On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

I guess it depends on where you live. Half the houses in my city aren't in foreclosure.

It is pretty obvious that things are improving with the virus as the doom and gloomers are now shifting to the economy. In a stock market that just had its best August since 1984. Disney stock is at the same level it was last year. Not even going to mention certain companies that are doing record high business. Alas I remember when some posters were predicting people would be dying in the streets since the hospitals would be overrun in Arizona.

Yes the economy is not the best but it is also not quite a disaster as some are claiming.

If it's not a disaster, then the earth must be indeed flat.

Nobody made that prediction. What many did, in fact, claim was that hospitals would be forced to start making painful triage of resources if mitigation efforts were not made.

I do remember another poster who was claiming that each day's new case load in Florida was "good news" somehow, even when it was steadily climbing towards 10K.

Tell that to 18000 people laid off at MGM or the thousands still on furlough by Disney that aren't coming back anytime soon. If that's not a disaster I don't know what is
All I said were things are not dire in my state. I can’t speak for every state in the union. Don’t take things out of context.

Florida is dependent on tourism. People like you have been rooting on these travel bans and shutdowns and now you feel sorry for the people being laid off. You can’t have it both ways.

That's odd because a member of the forum who is a nurse in Arizona didn't think much of covid a few months ago with their hospital hardly seeing any cases. Oh, how times have changed...

It might just be your specific exposure to this downtick in the economy is greater now then it was in 2008.
You should try general exposure to the USA population and you will be closer to the mark but then there will always be non believers and ones in denial in every crowd.

I think my definition of a disaster is a lot different then yours.
When you see your social services in the county you live in become more streamlined as or eliminated because the people and businesses impacted by the nationwide pandemic are no longer paying property taxes or taxes in general then maybe it may trigger a red flag. In Central FL, try calling and speaking with a live person on the phone in regards to social services in a timely manner.

Well, we're back to just handful of cases. I was wrong I didn't think we get a surge in the Summer, but we did and it's over. How many times have you been wrong?

Again never have said more positive test results were or is good news, no matter how many times you and others claim.

Pretty close to a prediction if you ask me.

"making it sound like people are being left to die" - poster says - "now this might be very soon the case "

I wouldn't know I've never needed to call social services. I'll be heading to Orange county, California this week. I'm sure that will paint a very different picture. If I put my house on the market today I'd probably have 20 offers by the end of the week and most of them would be Californians.

Guess you haven't been looking at the news recently. Hospitalization in AZ never exceeded any capacity and now are the lowest since it all began.

In Vermont, any waterfront property that has come on the market recently gets bought sight-unseen. Non-waterfront properties have been going pretty quickly too. Per the realtor who sold me my house, its mostly people fleeing the NYC metropolitan area.

Poor pivot but be safe and mask up!
I'm glad you're researching my posts from April....a lot of time on your hands? Anyway sitting in an empty hospital back in April I never thought we'd get a surge in the Summer when most viruses die out, but I was wrong we did. What I was right about was how well we handled it. Amazing job by everyone. We're back to an empty hospital. My first day back after vacation my shift was cancelled. They are calling off nurses daily which is how it should be in August in Arizona. We're down to one Covid floor that is only half full. Anywhere, but on these boards that would be a good thing.
