No Handles on New Refillable Mugs

I know! Can't refill them in the parks (except from a water fountain.) Do people really think they are saving money by bringing one full cup each into the park (because they hold so much?) Wouldn't it be empty or warm by the time you get to the hub?

After breakfast at the resort I'd rather head straight to the bus stop near the lobby than take the time to return the mug to my room.

Why on earth would you use this mug outside of WDW? It holds like 8oz... they are horrible mugs if you actually want something to carry drinks around in. "it works in car cup holders" just makes no sense to me as a change of value.

Hey it holds 50% of the volume of the OLD mug so in Disney's view they just cut refillable soda machine cost by 50% because people never notice how much drink they ACTUALLY get... WDW just makes me want to hurl because of their relentless dimunition of the guest experience.

As to the OLD cups fitting they fit both Ford Superduty pickup's the Escape Hybrid 2 ford explorers and a toyota corolla. what did they NOT fit a SMART Car perhaps??, Keep thinking about buying a SMART car and installing it as an escape pod on the F350...

This is actually quite simple. Disney reduces their costs by eliminating the plastic handle, but does not pass the savings along to the
consumer. THEN, Disney will come out with a detachable handle similar to those sold by Tervis in corresponding colors for say $2.95 or $3.95 each when customers start complaining about no handles. Win-Win for Disney.

Wait.. and the new handle will only work for the length of your stay. :)

Agree they're not huge, but they're the same 16 oz. that most travel mugs are. I use mine daily for coffee, same size I usually get at Wawa.

FWIW, the Universal refillable mug fits great in cupholders due to it's larger size, yet the WDW mugs won't hold more than a thimble's worth of liquid.

I travelled in 2001 and I think I still have my chunky mug from All Star Movies. There was something slightly more unique to Disney about the chunky ones. But when I got it it was for length of stay only. Although I think they didn't print it on the mugs then.

As handy as the old 'travel mug' models were, I love the old 'chunkies'!
They do a much better job keeping your drink cold longer and the graphics were often fun and unique.
Another handy thing is they are impossible to tip over which is great when working on a project or riding on public transportation.
Love those ol' BAMs! ( Big *** Mugs ! )

There was a short window where Disney promoted the mugs as being good for refills on future visits / Resort stays.
I remember visiting in September of 2001 and buying my first mug that I still use today - a purple 'chunkie' from All Star Music.
The reason I bought it was because of a huge sign / poster up in the food service area of the Food Court promoting the mugs, and clearly stating loud and proud 'free refills during your stay, and on future stays!'.
I remember that, as it was the sole motivation for me to get a mug as I knew I would be back next year.
Seemed like a good investment for someone like me who would visit yearly, often staying at the same Resort.
Would not have bothered buying one otherwise if such a concept was not presented before me like it was that day long ago in the Food Court.

I really wish I had taken a photo of the area or that eye catching sign.
There has always been debate within the fan community about this, but the first two years mugs were sold they were sold as 'non-expiring' free refill items.
That policy changed in 2002 / 2003 when the new shipments of mugs started appearing with the tiny fine print stating otherwise ( length of stay only ).
Since the designs never changed, most 'annuals' kept bringing their old mugs back.
I would bring my 2001 model and enjoy some bubbly sweetness.

Mmmmmm......sugar......

The best part however of Ye Olde Mug ( with ye Handle! ) Days was they were heavily promoted at the Resorts at that time to be limitless.
It was made clear that you could use your mug now for free unlimited refills, and then use it again in the future the next time you stay at the Resort.
In other words, free refills for the life of the mug.
All this for $12.
And now, they will be offering Old Magic Your Way, for just $10.00 and a small activation fee of $8.00 they will put an RFID chip on the bottom of your old mug. You can now show your veteran Disney Park Goer status by toting your favorite discontinued mug. Imagine the looks people will give you when they see what the good old days looked like when you sport a Dixie Landings beverage container.

Disclaimer: Per TDO, this offer is not valid in any US park or those overseas.

Now you're talking..!
I like your thinking!
;)

All those Guests will wanna know where they can score a awesome pearlized surfing 'Lilo & Stich - Summer 2002' mug.
You know they will be asking me where I found it and where can they buy one!
( try DTD....16 years ago....)
They won't be satisfied with their boring, 'generic' mug....when they see the awesome retro design taunting them.

I'll be the envy on Property!

To which they reply, "What is DTD? Is that like where Disney Spring's is"? And then, just like how Disney is putting retro merchandise out, in an effort to be retro, we will see the old resort mugs appearing. If there is more money to be made, they will do it.

Because real life is the pits so if I can drink my morning coffee on my way to work in a Disney mug, it makes the day seem a little bit brighter.

Yep.
All the more reason those Guests will be drooling over my awesome retro mug!
Nothing sells like 'nostalgia retro' merchandise showcasing things that no longer exsist.
Disney has practically made a very profitable nitch market for it now, what with them closing so many things recently at their Theme Parks.....
