I think Gary had a pretty fair assessment of things. If you're gonna come on here and laud a player, you gotta realize that there will be others who don't share in the same opinion. I don't think Gary is intentionally bashing T.O., but making an observation the way he sees things.

Vince, take a deep breath and see this thing out. Are you a T.O. fan or an Eagles fan? Just because he's gotten hurt, you've flushed the season down the toilet--because one man got hurt. Let's see you rally behind your TEAM and your coaching staff and give them a chance to make the adjustments.

And remember this.......it's just a game.

I agree...

Believe me...I know how hard it can be to see your team come close year after year and always seem to come up short. I know how much of a disappointment it can be when you eat/sleep/breathe for your "team" and have them come within reach and fail. I know I said it once...but I was the same way when I saw Curt Schilling stumble off of the field "HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN??? THIS WAS OUR "ACE IN THE HOLE" to win!"...and the outlook of his return looked grim at best. Did we, as fans, give up? No. Did we get nervous? YES!

A great season of football was ahead of us...Drew Bledsoe gets badly injured. All hopes of a .500 season went down the drain. The rest of the team rallied together. Tom Brady...gets injured in the postseason. Drew comes back to pull the team to a victory.

Look at it this way.
Your team has some "play room" to not play up to the caliber of a team with "T.O." The NFC is weak. I hope the Eagles do it...(if the Pats don't...that is :D )...but I hope, for the team's sake...they do it without T.O. to give them more confidence in each other for next season when TO is healthy.

Vince,

I apologize if my saying: "TO thinks he's the whole team" offended you, and that was certainly and exaggeration, but you've got to admit he thinks a lot of himself and isn't afraid to say it. He obviously doesn't mind people thinking he's an a$$ for acting that way (or else he wouldn't do it), so why should you let it bother you?

It's not just a "game". It's so much more. TO isn't just one player, he was the heart of this team. Is Peyton Manning just one player? TO made everyone on this team better. He took a team and a city that was down and made them believe. This year, the Eagles had an aura they never had before. It was magical. I was proud to be an Eagles fan before. But this year, I wasn't only proud, I was dancing. I wanted to show the whole world how proud of the Eagles I was. Don't talk to me about what kind of fan I am. I love this team. I love this team like nothing else. It's because I love this team that I feel the way I do. I haven't given up on them. But I realize the road is much tougher now. But I will believe in them, I just have to.

Next Monday Night is important. It was originally a meaningless game but now it's a game the Eagles need to send a message. They shouldn't just try to beat the Rams, they should try to blow them out. If they can, I think it will make a lot of people feel better.

That's alright. Well, if people can attack TO, why can't I defend him? He has done nothing but help this team. He deserves at least that.

There is so much I could say to all of this, but I'll let it go.

Talk to me when you are 20 years older and tell me if your perspective has changed.

I'm tired of the "when you get older" or "when you mature" comments. Ok, when I get older, let me worry about family and bills and retirement. But now, let me have this. Let me have this passion for something I love and believe in, whether it seems naive and immature or not.

Fair enough.

But stop your crying and moaning about how bad Philly has it all of a sudden. If you're gonna go down with your team, at least hold your head high.

They aren't a bad team by any means. It's just are they good enough to win it all anymore? I've gone down with this team every year, sorry if I'm getting a little weary of it. I'm a fan. Fans worry. Fans look into everything. Fans don't just go, "oh well, it was a fun season, maybe next year." Just ask Red Sox fans. If you don't wanna hear me be concerned about my team, you don't have to listen to it. And at least, I'm not making you listen to Ben Affleck. :p

But they are good enough--at least to get to the Super Bowl. Let's see what happens if they get there and see what they can pull together.

I understand the passion, I just don't buy into it anymore.

Okay, just one lil' comment by me... I think what everybody is saying, Vince, is that it's very frustrating for us to see you get soooooo worked up, so upset, to the point of depression, over something you have absolutely no control over !! Is it worth what you invest in it mentally and emotionally?

Ahhh! Well, I guess there are worst things than a TO injury. *covers eyes and ears*

Yeah you're right, the Eagles can make the Superbowl. And then it's just one game and one game applies the "any given sunday" philosophy. If Miami can beat New England, I guess a TO-less Eagles have a chance against whatever AFC juggernaut they face.

I know it seems silly for those who aren't die-hards. But a true fan rises and falls with his team. They are with their team through everything. They care about everything. It's something real fans take pride in. I hate people who jump on the bandwagon. Every year, towards the end of the season, all these people jump aboard and pretend they really cared all along. I can't stand them. This is not their time, this is our time... for true fans. If we win, everything is great and everyone celebrates. But if we lose, they jump off like it was none of their business. Real fans experience the thrills of the greatest triumphs and the pains of the lowest moments. No matter what, you don't leave the team's side.

Like the 49ers.

See, teams like the Niners and the Cowboys shouldn't be so down. It's a cycle. All teams will eventually be bad. It's just how it works. The Niners and Cowboys are horrible now, but they have tons of Superbowls wins. And they'll return to the spotlight again someday. Bucs fans shouldn't complain, you had a Superbowl win just 2 years ago. You had your time and you got it. It's teams who never had the glory that should be concerned. They all have a window of opportunity and it can't be wasted. The Eagles are managed really well and will continue to contend for some time, but even then, there will come a time when the Eagles will fall. We can't keep going to the NFC title game forever. That's why we gotta seize the opportunity now.

Well, since the can of worms is open...

I've always had a slight problem with people who follow a team to the point of obsession describing themselves as "real" fans (while the people who think of other things during the season are not).

I don't doubt that there's a sense of camradrie and bonding among the diehards that the rest of us can't understand. But I don't accept the premise that you have to live and die with every play to be a "real" fan. There are teams I follow and root for. I've seen games that have made me jump up and shout, and games that have made me cry (a little). But regardless of what a bunch of guys I'll never meet do on a field or a court or a rink, the sun comes up and all the stuff that's in my life everyday remains the same. I root, yes. I celebrate some. I mourn a little. I make some emotional investment. But my life goes on, whatever happens. And I am a fan...and no one will ever tell me I'm not.

My definition of a fan is one who stays with the team no matter what, through the 15-1 seasons and the 1-15. Anyone who jumps on and off a bandwagon is not a fan.

I'm only a fan of 2 teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Penguins. I watch and cheer other teams. Like I follow the Phillies a bit and even go to games, but I don't consider myself a Phillies fan.

See now, as a fan, I'd never say something like that. My feeling is the Eagles are a lot more than TO. It's too bad that he got hurt, and it certainly will make things harder for them, but that's what the game is all about.

There are still two games left in the regular season, and you're saying the season could be over? How is that "die hard"?

I didn't say "Forget the Eagles! Let's go Sixers!". Saying things are bad doesn't mean I don't support them, they're just my reflections at the moment. Let's all jump on Vince now. Who's next?
