I finally decided to follow my bliss and be procative about getting a job at WDW (I am a local). I called the job line and they have a recording saying they have limited employment available. The I spoke to a live CM and she said they have NO jobs available at this time and to try back in October! such a big place and no jobs available??Not good! I k now it is off season now and I am sure with the economy more people are looking to wdw for jobs when they normally wouldnt but jepers! A few years ago they were giving sign up bonuses becasue they needed people so badly.

All of the college prgrams just started too & its one of their biggest programs because they just opened a new apartment complex. I dont know how much cps impact regular hiring, but that might have something to do with it.

If i recall correctly, they would rather have cp's as its almost cheap to free "slave labor' compared to what a regular cm would be paid.:fork:

Funny this thread should come up right as I applied.

I applied at the Casting Center yesterday and nothing was available either. They only had future spots. People were everywhere wanting jobs. The line went down the ramp at Casting. But the recruiter made me feel like I was dirt saying I didn't look good enough to work in front of guests. He only offered me to be on the waiting list for 3rd shift custodial which isn't one of the things I even applied for. He was a real jerk and now I have him as my recruiter for 6 months. :(

Today I am calling to complain about him.

I guess that if you REALLLLLLY had wanted a job, then you should have applied a couple years ago and got the bonus.:xmas:

And Raven, you need to clean up your act in order to be on the front line to serve me and my kin. Hah!

I would re-think bothering to work for them in that case.

I second that.

You have to realize that no matter how much you love Disney, a job is still a job. If this is how they're going to treat people who want to work for them, imagine how they'd treat you when you actually do work for them.

CP,s are paid the same as regular pt employees and both are cheap labor.

They aren't paid the same as part time employees, they don't have to same rules regarding overtime and holiday pay, and Disney gets half the paycheck back in rent payments anyway. It's definitely better for their bottom line to go with CP's as opposed to PT or FT CMs.

Raven, my recruiter was terrible as well. I had problems with my file and questions about things and she never returned any of my calls or fixed the issues. Left me with a horrible start to the whole experience with Disney.

I worked for Disney back in 2005 and let me tell you, if you are there to make money you might as well forget it. My wife and I both worked for them {I worked at Caribbean Beach Resort and she worked at Kilimanjaro Safari} And we struggled to make ends meet. But the experoence of working for them is the best I have ever had in the work field. Pay sucked but I wouldnt trade it for nothing:animwink:

Yup, they aren't hiring, nor are they even giving shifts to Seasonal Cast Members, which stinks because I was hoping to work a day when I am down there in October. :brick:

What "look" could someone have that they wouldn't want a person working in front of guests? I have seen tons of front line people that don't have the look of Cinderella or Prince Charming working the front lines. Far from it at times.

Could someone spell out some of the details regarding what kind of looks are not suitable for daytime guests? Toothless with a mohawk?

You mean Cp.s are paid less than $7.25 which is what most of the other front line employyes start with. Fl.imum wage is less than 7.00.(Dont remeber off hand what mimimum is here in Fl.)

Yes, I k ow pay stinks, most is around 7.25. I live about 150 miles away Rount trip and the pay would go in my gas tank.lol I might come out with 30.00 a pay check. I just want to work Sat and Sunday. That is all i could afford lol

Does anyone know the availability of job for applicants with at least Bachelor's Degrees? I have just earned mine in Civil Engineering and my wife is about to complete Business Marketing. I check the Disney Corporate site occasionally, but it seems as though more openings would be available for such a large company. Any ideas? We are moving to the Orlando area in the next few years and are prepared to work elsewhere to gain experience toward Disney, but we would love to start at Disney!

Edit: Grammar Mistake

CPs are cheap labor – TRUE

Yes, they get mim. Wage – that stays consistent through out their program, whereas, regular cast members get raises. CPs DOES NOT. CPs also has to dish out money WEEKLY for their apartments (and that money goes to PRICE MANAGEMENT - which is if you ask me, I hated PM with a passion). That ranges from the $60+ (I dished out $90-something for mine). So check to check, we are talking $100 to maybe $200 (if lucky). How are CPs supposed to live on that?!? Especially when most choose the Ramone-Noodle diet…since that’s all they can afford.

I also have to add - no benefits - not part of the union = NO RIGHTS!

CPs aren't given requested days off - FALSE

It really depends on the managers you have. I was lucky. I had a nice 40 to maybe 36 hours a week, with nice shifts (only a month's worth of crappy ones). And I requested plenty of days off, and had them off. But I know, some aren't as lucky. 50+ hours a week, NEVER get requested days off. CPs is like a random shuffle. You really don't know what you are in store for - until two weeks AFTER you worked there.

Disney would rather have CPs than regular CMs – TRUE

The quantity of CPs increases year after year. It’s perfect business. I mean, every single thread I see here – is from Disney buffs that desires to get paid nickels and dimes, just to work for the magical world of Disney. Hey – I did it. And indeed, it was the best experienced I ever had in my whole entire life. And I suggest ANYONE to do it. But that's the whole point. We are all suckers, and Disney is the slyist con-artiest of them all. For those that actual depend on making a living with Disney, don't expect much...(unless you have a degree - I know they always hire those that have degrees - but that's even more limited).

As for ‘not hiring’. Look, it’s rough times – even at Disney World. As I understand it, the department I was in – is now decreasing hours.

I want to go back to Disney – but I am waiting for a very long time. I know it isn’t going anywhere – and hopefully, times will be better.

For those that desire ‘magic land’ now…I say, look elsewhere. Keep your application there – but don’t count on it NOW

Well, I got a call today from casting offering me a part-time 3rd shift custodial role at Epcot. Debated taking it but it's at least a foot in the door until something better comes along. Hooray for free entry! :sohappy:

Interesting indeed. I as well was trying to be proactive and called and spoke with a casting rep. She (a college student) told me that there where no openings as well. I enquired if the reason being was the Disney College Program and she quickly replied that it has nothing to do with that and the DCP and normal casting is headed up by 2 different departments therefore they do not have an impact on hiring nor each other. I give it to her for reading the script well. I mean I find it odd that just as she is telling me this, that WDW is not hiring you can go to DisneyCareers.com and see that the WDW resort IS indeed hiring, catch 22 is that they are hiring in Puerto Rico. Funny, huh? I mean why would WDW be hiring there? Could it be the cost of labor? Not sure. The position on DisneyCareers said for house keeping, resort front desk, park/attraction operations, custodial, retail and food services. Seems like all the basic categories to me. . . anyway just wanted to share my experience.
