Unfortunately, most physicians have no idea about the cost of medication. My dermatologist was concerned about the minor scaring I was getting from freezing precancerous areas, so ordered a gel. It cost $500 without insurance (mine covered it) I didn't like it (made my skin red and patchy), and let him know that I could live with a few tiny scars.

My dentist is much better - he let me know that Publix sells some generics for $5. But now my insurance doesn't charge me a co-pay on most generics, so it isn't an issue.

My father had one medication that was $1500/month! And, in retrospect, it really didn't make a whole lot of difference in his survival or quality of life.

I do think the meds help, which is about the only saving grace here. She has some other things she takes too, but they're just generic things.
The plus side is this I put it on our Southwest credit card, so maybe we'll get a flight out of all this.

Soooo I renewed 3 of my mom's prescriptions the other day to the tune of $572, only to discover yesterday, that I also running out of a 4th one. I renewed that and just got back from picking it up - $529!!!!! for one prescription. Remind me not to grow old!

some companies say that if you cant afford their medicine call them and they may have a program for free meds. i had to do this with one of my wife's perspiration and as long as we make under so much they will supply it
