So, what tone are we going for here exactly? I see us talking about something dark, I see someone else talk about giving the cryptids fun personalities and having them interact, I see Maelstrom mentioned which implies a more historical/educational look at myths, I see Shanghai Pirates tech referenced which lends itself more to big effects and showstoppers than simple scary moments.

I'm just not fully sure what direction this is headed tonally.

Personally, I think Haunted Mansion is a good kind of guide. Start the ride slow and dark and ominous, but then the second half (instead of being funny and singing and gag filled) is a tense, scary chase with big effects and pushing the limits of what an E-Ticket can be.

So, slow and scary. Transition to fast and tense.

I can use my unused engineering degree to look at some big effects and maybe whip up some edited technical blueprints from Shanghai Pirates and things like that. Help see what new tech I can find and how it could be implemented here. Give us some more realism and some big E-Ticket flair. Something Tiki seems to be emphasizing in the prompt

My idea is more having it be a darker theme with characters still interacting with each other, rather than like one-offs highlighting individual cryptids.

I think we could use this with my idea. Introduce the characters in a context where they don’t know guests can see them and they’re just interacting with each other, and then once they realize the guests are there, it picks up in pace and the fear factor, turning into a kind of thrill ride.

Sounds good to me! And for the "thrill" it doesn't have to be like a coaster or flume suddenly. A bit more brisk and a drop or two, but we don't need it to become a traditional "thrill ride" to be thrilling

How are we going to work on this project? In groups or all together where we individually add on to a scene?
I'd imagine similar to Incredibles. Brer does art. I can do the technical stuff. Jokers was talking about music and stuff for the presentation. Someone else can handle the facade and how it fits into the park and what changes are needed to make it work. Then the other three people can divide the ridethrough into Acts and either each take an act or work on it all together.

Of course, this is just a guess based on what I've been seeing so far. I'm not emperor PM this round and just because people mentioned things earlier doesn't mean they meant to volunteer fully for that role.

Hey guys, just got home from a party with no WiFi so I’m gonna catch up on the brainstorming. I got a reply from my friend and she gave me a stellar idea so I’ll post it in a few. Gotta eat first and then we’ll talk!

I’d also like to work on backstory/ maybe queue if there’s room. I have a fairly solid idea of what I want the backstory to be, which I can expand upon once I get out of work.

If I’m doing a soundscape, I’ll need a scene outline ASAP, which we should be able to finalize as a team fairly quickly/ easily.

Alright, so essentially what my friend gave me was this

“The Wendigo is totally perfect for a ride and I’m glad you came to me about it. Thanks to Pet Sematary and Hannibal and other pop culture, the wendigo has become this cookie cutter monster that usually strays so far from the actual legends that it’s pretty offensive.

The Wendigo is the embodiment of evil and greed and is one of the most terrifying and terrible monsters in any Indigenous American legend and so many fiction writers make it just this Generic monster for their horror short. If you took the actual tale of the wendigo and included a queue explaining the history of the creature and the Algonquian people, it could be terrifying, educational, and respectful.

However, if you’re just going to have a monster showcase ride or something, leave it out. The Wendigo isn’t just a folklore monster, it’s a real fear for many indigenous peoples and if it gets its own ride, give it its own story. Don’t just make it another cookie-cutter monster.

I believe in you. Also, don’t do Bigfoot. Bigfoot is boring. Love ya”

So, with that being said, what if we did a chase ride of sorts focusing exclusively on Wendigo. Showcase a monster so many fear so much, even to this day, in a way that is true to its origin and not just a generic Hollywood monster. The whole deal with the Wendigo is it’s insatiable appetite is because of it being a very greedy person in life who turns to a monster when corrupted (also cannibalism leads to it in some legends, but we can skip that part if we want) and we could give the ride an anti-greed message

That’s pretty much exactly what I was thinking. The Wendigo is a perfect antagonist. We could definitely intersperse a few other cryptids, but the focus should absolutely be the Wendigo. Maybe we could have some skin walkers too? Or would that be too much or disrespectful?

I love the idea of having the Wendigo being the antagonist! Hopefully, we can still include other cryptids without being disrespectful. I’m still holding out on the possibility of including the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp lol

I’d like to work on the facade/external work, area story, and the technical elements of making the attraction fit into this area! I like the idea that this really integrates Native American history into Liberty Square when it hasn’t been included before!

I’d generally skip mixing different cultures legends as key plot points. However, if we wanted to sprinkle a few other cryptids in as cameos I don’t see anything wrong with that, so long as our focus is true to the story of the Wendigo.

So today our goal should be to select our roles and get started, so I’ll start breaking it down.

We need
- Facade/Queue
- Story
- Concept Art
- Sound (I know Joker wanted to do this)
- Technical Elements
- Anything Else I’m missing?

I’d like to do some story stuff, mainly where I have a consultant about the culture at my fingertips so I can make necessary tweaks to the story as needed

So I think that we’re up to four people who have said that they wanted to work on the story. Maybe that’s something we should try to finalize together as a team then? I’d still like us to finalize a scene outline together as well, preferably by the end of the day so I know what I’m gathering sounds for, and because finalizing that (even if roughly) would really help up keep this project consistent and everyone on the same page.
