Since we're sort of talking about dead bodies...

A Red Shouldered Hawk has moved into the neighborhood, which is bothering me because:

A. I have a lot of songbirds in my yard.
B. I have a very small cat.
C. The hawk keeps dropping doves on my roof.

I'll be sitting quietly at the computer or reading on the couch, and then "Thunk!" overhead. I'll look out to see a dead dove has bounced off the roof onto the ground. The hawk did return once to get it, but usually after about 30 minutes I have to retrieve the dove and put it in the trash before any of the cats, or my neighbor's dog, get it.

Yuck.

That is so disturbing!!

Last winter my dog was barking at the fence, and I noticed there was a dove stuck in between mine and my neighbors fence in our backyard (they had an old 3 foot fence so we put our 5 foot fence next to theirs). I tried to get the dog to come in but he kept running away from me. I figured I could take the kids to school and come back and deal with the dog. When I came back he was in the middle of the yard with feathers sticking out of his mouth - he had DUG A HOLE IN THE FROZEN GROUND to get to the dove. I never knew dogs would eat birds - I guess I had never really given it much thought. I was so creeped out.

Ew.

I got chased back into the house by three Sandhill cranes one day.

Florida birds are scary.

So, just to catch you up on things....
Yesterday morning we got a call from my brother that he had taken my mom into the hospital (about 1/2 hour from here) with shortness of breath and chest pains the night before. So we spent the day up there with her yesterday as they put her through a bunch of tests. They found she has fluid around her heart, but her heart is strong for a soon-to-be 93 year old. We'll be back up there today while they continue testing and figuring out how best to treat this.

Holy cow - but good that she is strong. Keep us posted on the treatment and we'll keep you (and her) in our prayers. Good luck.

I will say a prayer for your mother.

A lot of that could simply be nerves due to what she's going through. Praying for her & your family.

Thanks - the loss of appetite was ongoing before the hospitalization. She's had sporadic episodes of it in the past related to her Alzheimer's, but this is more severe.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers everyone.
