But why break the rules to begin with?

You can be in the picture if you use a timer or remote (or if you are good at stretching your arms out), but to come out and say you had a friend with you? Thats an admission that you did not take the picture, a clear violation of the rules.

Hate to say it, but its things like this that have caused some people to stop participating.

I agree, however since it has been decided by the powers that be that ALL photos will be included regardless of eligibility, then we will have to be viligant in our voting !

Personally, I think that if the photo isn't the correct size, correct subject matter, and abiding by all contest guidelines the post and photo should be deleted.

But lets not open THAT can of worms again.

We should. A rule is there for a purpose and if someone is going to break it, let's call it out; otherwise, why do we have the rules in place? The picture should be deleted and the rules of the contests changed to disallow this.

That is up to the person who runs the contests...

What say our fearless leader?

I enjoy the photos, all the photos, but this is a contest too. Why have rules if the voters are the ones who have to enforce them?

When the size rule didn't have to be followed, I winced.

When the photoshopped photo won the contest, I gagged.

Now you don't even have to be the person who took the photograph? What is next? Go find a beautiful professional photograph taken by someone you don't even know and enter that?

In nibbles' defense, the photoshopped fireworks picture was disqualified  We have to keep on top of this so we don't let the people breaking the rules get by I think. Or at least let the people who aren't aware know of their mistake :)

Don't think I haven't thought about doing that as a protest. The average person that would then vote would have no idea if a rule is violated or not. Contest rules are not posted in voting threads.

This is just a thought...since I enjoy these contests and I don't want to see them bogged down in arguing.

We could have a poll asking whether the contest admin. should have absolute power in deleting pictures that don't follow the rules.

I enjoy them too. I just want to see the rules enforced in a fair way.

I tend to agree with this point. If a picture appears in the voting thread, one tends to think that the picture is eligible, especially those who are not keenly aware of the rules. Besides, in all the "contest" that I know, if you break the rules, you're out. Having it listed is an endorsement of its eligibility.

yep...gotta agree on this one. This is one of those cases where I am not going to include it because she didn't take it. It's one of the fundamental rules of the entire contest and she just admitted she didn't take it herself.

Sorry WDWKat...

After reading over all the debate...and getting tired of people walking all over this contest...I have made my decision.

But first, to explain the reason why I switched over to the approach that I used when I decided to allow all photos in the contest. At the time that I made the switch, I received some flack from some people claiming that I was "too involved" with the contests. Some of those comments hurt me so much that I decided to include all the photos, so that I wouldn't seem too involved and pushy. However, it appears to me that this approach was a poor one and I do apologize. I am sorry if your "fearless leader" :)lol:) has failed but I have learned my lesson and now I'm going to fix it.

Therefore, starting with the next contest...things are going to change. The rules are going to be enforced once again. And if people think I'm being too hands on...that's their problem. I want these contests to be as good as they were when they started all those years ago.

So, starting next time, if your photo's size is too big, it's it disqualified, if your photo is photoshopped, it is disqualified, if you are in the photo, you will be disqualified, (WDWKat, I'm still disqualifiying yours in this contest...I know you know the rules), etc.

I apologize to you all for causing these contests to not be of the caliber that they used to be. I promise I will do all I can to uphold the integrity of these contests. If any of you have any questions, concerns, or problems, please feel free to PM me and we will address those. (This also includes if you see a photo get entered that you believe should not be included in the contest for any reason.) Once again, I am sorry.

(P.S. to the person who mentioned the photoshopped image that won...if you do look at the contest winner's page, you'll see that I did disqualify it for that reason.)
