Don't appeal to the lowest common denominator in the chat.

This seems to be a trend lately.

This isn't something that should really fire me up, but I'm pretty annoyed at how crappy this was.

Honestly, if he took you through The Little Mermaid... a ride that already exists in California, it would have been an improvement over what was given.

To your point about the fans versus the ostriches, I agree there's some of that - but it's the fans like the forum members of WDWMagic that are the biggest word of mouth salesmen for the parks. Throw us a &%$#@! bone.

Honestly, I got more information from a somewhat guarded cast member at the D23 Expo...
I like that they're doing this, but this was a very poor first performance.

I feel exactly the same way.

At the D23 Expo I had a very charming young lady Imagineer approach me in the Carousel of Projects as I was admiring the sprawling New Fantasyland model. She said hello, offered me one of those cardstock New Fantasyland postcards, and I offered that it was a very impressive model. We got to chatting, I made a very lame joke about the size of the tiny churros for sale in such a scale model and then I asked her when it all opened. She then proceeded to walk me from one end of the model over to the other, pointing out little things and talking about the "phasing" of when it all opened from 2012 'til 2014.

She was a delightful young lady who was obviously knowledgeable and proud of her involvement with the project. And she was happy to chat for a few minutes and offered up a wealth of info just for the price of a smile from on old fart like me.

For the record, her "phasing" tour of the model seemed to line up exactly like the info Lee has offered here. Also, for the record, chicks dig churro jokes. :D

Why did anyone expect to have anything big answered? By now most should be aware of how these types of deals are going to run.

The big information will come when Disney wants you to know about it.

That's the thing - they didn't even reveal any little details. Most of the members of this board could have provided more detailed answers to the questions that were asked.

Hope so as I am still thinking they may have some suprises for us.

Anyone care to bet that the question about water features was from Epcot Explorer?

Oh well, perhaps this was so lacking in new information because it was a bit of a test run. Or perhaps we just should not expect new information being released in this manner. Time will tell.

Well, glad I didn't clear my schedule to attend THAT.

Honestly--it sounded like the whole thing was canned. Almost like it was a robot. "Chris, mind if we use your name? We're going to have an intern cut and paste stuff from our press releases in a fake live chat! There's no money in it for you, but you'll get a nice check mark on your next review."

DISNEY! Yeesh, in today's internet fan-world, you just can't do that anymore.

When it's too fake, too canned--it TAKES AWAY from the magic. When will they get that?

Might I also add that whoever is doing these concept sketches, is very average. The first Fantasyland painting is awesome. These look like they're done by a run of the mill storyboard person. They're competent and professional, but distinctly uninspiring.

So I just learned in another thread that he said there will be hidden stories in the forest and that he was looking forward to this feature the most. I guess the take here that no news was broken was incorrect.:brick:

I am encouraged to hear about this. Very interesting possibilities!

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Disneyland Parc is a beautiful park, just a shame how many people treat it, the Studios on the other hand still needs a lot of work. The additions in the last few years have made it bearable and events like Terrorific nights are incredible, and the unique shows in the park such as Cinemagique are brilliant. More attractions are still needed to make it a full fledged park.

I thought the web chat was pretty pointless, nothing was given away, just generic answers that looked like they had been copied and pasted from a list of answers written for him.

So true!

Disneyland Parc is Beautiful but people just trash it and its an awful shame!

As for the studios.... def the work park in disney history.... some amazing little shows and touches but the long rumoured overhaul is more needed the DCA's was:fork:

How can you take something that ambiguous as news? Oh wait....nevermind. :brick:

Nothing like it has been even hinted at before. Some here have speculated about the possibilities but this seems pretty official assuming he did not misspeak.

People still do not grasp the scale of the FLE which is why I have speculated there would almost have to be some features within the forest itself. That seems to be what he was hinting at.

We don't - those answers read like they were prepared beforehand for all kind of questions that came up and then just posted with the appropriate questions. We don't even know who wrote the questions. The whole thing could easily just some intern hitting the send button with predetermined intervals for already existing texts...

Hey, Bolna, kind of sounds like the kind of the thing that might've been discussed in a social media thread somewhere one time...hmmm :)

I'm not Bolna, but I've been told I know I thing or two about social media and its uses and abuses!

But I must say I am very pleasantly surprised by the fact that it sure looks like the vast majority (a crazy here or there nonwithstanding) of folks here got what Disney was trying to do today without any evil old Disney Hating Spirit spewing his vile hatred of all that is Mouseworthy!

It shows the folly of Disney's Social Media efforts that here in a most MAGICal place (where ... let's face it, most folks for the way too longest of times were willing to not only give WDW Co. the benefit of the doubt, but pounce on all the doubters) almost everyone saw today's playing of the fans for what it was -- propaganda/weak PR.

Well, I suppose when even Sea World is announcing new plans that sound more exciting than what your company is doing, what can you expect?

Besides, the Mommy Bloggers and the paid 'independent' webmasters and podcasters will tell their many (in actuality not that many) minions that Disney is doing the best work in the theme park industry today (it isn't) and that its best work is being saved for its showcase resort in Florida (ahem ... um ... uh ... not unless we just moved to Asia!)

The thing is how do you guys/gals feel when you get so played? When Disney is so smarmy and over the top in pretending to give a damn about your thoughts (as well as the Disney Legacy)? Does it even matter (it sounds like it does, which gives me hope!)?

Duncan Wardle has proudly touted (while justifying his job and salary) that for every negative comment about Disney online, there are 18 Pixie Dusters shouting them down. You can find the youtube video yourselves.

Thing is, I (the most vile Disney hating -- so much so I'm headed back to DL next month for an unscheduled trip! -- Spirit) hasn't said a word and there are like 9-10 pages of posts basically calling Disney on playing the fan community.

For those playing the Spirited home version, that's exactly what I've told you has been happening for a decade plus -- and the entire purpose of D23 and The Disney Parks Blog (oh and those small-time Imagineers playing with fanbois in the Twitterverse for the entire world, especially their employers to see!)

Understand though, you all (with no help from me or anyone else) have shown in this very thread that you do see BS for what it is even if it comes in a hot fetid pile shaped like those three circles.

I don't have much to add, except I feel a whole lot better about the MAGICal community today.

And that I KNOW every single post in this thread is being read at Celebration Place (and quite likely Glendale and Burbank) because this was a test and while y'all aced it, WDI/Social Media flunked it.

Now, anyone want to get Lou Mongello to post here? How about Thomas Smith. Or Jenn Fickely (she's really good at her job!) Anyone wanna see what Josh and the team at Voce has to say about Disney's job today in manipulating its audience?

Oh, and the 18-1 comment deal tends to get touted proudly. As if by simply shouting down and drowning out dissent that it ceases to exist or somehow isn't relevant (yeah, it's the old Walmart is popular so it must be good deal).

The embarrassing 'performance' by Chris today (and that's what it was) has to be water cooler talk on the left coast. I think I will be making some calls to SoCal later tonight!

Pixie Duster, That's a great description since DOM went out of favor.

Well, I certainly take no credit for either term (or fanboi ... even if I do survive on their tears:drevil:).

But the technical description probably has something to do with people being emotionally manipulated into having irrational attachments to the Disney BRAND.

Those are the people that generally start out with something like ''I don't care what Disney does or if they ever add anything or if they quadruple the prices, I'll still love it.''

And, yes (before you ask), I absolutely believe people with that mindset are suffering some sort of mental illness.:xmas:
