Since the opening game of the season...I said it was time for Nomar to leave the Sox... :lookaroun

Really...what did the Red Sox lose in Nomar? Is he a great SS? Yes. Is he a great hitter? Yes... Is he hurt? Yes. Was he leaving after this season anyways? Yes. Did he make that much of an impact this year? No.

When Nomar was on...he was really on...but this season he's been hurt and really not able to play to his potential...and he wouldn't have re-signed with Boston anyways...so I'm all for this trade :D

Nomar will be very missed in this city though...heck...the billboard outside of Fenway has Nomar on it and it says "KEEP THE FAITH." (I should probably get down to Lansdowne St. and take a pic of that before it goes BYE-BYE).

Local and Fox news was outside of Fenway last night...I believe I got on the news

We were struggling defensively...so we got a healthy shortstop and a MUCH NEEDED first baseman. (Granted...Orlando made the game losing error today...but it was a tough play).

Look at our potential now... Varitek, Mueller, Cabreras, Reese, and Dougy Doug. Pedro/Schilling/Wakefield/Arroyo, Ramirez, Damon (he's my homeboy), and Kapler...not that bad of a team on paper :D (People may be saying "Who's Arroyo?" but...lately...he's acting like our ace!) There is one flaw to this team...one flaw...and he hasn't been mentioned...but...his name is TERRY FRANCONA! (I still think Remdawg should be our manager!). Pedro's pitching a great game...11 strikeouts...in the 7th inning...strikes out the last two batters...and THEY PULL HIM FOR THE EIGHT??? ???

Now...from my standpoint...the Red Sox need to TRY to take the division but BANK ON grabbing the wildcard...hopefully this happens because we play the Yanks better than any team in our league  (Plus...could you ask for a better ALCS?)

Let me first say that I'm also from Boston and also a Sox fan... now let me say this: Isn't NOT pulling Pedro after 7 innings the reason we were all ticked off at Grady Little in the ALCS last year? CAN PEOPLE PLEASE MAKE UP THEIR MINDS WHAT THEY WANT?

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!!

Pedro was falling apart in the ALCS...He was done...it was time to take him out. The other night...he was still ON FIRE! A good manager KNOWS his pitchers...and knows when to hold em...and knows when to fold em!

In the ALCS...the bullpen was hot...the bullpen was VERY hot. Nowadays...the bullpen is blowing games for them...so...don't you think you'd want to leave your starter in (if it's ok to!) for longer to keep the ball out of the bullpen??? (in more ways than one).

BTW...I am now VERY happy to see Nomar go.

Inside sources have now stated that his "Achilles tendon" problem wasn't "real." He was to go back on the DL in August...and now...after the trade to the Cubs...he feels just fine. (The day before the trade...he was complaining that it was really bothering him and he didn't know how many games he'd be able to play).

Nomar...I do wish you luck in the future...but you've lost a lot of respect from the fans here...I just hope you think of the Cubs' fans a little more than you thought of the Boston fans. (I have a feeling after this year...he won't be in a Cubs uniform either...I don't think Chicago will pay him what he wants).

I was very disappointed with the Phillies last minute trades. The Phillies have a lot of talent on their team and I still think they can make the playoffs, but getting 2 washed up pitchers..........AHHHHHHHH. (Felix Rodriguez and Todd Jones) Plus they are both bullpen pitchers, not starters, and we need help with our starting rotation.

But........despite all of that, I still believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-the Nomar trade suprised me.

TiggerBW, as a fellow Phillies fan I really wished I could share in your optimism. Between boy blunder Ed Wade doing nothing to help our team because he didnt want to part with his prized minor leaguer's and the teams rampant finger pointing as to why the team is underachieving and nobody on the team willing to take blame for their lack of production, I find it hard to put my support behind this team. If you can withstand all of this and still be supportive more power to ya. I've seen enough for this year. And in no way should Bowa be gone. He can't get the timely hit or go out and pitch 7 or 8 quality innings. MerHearted is correct, bring on Eagles season.

FoolishMortal,
I'm ready for the Eagles too!!!!!!!!!!!! I am more optimistic about them. But, I never give up on my team. So I'll stick with my Phils till the end. I've always been that way, even when they were in last place. :)
I like Bowa too and agree he should stay. It's not his fault. And I too am annoyed with Ed Wade for his stupid trade decisions or lack there of.

Can someone explain to me why the manager get fired if the players
$. u. c. k. ? I understand about motivating players, but what if the owners refuse to spend the money to get some decent talent?

They need to point the blame on someone...

On the flip side...

Isn't it the manager's job to make sure his players play better? If a team doesn't improve...then the manager is not doing his job.

Thats what I mean about motivation...the managers & coaches have a job to do, but if you ask a pitcher to go at least 5 innings & they can't get past three, isn't it time for a change? I guess this is one part of the game I'll never get. *sigh*

you can't fire the players, so the managers get the ax.

If the owners don't spend the $$, it's called collusion.

I think there should be no contracts longer than one year in baseball. And they should be paid like golf and tennis players--you earn based on your performance. If you ucksay, then you're paid accordingly. If your last name is Bonds, Pujols, Jeter, or Schilling, for example, then you should receive a nice check.

And I don't think anybody is worth more than a million dollars a year.
Please, they are playing a game.

Nomar to ChiTown! Nomar to ChiTown!!!

Thatsa huge deal for thr Cubs, if they can sign him for a few seasons. And at least all the stupid SNLskits will be over, and we wont have to hear his name sang in that weird Bauston accent anymore.
:xmas:

Actually, wasn't that Jimmy Fallon that did those skits? I think he left SNL so they would have been done for anyway. You never know, though, he might be there for one last "How could they get ridda NOMAH!?!"

How about them REDS. With the moves they made, they've positioned themselves very nicely for this year and years to come. That new GM is some kind of genius. I mean really, who couldn't love the trades they manufactured? Batboy Ted to the Chillicothe Woman's Correctional Facility for Eunice "Knuckles" Migillicutty and a plate of corned beef. . .whooooo-eeeee.

Seriously, the Bengals have started camp and the Reds no longer exist!!!

Sorry, for me football starts after the World Series.
Just found out we aren't getting the football package for DirecTV. I'll actually get to watch some TV this fall. :sohappy:

Mark Bellhorn is on the DL for the Sox...sheesh...

Nixon, Bellhorn, Ortiz are out right now.

Varitek, Kapler will be out because of suspensions...

*shakes head*

I can't remember the last time the Red Sox put a full team of starters the field...

Luckily other players are stepping up to fill the voids.

Ok, with Nomah gone does that mean Theo and the Sox brass are planning on resigning Pedro? Yeah, Manny has stated that he'd restructure this contract to help with this but I'm not so sure about this. Don't get me wrong, I love what Pedro has done but I don't know if it's worth keeping him for *gulp* around $15M/year.

And to you Cubs fans: Hopefully Nomah will help get y'all to the Series!

Imagine what a Cubs/Sox WSeries will be like NOW

Even with Schilling...Pedro is still our ace. Everyone had their doubts about him...but he is as on now as he ever was. Last game alone he had 11 strikeouts.

I like the additions of Cabreras and Roberts...these guys seem like they want to be a part of this organization and are really excited to play for them. They (including Doug) really want to be a starter and they're gonna play their hardest to become one.
