Each was great for its time. That's the whole thing. I do think Kongfrontation could certainly still be around today since it was pretty timeless and massively impressive. However, it was probably way too expensive for them to keep operating. They couldn't even keep the Kongs running like in the early days. So I guess we had to say goodbye to the old ape and accept it.
There are some misfires. Alfred Hitchcock to Shrek. Most people are probably familiar with filmmaking techniques these days and many displayed in the Hitchcock show are pretty dated. The Psycho soundstage and all that was classic stuff, but you can only see that so many times. That said, Shrek was not a worthy successor, in my opinion.
Wild West was an okay show, but those types of stunt shows have become dated. They were all the rage in the 90s. That space should be utilized for something new.
Twister's time is up. Time for something new.
The Simpsons was sure a huge property to replace BTTF. It's not that the ride isn't any good, but it is basically a carbon copy of the entire BTTF experience, only replacing with Simpsons. Same queue, rooms and ride, just different video. That could maybe have been something better, but I realize they had a specifically-purposed building to work with. I'll give it a pass.
Funtastic World for whatever is currently popular seems to work for that space.
Rip Ride Rockit was a radical idea for the park. It intruded on the themed areas up front, but it also placed a big roller coaster in the park and didn't replace anything, really. It's okay if you don't get the bumpy vehicle.
Many people lament the destruction of Jaws. I liked that ride, but just imagine the greatness they can replace it with.
