maintenance issue... heavy liftjack had to be brought into the area just before fantasyland station.. (before the switch) to repair an issue with 3 ties ...

They are also doing a few other things today since the trains are taking the day off without notice... Re-subbing about 25 feet of railway near pirates as well..

not a big deal... They MAY not run tomorrow depending on the weather here as well.

Incorrect. They only have 3. The Lilly Belle has been out of commission since 2009 and is currently in Pennsylvania.
OK you learn something every day. Why is she up in PA?

There is the Strasburg steam short line....they have a large shop......maybe some repairs the WDW shop can't do? However there is not much the WDW shop can't do!

Took the Steam Train tour a couple weeks ago....Lilly Belle is being rebuilt, but have no fear, she will return. At that point, one of the remaining three may go through the same process, although they didn't say which one. BTW, the tour was great!

PS Just a little extra info
No. 1 is the Walter E Disney
No. 2 is the Lilly Belle
No.3 is the Roger E Broggie
No.4 is the Roy O Disney

A little more severe than that from what I understand, but they were definitely working like mad today. Was anyone around later today to see if they actually got it open?

The only thing that would effectively stop all the trains(they have 4 main engines, 1 extra one) is the track being worked on........either maintenance or work in the area of the new FL.

No, they only have 4: The Walter, The Roy, The Lilly & The Roger Broggie. There is no fifth engine.

Well she's been the parade/show train and hasnt been in passenger service for ages now. Whats the deal in PA? Getting rehabbed? Gone to the great museum in Strausberg?

During the whole process that resulted in No. 5 Ward Kimball at Disneyland, there was a brief period where there was a fifth locomotive at (or maybe just for) the Magic Kingdom. Disney accidentally acquired a locomotive too large for the Disneyland Railroad but suitable for the Walt Disney World Railroad.

She's getting an overhaul. Much needed, as she was somewhat temperamental, and a bit of a diva. ;) I'm told she had some frame issues and a crack in her smokebox, all of which are being addressed along with other needed repairs, which should put her back in regular service finally. Although she's had a few refurbs, I believe she's still working with some original 60s/70s parts, on top of the use these engines get. Lilly Belle was actually the first locomotive finished and delivered to the property, summer of 1971.

WDW originally had 5 locomotives purchased for the MK. Roger B. and Earl V. only planned on purchasing 4 engines, but they spotted a 5th matching locomotive in a park across the street from the yard in Mexico, and asked if they could pick that one up too. It was cheap, so they did. The 5th locomotive was a matching type to the Lilly Belle, but was found to be older and too far gone when it was opened up in Tampa. It was sent to CA, stored for a bit, then eventually sold.

Separately, there is one more recent time frame where there were actually 5 engines in service at WDW, like @lazyboy97o said above. In 1974, the Retlaw-1 train was retired from service at Disneyland. The cars of Walt's original - and favorite - train were stored in the back of the DL roundhouse for the next 18 years. In 1992, Bill Norred, a rail collector, approached Disney to acquire the Retlaw-1 train with the support of the Disney family, as he was afraid it would be scrapped or fall into disrepair. In 1996, Disney agreed to trade him the Retlaw train cars for one of his Forney locomotives, to be used as a replacement spare while the existing Disneyland locomotives were being taken offline for rebuilding. Turned out the Forney was too big for DL's trains, so it was shipped to WDW, where it was used briefly while Lilly was taken offline for refurbishment. Then it turned out the Forney "Ward Kimball" was too small to be used efficiently for WDW's operations. It was then traded to Cedar Fair for the "Maud L", a non-working Baldwin locomotive, properly sized for Disneyland operations. The Baldwin was rebuilt and is the current operating DL Ward Kimball Engine No. 5.

That's the one I was referring to!

I do think it would be cool if the Fort Wilderness trains worked again.

And actually if Fort Wilderness got some love again as the fabulous resort campground that it can be... not just a place to sleep. It really has in the past had the most to do of all of Disney's resorts and worth standing on its own sometimes. I really wish that Disney remembered that about all of its resorts... that each can be treated as a stand-alone resort and have attention to detail as such, not just as a bedroom for Magic Kingdom guests. Then things like real, working trains and dinner shows and playgrounds and bike trails and horseback riding and marinas and pools and restaurants and pool parties and picnic sites and golf and other resort amenities would all get the attention that they deserve (not to mention for the price we pay to stay there). There is so much more to do at WDW resorts, especially FW, that they never seem to emphasize in marketing any more. And if they did, it would help take pressure off the parks and remind people once again that WDW is more than theme parks.

Careful what you say about this, you could get banned from Disney for life! (Seriously) lol
