Which is the best for it's time?

King Kong vs. The Mummy
Hanna Barbera vs. Despicable Me
Jaws vs. Gringotts Bank + Hogwarts Express
Back to the Future vs. The Simpsons
Studio Tour vs. Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket
(And Transformers but nothing else to compare)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE OLD USF! But, the future holds some great times and excitements. I will say , as a local and a regular, I MISS THE OLD CLASSICS, However it's great USF gets some love like IOA has because it was dying for a while. I am exicted and finally will be able to spend more than 4 hours in USF!!

Except for Back to the Future, I like new USF better. They put a lot of time and effort into creating unique, exciting new attractions that are unmatched by other theme parks. I can't wait for Gringotts, Transformers and Hogwarts Express!

My love for old USF is like the love a lot of folks have for old EPCOT Center (including myself). There was a period when I was a kid where all I ever wanted to do was go to USF because I got to "ride the movies" I loved so dearly (especially BTTF). The difference is that USF is replacing the old stuff with great stuff, while at EPCOT Center everything was mostly replaced with garbage. :p So it's hard for me to really decide which was best, but I'm definitely looking forward to the future!

Gosh...

Just thinking about my first visit to Universal in 1998 after nothing but Pixie Dusting for years was such a nice change! While I love Disney, I always wondered if any other park could come close to them...then I visited Universal Studios Florida. It was amazing! Kongfrontation, Jaws, Back to the Future the ride, ET, Terminator 2: 3-D, Funtastic World of Hanna Barberra, eating at Mel's, seeing the Hitchcock 3-D and behind the scenes show as well as Nick Studios...it was all so amazing!

As things started to disappear from USF, I really thought the place was dying...of course it still had some heart with Jaws and ET, as well as newer awesome rides like Revenge of the Mummy and Men In Black, but something had changed. Until a few years back, I was a bit worried USF would become a has-been theme park...but today I look at all the cranes and walls and see so much potential for a renaissance and it excites me. Four or five years from now we may see a new crown jewel theme park resort!

I'd say the future is bright at USF, With WWOHP2,Simpson land, TF, KZ refurb, and all the other refurbishments and "plussing" Comcast is doing will make USF the place to watch (and be) for the next decade.

Totally agree!

Now I just hope one of the next rides after Kid Zone redo will be a flume style ride. Uni needs one of those in that park bad.

Each was great for its time. That's the whole thing. I do think Kongfrontation could certainly still be around today since it was pretty timeless and massively impressive. However, it was probably way too expensive for them to keep operating. They couldn't even keep the Kongs running like in the early days. So I guess we had to say goodbye to the old ape and accept it.

There are some misfires. Alfred Hitchcock to Shrek. Most people are probably familiar with filmmaking techniques these days and many displayed in the Hitchcock show are pretty dated. The Psycho soundstage and all that was classic stuff, but you can only see that so many times. That said, Shrek was not a worthy successor, in my opinion.

Wild West was an okay show, but those types of stunt shows have become dated. They were all the rage in the 90s. That space should be utilized for something new.

Twister's time is up. Time for something new.

The Simpsons was sure a huge property to replace BTTF. It's not that the ride isn't any good, but it is basically a carbon copy of the entire BTTF experience, only replacing with Simpsons. Same queue, rooms and ride, just different video. That could maybe have been something better, but I realize they had a specifically-purposed building to work with. I'll give it a pass.

Funtastic World for whatever is currently popular seems to work for that space.

Rip Ride Rockit was a radical idea for the park. It intruded on the themed areas up front, but it also placed a big roller coaster in the park and didn't replace anything, really. It's okay if you don't get the bumpy vehicle.

Many people lament the destruction of Jaws. I liked that ride, but just imagine the greatness they can replace it with.

I like your opinions.
I was a huge fan of Kong...not because it was the best ride, but it was just so impressive! Every time I saw that massive gorilla animatronic, felt the fire, smelled his banana breath...it just really wowed me. I'd love to see a Kong animatronic that big utilized down the road again someday.

Shrek is a good 4-D show, even though its dated. I too preferred Hitchcock, but it was showing its age.

Jaws was always fun...but could've used a solid overhaul.

Sorry Jaws was weak, see it once and that's it. Theme parks need to change over time, just because someone is locked in time doesn't mean everyone else is. As far as MK I loved if you had wings, the sky way, the race track. People now whine about fumes from the cars etc. but to a child the fumes and the noise and everything is exciting. Now all the old people want an electric Tron ride. ??? I guess they think a golf cart ride will be exciting?? No it won't. I live on the ocean so my kids won't be seeing Jaws any time soon. If you had wings??? Soarin pretty much covers that. I think Disaster is terrible and needs to go personally as far as Universal and ET does nothing for me at all. Never did never will.

Come on... Disaster was at least slightly humorous ( And E.T needs an update not a replace.)

I disagree whole heartily with your ENTIRE POST, except one part. Disaster being terrible. I could NOT agree with you more! That ride was better as earthquake and should have remained that way! But it indeed needs to go and fast!

Earthquake was never one of the E Tickets in Universal Studios, in my opinion. I think the update was okay, especially since the miniature high-speed camera effects displayed in the original are pretty dated from an early 70s flick (cool as they are). Plus, it's the only attraction left that has you actually starring in a production. It could probably be better, but the ride is still fun.

They should put a big indoor/outdoor Test Track-style Fast and the Furious ride there. That series is a big enough property for them, I'm surprised they haven't already.

That idea is actually slated as one of the main attractions for Universal Studios Russia. See the ride in the bottom-right corner of the following concept art:

I thoroughly enjoy Disaster. It's a brilliant way to take what you have and tweak it for the better. Earthquake is an old movie not particularly relevent anymore. Disaster is the exact same ride, but played for laughs and interactivity. I find it to be a lot of fun, especially with first timers.
