Could they be doing this to accommodate the Coke Freestyle machines? :cautious:
If they really go to Freestyle machines, I hope they plan to add plenty of them, especially at the busy food courts. I've always found that they take significantly longer to use, especially for those still unfamiliar with them and the flavor options.
I like Freestyle machines, but please not at Disney! Tourists are never ready to order after standing in line for 15 minutes at a counter service restaurant. Can you just imagine the backups if they are presented with the options of a Freestyle machine!?

I agree with the machines holding things up.
As far as I'm concerned I could care less about these mugs because I don't get them and don't waste my money on the DDP.

According to WDWinfo.com, Sarasota Springs has rolled out a new refillable mug without a handle.

I personally don't like this because when we were done with ours, I would use a carabiner and a piece of paracord to attach them to my backpack.

Here's the link with pics:

Anger... rising...

How am I supposed to carry all the mugs for my numerous children all at once???? This was a superhuman feat that I had mastered. Now, this...

I have an idea - how about we just have both options? Handleless for the clearly confused masses, and with handles for us poor schleps. ;-) I think it could work.

I must be lucky because I've never had a problem with the handles in the cup holders in my little Focus. I definitely prefer the handles because I like to take my morning tea in mine and I have never left for work with less than three things in my hands and I'd have to get very creative to manage without a handle. Oh well, my mug from my trip last month can be my on-the-go one and the mug I get from my next trip can be a desk beverage one that doesn't require easy portability.

Wow....it's $18 now for a Resort Mug..?
No, wait...it's not even a mug now since it does not have a handle.
Now it's a 'tumbler'.
How droll.

My how times have changed...
( starts to reminisce...feels age coming on....brace for a flashback.... )

Back in the 'unlimited refills forever' Mug days ( 2000 / 2001 for you young'uns ) there were two choices - the big 'chunkies' and the skinny 'travelers'.
'Chunkies' were large rotund mugs ( with handles! ) that kept your drink cold for three hours and had a secret compartment on its bottom that could be used to stash money or other small items inside of.
'Travelers' were just that...travel mugs ( with handles! ) that fit into places travel mugs do.
They had that sexy 'hourglass' shape custom made for those cup holders in your car, stroller, cooler top, or truck.
Not the shape of today's 'mugs'...no siree.
It was great...the Guest could choose which mug worked best for them and their needs.

Another nice thing from back in the day -
The mugs ( with handles! ) were also all custom designed to be Resort specific...none of this 'generic one design for all' nonsense.
All Star Movies mugs had cool art showing a filmmaking scene, while All Star Music next door had Mickey and friends rocking out in a music themed scene.
It encouraged you to want to 'collect em' all'....or at least make you curious as to what the Contemporaty or Poly had on their mugs.

The best part however of Ye Olde Mug ( with ye Handle! ) Days was they were heavily promoted at the Resorts at that time to be limitless.
It was made clear that you could use your mug now for free unlimited refills, and then use it again in the future the next time you stay at the Resort.
In other words, free refills for the life of the mug.
All this for $12.

I still have those ol' 'chunkies' and a 'traveler' or two.
Still use them at home, and still brought back my 2001 'chunkie' every time I visited annually back then at WDW and stayed on site.
Last time I brought it was in 2013.

Ahhhhh.....those were the good old days.
Mugs were mugs and had dang handles, cool Resort specific designs ( Dixie Landings - South of the South inspired art! ) and unlimited, truly free refills for years.

Life was good.

Kid's today don't use handles. They have phones and they don't have handles, so they are not expected. The parks need to change to keep up with the times and changing audience tastes, they cannot be forever stuck in the past because of an obnoxious minority on a message board.

Please keep up with the times. Of course kids use handles!

I travelled in 2001 and I think I still have my chunky mug from All Star Movies. There was something slightly more unique to Disney about the chunky ones. But when I got it it was for length of stay only. Although I think they didn't print it on the mugs then.

We quit buying mugs a couple years ago. I don't drink soda and husband just likes Dr. Pepper, so just bring along our old ones and make my own coffee or fill with water.

Score one for Ford! My 2014 focus fits the mug as well!

We had a Dixie Landings mug as well... unfortunately it has been lost in moves and time =/. They should bring back resort specific designs, and I think your summary as to why is enough to explain why. However at almost $20 and the current size I would never buy one if it did not come with the dining plan.

Why do people carry these in the parks? I always see them dangling from backpacks.

I know! Can't refill them in the parks (except from a water fountain.) Do people really think they are saving money by bringing one full cup each into the park (because they hold so much?) Wouldn't it be empty or warm by the time you get to the hub?

Personally, I don't like to carry anything. But I guess if you already have a stroller/backpack scenario, it's no extra burden(?)

P.S. Nobody has to drink soda all day. Anyone concerned with the cost (or health) has the option of drinking water. I don't pay for [uhealthy] drinks unless they have alcohol in them LOL.
