Spirited quick hits:

It's all about sincerity or lack thereof, as others have said. It's having someone really take your concerns/issues seriously and not just look you in the eyes and tell you to 'Have a MAGICal night.'

Or the social media equivalent, which is to not answer anything.

Folks (anyone who understands companines like Disney didn't expect any REAL news. BUT ... there is a way to talk without talking down and ignoring things. Disney and Chris have a mapped out schedule for when the expansion will open. Does he really need a press release and corporate approval to say 'we hope to have Mermaid up and running by October' ... or 'FP will be used on this, this but not this'.

Their zest to control the message down to the most inanne detail will show their folly in social media.

Most of the people who visit the Parks Blog are not like Francine ... as a matter of fact, that appears to be a plant since they HAVE to justify the Mommy Panel and Mommy Bloggers and the millions of dollars they've spent on them. If you have a question that basic, do you really find yourself on the Disney Parks Blog? Most folks don't get beyond disneyworld.com unless they're fans, not simply vacationers.

Eddie Sotto? Sure, they absolutely are reading his thread (as I'm sure folks in Burbank are). But Eddie hasn't worked for the company as an Imagineer since the 1990s. He owns his own studio and is free to speak his mind. He still is often quite political here choosing to not speak about certain matters. But at least he is HONEST and says as much. He doesn't pretend issues don't exist.

As for Disney Imgaineers in the Twitterverse, I truly wish I could comment as I'd like. But suffice to say, take a look at who is (and who isn't) doing the Tweeting and see (despite their little disclaimer that the views are theirs and in no way reflect TWDC yada, yada, yada) what exactly they are saying. NOTHING of substance. Look at who they are Tweeting with. Young fanbois. Look at what is being communicated: hey, we're all just fans just like you ... aren't Dreamfinder, retro EPCOT, the Orange Bird and Dole Whips at the Poly just the bestest things in the world? Show me one tweet by any of them taking a shot at their employer or a decision made or even some product the company has put out. Just one. ... It's drivel.

It's not about not releasing news. That is understandable. It is about not releasing anything at all. It is about being insincere and talking down to the audience. It's about hoping that just by letting you talk with a cool Imagineer (they aren't all cool, they aren't all nice and they certainly aren't all talented -- lightbulb can and has talked about this quite a bit) that you'll go into Pixie Dust fever and not think about Splash Mountain falling apart, food prices going up again, another year with ancient parades, Main Street being an outlet mall with meaningless facades etc.

But rest assured all your comments are being read by the Celebration Place Gang (funny you'd think if they could tweet with the fanbois that they'd be able to post on fan sites just representing themselves and not the company, right?) Do I really need sarcastic smileys?

Follow your dreams, follow your passions? Get Real...

No one I've ever heard of in the last two decades has gotten a job at WDI by following dreams or passions ... again, they most definitely is NOT how it works.

And who would actually believe some drivel like that today?

A couple of questions/thoughts on awakening today:

WDW1974: "I think I will be making some calls to SoCal later tonight!"

Well? How'd that go?

JT: "They are not going to release news in this manner ever. That is what events like D23 are for."

That's not true. The only thing lamer than this chat was the D23 Parks and Resorts presentation. Remember all the stunning news from that one? The one that Tom Staggs basically had to apologize for?:lookaroun

Yeah, that SeaWorld presentation looked cool! They went all out on it.

I hope that what WDW1974 says is true, and this stuff is being read. Constructively, I just want these events to be actual events and not cut and paste robot press release stuff. I think we all felt talked down to, and that's just not right.

The D23 Expo gave us a ride through of the Mine Train. That's a lot more than we got with this chat.

I understand that Disney needs to be definitive on some of these things, but in terms of things like Fastpass - we know they're building Fastpass queues for three rides but they won't commit to that. Do you really think there's going to be a huge outcry if they definitely said, "Mermaid, Seven Dwarf's, and Dumbo will all use the Fastpass system" and then it's determined that Dumbo and Mermaid didn't need it? They announced 2 elaborate meet and greets in September of 2009 and they were cancelled and replaced by the Mine Train before land clearing began.

Is there really going to be an outcry if they give us information that is correct at the time but happens to change? Can't they put the disclaimer at the end of this that explains, "All of this is accurate as of right now. We don't anticipate changes, but they remain a possibility."

No, That would make too much sense.

WDW1974 - if your employer used Twitter, and you used Twitter, how willing would you be to criticize your employer on there? None of my employers have even ever heard of Twitter, and I still wouldn't dare make a critical comment about my employer on there.

Really, what do you expect?

Beyond that, I strongly disagree with you that it's all "drivel" from the WDI folks on there. They certainly don't discuss work, but they discuss things about which they're passionate, they share content they've created, and they say things that make them come across as real human beings. If you're going in expecting scoops on projects or tirades against management, your expectations are skewed. As you noted, Eddie Sotto is sometimes restrained on hot-button issues, and he's NOT an employee of TWDC. These folks ARE employees.

Their interactions are a stark contrast to the cold, bot-like responses received yesterday during the chat.

I agree. Any employee would be out of their mind to criticize their company on a social media outlet. Even on a personal account you run the risk of it getting to the wrong person and losing their job.

Why would you expect or even want them to talk trash Disney on Twitter? People get fired for things posted on private Facebook accounts, they'd be insane to say anything on a public Twitter.

And god forbid they use Twitter like normal folk, to discuss their hobbies and things they like.

Good point and fair one. I don't really expect them to 'rip' their employers ... but to act as if everything Disney does (even in other divisions) is all MAGIC and Pixie Dust is another thing.

Of course, I don't Tweet and I discourage any/every one from doing likewise as I truly believe it to be one of the signs of the end of days!

And, to be fair, those who tend to Tweet (not talking Disney here, folks in general) often put out something stupid that the whole world including employers, family, friends, neighbors etc can see. People are very ignorant as to the dangers of Twitter and FB and put their whole lives out there.

Beyond that, I strongly disagree with you that it's all "drivel" from the WDI folks on there. They certainly don't discuss work, but they discuss things about which they're passionate, they share content they've created, and they say things that make them come across as real human beings.

I think they come across as smarmy BRAND-loving folks who were encouraged to tweet with fanbois (actually there's more, but I don't intend on going into it here at this time, sorry!) Now, I am generalizing because I don't know all the folks involved ... but there are a few (who I am opting not to name even if they put their tweets out for the world) who seem to follow the pattern. And they are largely not Imagineers, but work for WDI in more of a PR/writing/consulting capacity.

The only BIG name who Tweets is Bob Weis and he doesn't talk back and forth with fans (I mean can you imagine a fanboi asking him 'so are you putting Pirate Mountain the SDL or not?'), he is there because (again) TWDC has demanded that of him.

I am not going in expecting anything. Since I don't Tweet, I don't converse with them. I am sure some fanboi dolt has brought my opinions to their attention, which I am fine with. I find it more revolting when the Disney Social Media team tweet with the fanbois and pretend their views aren't the views of the company. It's all a scam.

And Eddie chooses to restrain himself, but he's also been honest and blunt. No, he's never (to my knowledge) talked about personal arguments at WDI (with say Tony B :)), but he's not all political and BS. If he were, I don't think he'd have a bo ... I mean a thread such as he does going on for so long.

Here's the article that Chris Beatty referenced, it includes the following photo:

They have challenged guests to guess what it is. I assume it's the Ursula Animatronic.
