Now I dislike the Tronorail even more

I finally broke down and watched the original Tron today for the 1st time. OK, I get it was made in 1982, but come on - It was TERRIBLE! Why did they make a sequel to this movie? It's not like it was very successful. For a Disney movie especially, I found it confusing as heck. Does anyone care about what happens to these characters?

I agree. The original TRON is pretty deadly. I think the reason it's being remade is because computer technology has advanced so much since the original film premiered, and therefore Disney believes - I hope - that its ability to create a more believable digital world will result in a better story.

We'll see...

Frankly, I wish Disney would lay off the remakes and reboots and do something new and awesome, like the rumored Snow Queen movie.

The thing I don't get is, the special effects, at least there is an excuse for how bad they were. It's old. That's understandable. But the movie itself was confusing and flat out unenjoyable.

The sequel (if that's what it is) looks like it has amazing special effects, but if the story is half as bad as the original, I can't imagine enjoying it.

I could try and explain its appeal to you, but I think I could just best sum it up by stating it's a product of its time.

Asking why Tron has appeal in many ways would be like a teenager in 2010, who owns an X-Box, asking how anyone could like Pac-Man or Frogger.

It was bad. I remember seeing it as teenager and thinking it was pretty crappy.

Now you have a new task. Go and watch "The Black Hole" and then hope they don't make a remake of that.

I wanna know why there are so many Buddy sequels. Where is the Buddo-rail? They could paint the sides like one of those dogs and give the monorail legs. And now there is a sequel to Santa Buddies. :xmas: Buddy can take those jingle bells and shove em! That way he could poo out more sequels!

Next stop: The Neverending Budd! They could make Buddy look like that flying dog in Neverending Story, so he could match the new monorail!

I'm only 23 so I grew up with modern effects and technology, but I still like the original TRON. And I'm really looking forward to the new one as well. The original has a kitsch feel to it, and the effects back then were pretty new and exciting.

Not sure how you found it confusing. If you saw Inception then you probably wanted to throw up from your brain hurting so much.

If you're only 23, how do you know if the effects were new and exciting? You weren't even born yet.

I found it confusing in the same way Transformers was confusing. Everything looked the same and you couldn't tell up from down. I have no desire to see Inception. I could tell by the previews it would confuse the heck out of me.

perhaps you're just easily confused? :p

Now I will say I like the original TRON, however it wasn't a perfect movie and I bet people's eyes were messed up after leaving the theater.

However, it did have some very cool, very unique elements for me. The grapics were very cool for the time IMO, the vehicles and just the pure neon of everything...this is a time before most people even owned a computer and there was no such thing as even Microsoft Windows yet.

I do think it failed because it came out too early...I think with 2-3 more years of improving the looks of it (with the advancements of cgi) and releasing it in 1985 or so would have made it better in the box office. It was a geek movie before geeks were popular.

Anyway, I don't know anyone who wouldn't enjoy seeing an attraction built on the vehicles...and the new movie just is pure eye candy so far.

I want to see the non-true rumor, The Enchanted Tiki Birds :D

..and maybe the rumored Jungle Cruise movie...

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I'm sorry you didn't like it. I have great memories of that movie. I'd explain more but you've already established such a dislike for it that it would be pointless.

You do realize that the Tronorail is an advertisement for the 2010 remake, not the 1982 cult classic, right?

The same way I know about any type of history that happened more than 23 years ago. History books, documentaries, the internet. It's all fascinating stuff. You were not alive in 1776, but can you tell me some of the details of the Revolutionary War and the feelings and mindset of the colonies? I bet you can...
I love geeky culture like Star Wars and Back to the Future, and yes TRON. I know how they were made and what the general consensus was when they came out. Computer graphics were not heavily used in film before TRON. They may not have been the best, but they served as inspiration for lots of filmmakers after them.
And before anyone says anything, no I did not think Inception was confusing.

No, please - Do. I have an open mind. Maybe I missed something. It wasn't one of those movies I went into planning on disliking.

Actually, I can't. I can give you some history background, but I didn't live it, so how I can give you any mindset as to what people were thinking?

The general consensus of Star Wars and Back To The Future compared to TRON? The first 2 were huge blockbusters (biggest movie of their respective release years). TRON was a dud even by 1982 standards.

I didn't have any issue with the effects. I didn't expect much more from a film that old. I had an issue with the weak story, uninvolving characters, and seemingly pointless ending.

Well he/she did find Transformers confusing... :p

I don't know why disliking the 1982 movie gives you the right to hate an ad for the 2010 sequel/remake more. For all you know the new movie could suffer from being too simple, or be amazing, or be something you hate but others end up loving, therefore justifying its release. In the end, you're just one opinion and one that hasn't been formed yet for the 2010 movie which "Tronorail" is selling.

And speaking of opinions the 1982 movie scores a 6.7/10 average rating (based on over 26,000 votes) on IMDB, a 68% approval rating on RT (based on 38 reviews) with a 69% rating for audiences on the same site. So yes, some people do actually like it.
