Not so sure about Mission Space

If this were the Epcot Center days they would have a high tech Omnimover ride that takes you thru a bunch of great scenes and planetariums, a bunch of egzibits, the worlds largest planetarium with a great show and the simulator as the cherry on top. Thats what I want from a space center something more memorable. Imagination is still like that, the living seas has an aquarium and the land has Soarin Living with the land and much more, and out of all the pavilions not to be packed its the space pavilion :hammer: LOL. I would spend a good 2 hours in a place like that, hail if they want to make more money have a space battle ball room, I am not a kid anymore but I would love to go to epcot and shoot the crap out of people with foam balls. One other thing epcot still doesnt have when they are trying to make the park fun for kids :hammer:.

That they would, and I really hope they do consider expanding on the idea at some point. They have a building built, already, right next door...

And I think you need to turn on your spell check. ;) Egzibitz?

Horizons was just a clone of Spaceship Earth, as was World of Motion.

Well, I don't know about all of that....

Your SSE and WoM comments hold a little bit of truth, but the Horizons one, doesn't, in my opinion. WoM and SSE were similar in the fact that they told linear, Historical storylines is perfectly true, and because of that were bound to intersect on that detail. That's about as far as I see it, though. Both had different themes, WoM, transportation, SSE, Communication. Both were also different in style and execution. WoM was purely whimsical, silly, humorous, and all about the gag and fun of the topic. (that can be attributed to it's Imagineer, Ward Kimball) SSE was the opposite. It was much more serious, grand, sweeping, and more inspirational. It focused on the actual facts and implications of the scene.

But yes, very similar in basic, basic ways.

Horizons compared to WoM/SSE, though? The only real similarity in my eyes is the use of AA's and scale. Where SSE and WoM took you back into the past before you got a fleeting glimpse of the future, Horizons was holistically future based. You saw Jules Verne, romanticized versions of the future from days past, and then it was off to the late 21st Century. ALL of it was a experience, on land, sea, and even out in space.("But let's start out at our place!"- Grandpa) It wasn't linear like it's Omnimover brethren to the north and south. It was a look into a moment in time, not a sweeping glance at the whole History of it.

Sorry if I over wrote...but...I love this stuff. :D Something tells me you all knew that.

I am NOT a roller coaster person, but I LOVE Mission: SPACE. And not the 87 octane version; I like the full, high test stuff. I know it's not real, but danggit when I'm on it I have FUN. And isn't that what Disney is all about? Even if disbelief isn't suspended, I want to leave a ride having had fun.

Isn't that a bit like saying Pirates of the Caribbean is just a clone of It's a Small World? They both feature boat rides where you float past show scenes, and both have a catchy soundtrack, but you otherwise can't honestly call the two experiences similar. If they were "clones", then Rock n' Roller Coaster is just a clone of Space Mountain, too.

That's what was there. And nobody went on it anymore

False. Attendance surely slacked considerably in the final years - but nobody rode? Simply not true.

Of course, when you leave an attraction to become stale, closed part of the time and it often looked like it was closed even when it was open (even with a potentially full queue, you wouldn't see anyone around except when immediately entering or leaving the pavilion) you probably shouldn't wonder why it draws fewer crowds. The solution to that involves creativity, effort, and certainly imagination. It most certainly does not involve a wrecking ball.

I head to Disney Tuesday and I have been on this ride in 05 when I was there last and got really sick. I know they have the version that doesn't spin now which I intend to try, but my boyfriend has not been on it and I was wondering if we can stand in line together then go on the different versions or if we have to wait in different lines. Anyone know how that works? Thanks!

I always see Horizons as being more of an extension of Carousel of Progress. Where CoP covered family life in the 20th century, Horizons too it a step future and showcased family life in the 21st, or 22nd. And while both SSE and WoM both had future scenes, they were only brief glimpses. Horizons covered it in detail.

Back when EPCOT was in its original intended state, I felt Horizons tied all the other pavilions together, and served as more of a focal point for the park than SSE did. All of the original pavilions' concepts can be seen in Horizons.

The standby queues for Green Team (less-intense, non-spinning) and Orange Team (more-intense, spinning) are kept completely separate. However, I believe the FastPass queue is shared between the two teams, and splits off at the FastPass merge point.

LOL... thanks, I did but it had no options. That building would be perfect for a space pavilion. Knowing that a great ride could of stayed and a attraction on its way out could wait 4-3 more years. I think the changes in epcot are starting to become a big money pit.

Speaking of horizons, I am happy to see that there isn't so much bashing of Mission Space taking its place. On my first thread this one guy was crazy (not giving names). He flipped at me because I said I like the way Mission Space looked and how I was making fun of horizons looking outdated and like the Millennium Falcon. He boycotts imagination, Mission Space and pretty much picks out every flaw in Epcot. There could be a weed growing in a flower bed and he would start a whole thread about it. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw him peeing on leave a legacy with a protest sign. I say imagination is still good but I prefer the old version, and you know my story about mission space.

Yeah. It had a line, albeit a small one (Omnimover...) pretty much anytime I was on it. So did SSE94.

And in the end, it is GE's lack of sponsorship that killed it.

The seriously was directed at the fact that I obviously knew SOMEBODY was riding it. But apparently we all must be taken completely serious on the internet.
