How do you feel about the last minute trades?

Personally, I like Loaiza for Contrearas, but I'm not sure of Olerud coming to the Yankees.
Tampa blew it when they dumped Zambrano.
Garciaparra? I don't know what to think.

Any thoughts?
Your team make any trades?

The cubs got Garciparra and they won today! It's a great day in baseball. Now if San Diego could lose it would be even better! lol

I wasn't too happy with the Nomar trade, infact, I was shocked to see it happen. At least we got two defensive players in Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz.

By the way....Cabrera homered in his first at-bat with the Sox today (he also made an error). Bad news is we lost 4-3 to the Twins. Now we're 9 1/2 games out. :brick:

I think that the Nomar trade is good for both clubs. First, he's out of Boston who basically cut their ties with him when he was included in the A-Rod trade that never happened. His days in Boston were numbered from that point on. Did he dog it? I don't know, but a change of scenery was the best thing that could happen for him. He might even sign with the Cubs, who knows? Plus, at least Boston got something for him instead of completely losing him to free agency and getting nothing. They also got Orlando Cabrera who has the potential to be a very good SS. He'll fit in nicely in Boston's lineup.

As for the Cubs, Nomar could be revitalized and this could be a shot in the arm that the Cubs desparately need right now.

As for the Yankees, if Loiaza reverts back to last year's form OR Contreras pitches as bad for the ChiSox as he did NY, then it's a good trade. Time will tell on this one.

The team that impressed me the most was Florida. Shrewd trades and I think they really strengthened themselves.

Tampa gave up Zambrano; what did they get in return? I didn't understand that one.

Tigsmom, we can talk baseball ANYTIME!

Now all I'm hoping is that they WIN some games...and atleast make the playoffs. I don't see how they can sweep the Phillies and then lose these games against the Expos.

Tampa got 2 prospects from the Mets, Scott Kazmir, and Jose Diaz. Very good Im sure seeing as how they were their top 2 minor leaguers, and Kazmir is a former number one draft pick, but what good are they now? Tampa is 8 games back from the wild card and these guys arent going to be too much help in AAA ball. :brick:

So true! They always do badly against last-place teams, but hopefully in Arizona this isn't the case.

I can only speak as a Florida Marlins fan :D. I am saddened by the loss of Brad Penny because he was a good pitcher, but LoDuca's homer off his first pitch as a Marlin really energized the fans and the club. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come :D.

GO MARLINS!!!

Penny was traded? Shows you how long it's been since I've read the Palm Beach Post. At least Lo Duca is a definite improvement. Did they only trade Brad Penny?

I was just coming on to the Chit Chat forum to talk baseball. It was a shock to me to hear about Nomar being traded to my Cubs. I wonder what all the Red Sox fans think about it.

But... I was at the game today and it was sure nice to have Nomar play. He was 1 for 4, but everytime he came up to bat, the crowd went nuts. I am feeling more confident in my Cubbies!

Here they come to take the Wild Card!

Ok let's hope I get this straight :

The Marlins traded Penny, Choi, and a minor-leaguer for Lo Duca, Juan Encarnacion, and Guillermo Mota.

The Marlins also sent Abraham Nuñez to Kansas City for reliever Rudy Seanez. A minor-leaguer was also sent to San Diego for starter Ismael Valdez.

That's all folks!

Kazmir is a hard throwing lefty that should be a basis of the Rays rotation for years to come. Not bad for a 30 yr. old that can't throw strikes.

A little disappointed that the Cardinals didn't make a move, but I don't blame them seeing how THEY HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL.

Still probally some decent LF's that will make it through waivers that the Cards might pick up like they did with Woody Williams.
