:

@TwilightZone – Litwak’s Arcade
Nice! I can appreciate a good video arcade and making one based on the arcade from Wreck-It Ralph would help give it more a draw for guests, along with having some original games they can’t play anywhere else.

@Solaris Knight – Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats
Oh, interesting! Taking something from one of the Disney cruise ships is a surprise, but Vanellope’s does offer a menu of treats that could really give Tomorrowland a restaurant of its own to stand out. Plus, King Candy would make for a fun living character.

@DisneyManOne – Wreck-It Ralph: Virus Alert!
I know simulators can be a sore spot for some, but I like a good simulator and this is a property where I can see one working. Jumping through the game worlds would be a natural fit for this type of attraction and offer a good thrill for guests. Simulators are a little under-utilized at Disney, and this works.

@Ludpat Mike – Wreck-It Ralph: Shoot ‘n Rush
Video games are known for their interactivity, so it’s nice to see an attraction that would take advantage of that. The candy-themed scenery would offer some great visuals, and a mix of screens and practical effects offers neat possibilities. Overall, a great idea for an improvement over Space Ranger Spin.

@Evilgidgit – Game Central Station
Now, this is a fun idea! Each of the games from the film get a chance to shine, complete with creating a thematic link to the Tron attraction. To be honest, Tomorrowland is kind of a muddled mess theme-wise, so this would give at least some identity to the land, even just as a sub-land.

@Brer Panther – Sugar Rush Speedway
I’m not a fan of Tomorrowland Speedway, but this would make for such a huge improvement. The Sugar Rush races are well-remembered sequences from the film, and this capitalizes on them along with an interactive component in the queue and something more visually interesting to see versus the dull nothingness of the current Speedway. Good thinking.

@NateD1226 – Kart Bakery
What fun! The “Making a Kart” scene might be one of the smaller moments from the movie, but it is a charming sequence that makes for some solid inspiration here. The menu sounds fun as well. The “build-your-own kart” gingerbread box set is a neat idea, but I feel like there could be a customizable food option in the restaurant as well to further drawn from the scene.

@spacemt354 – Ralph Wrecks the Information Center
Interesting idea. This would offer a more engaging approach for learning about the Disney vacation club than just getting some brochures. Plus, this digital space takes advantage of the Tomorrowland setting for a space that feels more futuristic.

@TheSquirrel – Wreck-It Ralph: Grid Express
Another short and concise pitch. An indoor coaster passing through these games would make for a solid thrill, even as that would bring Tomorrowland’s coaster count up to three. I will say, though, that I appreciate you adding the cliffs on the Fantasyland side to help make a smoother transition between lands.

@Pi on my Cake – Pi Presents: The Pixel Path
I think I see a trend forming. In any case, this is a neat idea. Pixel art can be very lovely, and it would make for a nice aesthetic on a walking path. It’s a small and simple idea, which can fit around the Tron area.

@b-wolf95 – Game Central VR Station
Wow. This is a heck of an idea. It steps up with some modern tech to offer a new immersive experience, even if the idea of an upcharge might scare off some guests. That said, the potential with these VR experiences along with the partnership of a serious VR firm shine a light on something really fresh in Tomorrowland. Plus, you’ve actually offered something as a replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape!, so kudos there.

@tcool123 – Hero’s Doodie
Okay, this is a fun little gag. If there’s anything that could get someone to finish their business quickly, it’s Jane Lynch screaming at you to hustle.

@Disneylover152 – The Peoplemover: Under New Management
Oh, this is a neat idea. Ralph and Vanellope are engaging characters, and they could offer some fun new personality to the Peoplemover. It’s an attraction that some guests might pass over, so this could draw some foot traffic towards something a bit neglected.

@pix – Sugar Rush Kart Bakery
Another take on the “Making a Kart” scene, but this one stands out a little more to me. Though it’s a little light on the menu compared to the other, the idea of making a custom kart in-store as either a snack or toy makes a fun little interactive experience for guests. Nice thinking.

Honorable Mention:
@Evilgidgit – Game Central Station
Honorable mention is a place to recognize striking pitches that don’t quite make the prompt’s mark, and this sub-land expansion for Tomorrowland would help to give a more specific personality to the land as a whole.

Bronze Medal (1 Point):
@pix – Sugar Rush Kart Bakery
Though the other Kart Bakery pitch detailed particular food items, getting to make a kart in-store along with enjoying the other sweet treats gives a fun link to a specific scene along with making a unique eatery.

Silver Medal (1 Point): @b-wolf95 – Game Central VR Station
You really offered one heck of an idea here, taking out a mistaken attraction and placing in a slick new experience. Though it is an upcharge experience (which I totally get for something like this), it could make for a solid jolt in Tomorrowland.

Gold Medal (2 Points):
@Ludpat Mike – Wreck-It Ralph: Shoot ‘n Rush
A shooter dark ride really is a great fit for Wreck-It Ralph thanks to the video game connection, and the results can make for a livelier revamp of Space Ranger Spin. Personally, Space Ranger Spin suffers in my opinion from just feeling like a generic toyland rather than something more sci-fi-esque, whereas entering a video game world and blasting some Cy-Bugs feels more theme-appropriate to this land.

Round Three: The Great Mouse Detective

great_mouse_detective.png

Okay, this one is a personal choice from me. The Great Mouse Detective is a sheer delight, offering a fun mouse-inspired spin on Sherlock Holmes, with fun adventure, delightful music, and a thoroughly scene-stealing villain in the form of Professor Ratigan. It’s definitely an overlooked film from Disney’s Bronze Age.

We may have swung by there for the practice prompt, but let’s go back to the United Kingdom Pavilion at Epcot. Though we already discussed ideas for there earlier in that practice prompt, The Great Mouse Detective is one of the Disney films that would most fit in the pavilion thanks to its Victorian setting.

-Prompt-
Pitch a method of implementing The Great Mouse Detective at the United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot. It can be an attraction, a restaurant, whatever you wish.

Baker Street Mysteries

tumblr_mr09e8hG3G1r49966o3_500.gif

Join Basil and his friends as they solve three distinct mysteries throughout the United Kingdom pavilion in a quest to figure what great criminal mind is causing all of this mischief; this experience will be accessible via the Play Disney Parks app and will see in park effects (like Pirates Adventure at the Magic Kingdom) being activated by guests as they go along solving mysteries.

Ratigan's Criminal Spin

1608309830699.png

Ratigan's Criminal Spin will take guests on an outdoor teacup spinning ride where they will spin around a fountain of wine with a Ratigan AA on top while "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" plays on speakers. Be careful as Ratigan's fountain of wine (colored water) might spray guests while they're spinning!

The Great Mouse Detective: The Mouse-ical
View attachment 519493
A low-budget (Iger's favorite phrase) addition to the United Kingdom pavilion, this new theatrical show adapts the beloved 1980s animated film to the stage with a variety of costumes, puppets, and special effects.

That was all I could think of.
