Biggest downside of where I live. Don’t believe me? Let’s have a little story:
Last night they were saying there’d be 5-10 centimetres (2-4 inches) of snow overnight. Usually after first (major) snow, the roads are chaos. Normally I take the bus in the morning and leave 1 1/2 hours before my class starts. Today I left 2 hours and I thought that’d be fine.
(It’s important to note that I take three different busses to get to school: the bus to get me out of my neighbourhood, the “express” bus to then get me downtown, and the bus to go from downtown to my university - all of this takes about 1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes)
To make my 10 AM class, I planned to leave at 8.
When I woke up, we had a
foot of snow with more falling. It’s safe to say all the neighbourhood busses were very delayed so my dad drove me to the bus loop to wait for the express bus - got there at 8:05. The express bus is supposed to be every five minutes. Didn’t see the first bus until 8:35... Filled up on the very FIRST stop... Go around the corner, and got stuck... Everyone was kicked off the bus and he got unstuck AND THEN TRIED TO LEAVE WITHOUT US!
After getting stuck a few more times and the bus’ engine dying a few times, the driver finally gave up and kicked us off 5 blocks away from the next bus stop (still not downtown) IN THE SNOW.
We all get over there, and it takes another 30 minutes for the next bus to come
Finally, after all is said and done, I get downtown at 11:15 AM. Yes. The express bus took almost 3 hours...
I said “forget it” and paid the $20 to take a taxi from downtown to school (as none of the school buses were showing up) and got to school just before 12... Missed 1 full class and part of another class because it took me 4 hours to get to school. Now that I am home, I am going to warm up a bit and then post some pictures of just how much snow we have gotten so far....
