No more Wishes?

Another Wishes engaged girl here!

We were rushing into the park to see Spectro and Wishes on our last night and we watched Spectro from right near the train station, then we walked all the way up Main St to the castle along with the parade, singing along and "conducting" the music and lighting changes. Then we found a nice bench directly facing the castle. DH whispered "tonight the hearts will be for us" (I always like the hearts in WIshes), and then he suggested we take a photo in front of the castle while we waited for Wishes. He got some guy to take our photo, but then he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. Then we watched Wishes!

We used Wishes as the last song at our wedding.

On our first trip it was still Fantasy in the Sky (early 2003), so to me Wishes, still feels new.

I honestly wouldn't change any of the nighttime shows. I think they're all amazing just the way they are.

I love Wishes but wish they would plus it a little bit....Wishes 2.0 or something. Add some perimeter shots to the finale, change up a couple of of the special effect shells, and maybe take out some of the movie sections to add newer movies and it's good for another decade or two.

Call me a sentimentalist but I hope they never do away with Wishes. Fireworks set to song/movie over one of the most recognizable icons in the world.

I do agree with those who say it probably needs to be updated some with maybe some newer movie sounds and change and/or add fireworks.

Same here, I love Wishes and my wife always cries when she sees the show or when she listens to the music at home.

When Wishes does get replaced (eventually), it will still be fireworks set to Disney songs in front of the castle. It is more about keeping the fireworks fresh, and always trying to improve the show with better/more/different shells, effects, songs, etc. For example, I would imagine the next show will incorporate elements of the Magic, Memories and You technology.

So while I am a fan of Wishes, much like RoE (which I love) it is getting a little bit older and could use a refresh.

There's a rumor going around Tumblr that the firework show may be retiring this january... :(

The likelihood (or lack thereof) of the rumor aside, I still remember having exactly the same reaction, before Wishes debuted, to hearing that Fantasy in the Sky was ending. It's funny that I can't even remember anything about that show anymore, but I remember not being happy that it was being retired. The point being that even if Wishes does go away, it may very well be replaced by something you like even better.

Incidentally, I remember several years ago seeing a one-time display over the Seven Seas Lagoon as part of a pyrotechnics industry trade show. They showed off a number of very impressive effects that I have yet to see employed in an actual show. So as good as Wishes is, there is absolutely room for some spectacular improvements if they ever decide to replace or update it (or any of the other fireworks shows for that matter).

Im thinking Wishes will stick around until the 50th. Then hopefully they will do something very similar to Disneylands 50th fireworks. Id like to see the original IllumiNations return, at least for awhile, where the cultures and countries are more focused on.

I think it would be weird to go to WDW and not see Wishes... I hope they never get rid of it. Maybe they could upgrade it a little to change the show slightly, but never get rid of it completely.

We could only be so lucky.

Wishes is close to ten years old.
Fantasmic is more than ten years old.
And Illuminations is around the same?

Could use something new. (And I don't mean bring back a 30+ year old light parade.)

So what would you recommend take the place of those various shows? Should they continue the fireworks shows but launch the blue ones three feet to the right and the red ones five feet to the north?

I'm always amazed at the simple-minded complaints without a logical suggestion on how to fix the so-called problem. Just because you're tired of the shows doesn't mean everyone is tired of them. And in case you didn't know, a majority of the rides and attractions at WDW have been around 20-30 years. So by your logic we should just nuke POTC, HM, IASW, SM, all of the World Showcase and the TTC? Yeah, that's what I thought. :brick:

Wishes is like ... fingers on a chalkboard when those moppets start singing. UGH!!! Beautiful pyro, though.

But word is that Disney is indeed planning a replacement, but not in the near term (2011-2012) but likely before they ever put out a new parade for MK.

:dazzle:

So 2013 before we get new fireworks and no chance of a parade until after that.

They really should take Share a Celebrated Dream Come True whatever parade out of its misery.

What are they waiting for? The 50th?!

I'd like to see Wishes include the MMY technology, and include Permitter Fireworks (During busy seasons/Weekends). IMO, it would freshen the show up a little bit.
Loved the Permitter fireworks during the 40th.

Not a fan of Wishes, but with Muppets is another story. ;)

I love Wishes. First of all I cry every time it starts when the little girl sings the star light part, I use to say that prayer every night before I would go to bed when I was little and it brings back happy memories. Second of all I too got engaged after Wishes, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. While I would hate if they got rid of Wishes completely, I think that they should upgrade the pyro, maybe change the songs, etc, but keep the overall theme.

As air and water pollution continue to increase in Orange County Florida, I think WDW will be forced to diminish their pyrotechnic displays in the near term and most likely eliminate them entirely by the end of the decade. Light shows will replace the fireworks.
