Trip Report No Baby, Still No Sleep, but LOTS of Food - Oct Trip to the Contemporary

Hello friends and happy Halloween eve!

Here is a link to my pre-trip

Several things changed between that pre-trip report and the actual trip, mostly reservations. Let's get into it!

Who: Me and R, celebrating 7 yEARS!
You may be wondering where the tiny person that accompanied us in the spring is. She stayed home with her doting grandparents and didn't even miss us! My mom kept her at our house all but one night, so she was happy in her normal routine.
When: Oct 19-24
Where: The Contemporary

Our trip started on a Saturday, which was a first for us. My mom arrived at the house around eleven and we finished up packing. I made sure she knew where everything was and we got on the road around noon. I got emotional in the car, but after that I was ok! I'm not a super emotional person, so while I missed my girl and felt weird without her, I wasn't like crying the whole time.

Our drive to the airport went smoothly and we stopped for some Lenny's once we got through security (only takes like 5 seconds in Memphis)

Not the most appetizing photo, but I love subs.

Some cute Southwest decor.

Flight took off on time and landed early. Score! We'd used ME tags so we didn't have to pick up luggage. We waited a little bit to get on a bus, then we were the last of 4 stops. The most expensive resort takes the longest to get to  Go figure. I think it was around 1.5 hours between the bus leaving and finally getting there because there was some traffic backed up near the Poly. I feel like maybe that's what they tell you to expect, but it almost never takes that long once you're going.

We'd originally planned to eat at Wine Bar George that night, but cancelled it a while back. I figured I'd rather try to get to Epcot that night and if we couldn't, we'd just eat at the Contemporary. With the long ME ride, I was worried, but it worked out. Also I was STARVING.

Perhaps my extreme hunger made me see these as fried eggs. I couldn't unsee it for the rest of the trip.

A quick nighttime shot in the room. I didn't do room photos since we were in a hurry to get to Epcot.

The Contemporary welcomed us with some much-needed chocolates that I scarfed down. It didn't do much to satiate me, but it was mostly tasty! Some of the truffles(?) were better than others.

I think we were on the monorail by 8:30 or a little after.

Hello, beautiful!

We made a beeline for some food.

Active Eats
  1. Loaded Macaroni & Cheese with Nueske's® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar and Leeks
  2. M.I.A. Beer Company HRD WTR Key Lime Hard Sparkling Water, Doral, FL (basically, lime White Claw)
The mac and cheese was good as usual and we basically inhaled it.

The Cheese Studio
  1. Braised Beef “Stroganoff” with Tiny Egg Noodles, Wild Mushrooms and Boursin® Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese Sauce
  2. Black Pepper Boursin® Soufflé with Fig Marmalade
We've gotten the stroganoff before and always enjoy it. I let R eat most of it because the soufflé was mostly for me. I don't think he even tried it! I liked it. I'm not really familiar with soufflé or what the texture should be like, but based on what I've read it seems like they did a good job. I loved the fig marmalade too!

Inside the souffle

I had gotten us a FP+ for Epcot Forever, so we didn't venture far. We decided to check out the place that's in the old O Canada space.

Appleseed Orchard
  1. M.I.A. Beer Company Apple Trappe Belgian-Style Tripel Ale, Doral, FL
  2. Playalinda Brewing Co. Apple Pie Beer, Titusville, FL
  3. Sea Dog Brewing Co. Green Apple Ale, Clearwater, FL
  4. Ciderboys Lemon Cello Hard Cider, Stevens Point, WI
  5. Collective Arts Brewing Cherry Apple Hard Cider, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
  6. Woodchuck Hard Cider Spiced Apple, Middlebury, VT
All of this was in flight form as you can see in the photo. None of them really wowed us, but it was all refreshing.

At this point it was about 15 minutes until Epcot Forever (it was at 10pm this night), so we headed to the FP area and found us a spot to sit. Everyone stood when the show started, which I was fine with.

I didn't hate it, but I thought it was a little boring. I don't have nostalgic ties to Epcot, and I think that's who this is for. Also the wind was blowing toward us, so it was really smoky and we got stuff in our eyes a few times. I guess it's a good thing I didn't LOVE this show, since it's temporary. I'm interested to see the one they're working on!

We exited with the rest of humanity after I made a stop at the pin station and bought some pins. There were a couple of limited edition ones I wanted and some mystery boxes that had just come out. R almost choked when he heard the total :hilarious: It's not a cheap hobby!

If I remember right, we didn't have issues getting on the monorail. It does take some time to get all the way around from the TTC to the Contemporary, but we survived.

When we got back, we decided to grab a drink at the Wave lounge because most lounges closed at 10 and the Wave was open til 1, I believe. We got a couple of drinks and some waffle fries (YUM!) and for some reason I took no pictures. Three girls in the college program sat next to us and we chatted with them a little because one of them was from Tennessee as well ,and the Vols game was on. One of them was a character attendant and actually knew a friend of Anna/Rapunzel who goes to the school where I work. Small world!

Anyway, we headed back around midnight and crashed. It was a long day, but a great start to the trip!

It's a Sony A7III. I LOVE it. I am a wedding photographer and the focus abilities are just top notch for fast moving, hectic wedding days. It's good for Disney too :)

Oh that is awesome! I am trying to dabble a little in photography, just for fun. I am borrowing our friends DSLR for our next trip and I am hoping to play around with it to see if it is something I would like to invest in. They also have a lot of great classes around where we live that are fairly inexpensive on how to use the cameras as well. :)

And I know some others on here have lost loved ones recently, so we can commiserate.
So right there with you. For me it was actually worse than I thought it would be. I'm not going to lie--I'm glad it's over.
I hope you're feeling better.
Not gonna lie, I think this tile is ugly. It looks like a crime scene.

Hope you feel better soon. That lady who photobombed your Headless Horseman shoot cracked me up. I’m sure she had no clue, and was trying to figure out where the rider’s head was, then got scared out of her wits when the flash went off.

Loving all your photos, but especially enjoyed the parade ... you captured the Halloween mood.

Hope you’re feeling better today - both emotionally and physically 😘
Thank you! I am. Of course now R has the bug...thankfully baby is still ok.

I was definitely thinking of you guys! I know with such a big, close family it's got to be so hard. My husband's step-dad is one of 6 kids and their families are all super close too. They lost Papaw this year (plus Rhett's step-sister...it was a really rough year) so it was hard for them. But we still have so much to be thankful for! Two new, healthy babies in the family this year :inlove:

Oct 21, Day 2 (continued)

I have a few minutes before the baby gets up, so how about another update?!

R really wanted the beer flight from Belgium, so we headed there.

We also went in Mitsukoshi and looks around. We left empty handed, but on the way out, I grabbed a drink I'd heard a lot about: Violet Sake!

It was tasty, but not a new favorite. I'd seen people say it was as good as the violet lemonade from Flower & Garden, but I wouldn't compare them at all. I prefer the lemonade, which is more of a slushy. MMMMMM I want one now.

I stopped for a quick photo without my party pooper husband

Apparently I was thirsty this day cause next I stopped for a Joffrey's treat! This was the pumpkin cold brew (without sweetener)

I really enjoyed this! Would definitely recommend.

The skies weren't looking very friendly, so we hustled out of World Showcase, but we didn't quite make it so we ducked into Mouse Gear. I figured I'd see about getting our magnets. We asked a CM and were directed across the breezeway to the area right outside of Electric Umbrella.

They gave us both! Woo! I was hoping they had Minnie Mouse left since we'd just missed her.

It was pouring, so we ducked into Electric Umbrella and went upstairs to sit at a table. There was hardly anyone up there, so I just sat and finished my Joffrey's. I feel like we were arguing about something, but I can't remember. We don't really fight, but sometimes he'll annoy me, and I'll give him the silent treatment for a while until I forget what I was annoyed about :hilarious:

I'd made us a FP for Spaceship Earth, so we decided to head over there. It was sprinkling, but not pouring anymore.

Doesn't he look thrilled? He doesn't care for this ride, but I HAD to ride it before the refurb!

She's beauty and she's grace!

I didn't take pictures, I just wanted to soak it all in, including the smells.

With that, we headed back to the resort. Again, wish we'd done the express monorail to MK then walked to the resort, but I guess since it was raining, that might have been inconvenient. The monorail from Epcot to the Contemporary just takes soooo long.

Ok baby girl is stirring! Up next is our evening in Disney Springs!

Oct 21, Day 2 (continued)

Once we were back in the room, I called the front desk (call center, but whatever) to let them know our fridge wasn't working well. I didn't really need them to replace it, just wanted them to know so they could switch it out when we checked out. But they insisted on sending someone up. I thought they were going to work on it and I regretted calling cause we had wanted to nap. But the maintenance guy came quickly and just switched it out for us. The new one worked like 10% better. ha.

We hung out in the room for a bit, and it never really cleared up outside. It was still raining on and off, and soon we had to head off to our dinner destination in Disney Springs.

Boo rain!

We made our way into Disney Springs and I had no idea where I was going. We had some time to kill, so we went in some stores as we were walking. I was hoping to pin trade a bit, but I'm not great at approaching CMs, so I just didn't...ha

Passed the spot for the new Ample Hills location. Too many choices for sweets at Disney Springs! I already have a hard time deciding...and that's IF I have room after dinner (I never do).

We eventually made our way to dinner at Jaleo. I forgot to take a photo of the outside on the way in! But I got one later (I think)

We were seated pretty quickly and our server came over to take our drink orders and see if we had any questions. I think I had the Doppelbock on tap, but I can't remember for sure.

R decided to go with a tasting menu with Spanish wine pairings. I just picked three tapas, despite the server trying to talk me into a tasting too. SO glad I didn't do that after I saw how much food we got. I should have just gotten 1 or MAYBE 2 tapas and them sampled what R got. It was so much food.

R's first course. That bread was delicious! He only let me have one bite :hilarious: From the menu:
Pan de cristal con tomate
Toasted slices of uniquely crispy and ethereal bread brushed with fresh tomato

Not sure what the cheese was. I didn't pay super close attention. The sommelier (if that's what he was) gave R tons of info about each wine pairing when he brought it out.

My first dish came out

Manzanas con hinojo y queso manchego
Sliced apple and fennel salad with Manchego cheese, walnuts and sherry dressing

This was so dang good! I could have just eaten this salad and been happy. It turned out to be part of the tasting menu too, so I got to have more since R isn't a big salad person.

Can't remember what this was, sorry! I must say the timing of our dishes was great! Especially for the beginning of the meal. It seemed like toward the end our server and sommelier were distracted by a large party, but it's ok, they were still plenty attentive.

Tortilla de patatas clásica*
Spanish omelette with potatoes and onions

By far my least favorite thing we got. Can't say I recommend it. It wasn't bad, just really boring and honestly a bit bland.

R is taking his shot of gazpacho.
Gazpacho estilo Algeciras
Classic chilled Spanish soup made with tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers

He said it was very good! Not sure which salad that is, but I remember us not finishing that one. I'm sure it was still good though.

Croquetas de pollo
Traditional chicken fritters

These came out on a "Cinderella pillow" haha. Kind of weird, but ok! Gotta tie in Disney somehow, I guess. These were just ok to me. I mean I do love a fried thing...but there was so much other good stuff!

My other plate! YUM.
Chorizo casero con puré de patatas al aceite de oliva
Traditional chorizo with olive oil potato purée and cider sauce

R had a few more plates come out, but I can't remember what they are, so I am skipping them. I was STUFFFFFED. Imagine how stuffed R was! Our server asked me about dessert, and I had to laugh. I did take a look at the menu though.

One thing I forgot to mention, there were two ladies sitting next to us who also did the tasting menu, but one step up from R's so it was for both of them. I'm not sure if they were sisters or just bffs, but they were hilarious to watch. Every time another course came out, they had the server take a picture of them with it...and it was like 12 different dishes :hilarious:

Anyway, I also took a picture inside the bathroom since that's a thing on here and this particular bathroom needed to be photographed! I went a second time before we left, just so that I could take my phone in with me and take this...

Pretty wild in there! I like it!

R's tasting menu came with a dessert, so I did have a little something sweet. It was flan.

I actually REALLY liked this!

And with that we said goodbye to Jaleo. It was a top notch experience! I have heard glowing reviews from almost everyone, so I'm glad it lived up to my expectations.

Tried to get a photo by the new orange bird wall...lighting was not on my side.

We did more shopping and I restrained myself from buying LP a whole new wardrobe in Zara. I did get a sheriff woody shirt in Uniqlo that I LOVE. That place is amazing.

I also popped over to the pin store, but didn't see much I wanted and there weren't trading boards out like I thought there would be. I don't know why I thought they always had them out.

Up next, fireworks on the balcony

Once we got back to the resort, I think this is the night we grabbed drinks at the Outer Wave and went up to the room to watch the fireworks. I got the audio on the tv and it was wonderful!

It was foggy, but I managed to get a few decent shots.

And with that we went to bed! It was kind of nice to get to sleep at a halfway decent hour.

Thanks for the review on Jaleo... I have been curious! The view and these shots of the fireworks are amazing! How awesome!

So I'm just catching up on your TR. I'm glad you and DH could get away and enjoy some time together for your 7th anniversary! Your presents sound great!

The Contemporary welcomed us with some much-needed chocolates that I scarfed down. It didn't do much to satiate me, but it was mostly tasty! Some of the truffles(?) were better than others.

Chocolate is always a good idea! :geek::geek:

Of course! The shipping is ridiculously expensive, so I hardly ever get international orders, but the option is definitely there :) Here's my Etsy shop. And if you ever see something you like that is out in your size, I can probably restock it for you. So glad you all like the shirts!

Had No idea you had an etsy shop! I'm now very excited to prepare for our trip next year!! 🤩🤩🤩

1. I'm awkward with face characters. SO AWKWARD.:banghead::banghead::geek:🤪

I get so excited to see the face characters, I'm really awkward, too but I tend to talk forever to them because of it!

Great Boo to You pics! The lady in the background of your PhotoPass pics is cracking me up!

I'm sure she'd be really embarrassed to know she ruined your shots! But it's pretty funny!

Love these ground markers for some reason. Sorry, I could have cropped my feet out. ha

It's magical touches like the ground markers on Pooh that make everything a little extra magical!

Traditional chorizo with olive oil potato purée and cider sauce

Jaleo sounds like a spot we will definitely have to try! So many of the choices look delicious! Plus, the bathroom looks very cool!

So sorry to hear about your loss a few years ago. My husband lost his father on JAn 4th this year. Thinking of you. And @riverside during the holidays.

Well, I completely let this thing go! I have just been lazy about it, but I am going to try to finish it up for you guys! I of course have forgotten a lot in the last month, but let's be honest...we're just here for the pictures :hilarious:

We dragged this morning a little, but we were at the bus stop by about 9:30. Being able to look at the bus times in the room was pretty helpful! We never had to wait long for a bus.

Checking out the Skyliner, which I swore up and down I would NOT be riding.

We made it! Lines at bag check not bad at all.

First stop, Toy Story Land! This was the first time I've ever seen this photopass spot without a huge line, so we hopped in.

Coming for you Slink!

We had an excellent ride on Slinky Dog Dash. I love it! I'm sad I wasn't able to get us a fast pass for it in February (with my friends).

After this, we decided to head over to Galaxy's Edge to check it out. I'm not going to poop on it too much, but I'll say up front that I didn't enjoy my time there.

There were two reasons:
1. I was hangry
2. I don't like being confused and it was SO confusing. The wayfinding is really difficult, or maybe I was just really turned around, but I got frustrated fast.

We waited about 20 minutes for Smuggler's Run. The queue was pretty cool!

The ride was ok. We were engineers, which was boring. I didn't really know what to do and I couldn't see the screen that well, so I was underwhelmed. Can you tell I'm just kind of over Star Wars? :hilarious: I am looking forward to riding Rise of the Resistance! Hopefully it'll make me like the land more.

After the ride, R declared that I needed to eat because I was being a butt. So I stomped around trying to find food and finally found Ronto Roasters. I got whatever the basic wrap thing is and couldn't find anywhere to sit. I got SO MAD at this guy taking up a whole table reading a book. Like unreasonably mad...that's how hangry I was. We went around the corner and found a little ledge to sit on and eat. I didn't even take a picture, oops.

Feeling slightly better. The ronto wrap was good! I'd definitely get it again.

We had an Oga's Cantina reservation, so we went looking for it. We had some time to waste, so we found the blue milk.

I liked it ok! I can't remember now what it tasted like, but I was happy with it. I wouldn't get it again though because it was $8. That's STUPID. Does no one else realize how dumb that is? What a rip-off :hilarious:

We headed back to Oga's. There was a line outside so we hopped in it. It was where you check in, and a cast member was making her way down the line checking everyone in. We honestly weren't feeling it...the line was pretty long so we figured we'd be waiting a while to get in. We asked the CM if we could just cancel without penalty, and she said that was no problem. So we did that and headed over to Baseline instead. R wanted to just go on to Epcot, but I still hadn't tried Baseline!

zero recollection about what we liked :hilarious:

We decided to head on out at this point, and I wanted to check out the shops on the way.

Lots of Frozen II stuff! I still haven't seen it. I want to so bad!

When we left the park, the boat was just pulling away. It was a tad hot, so walking wasn't super appealing. So me, the girl who SWORE she wouldn't get on the skyliner after it got stuck for 3 hours, got on the skyliner...

My face during every take off and pull into the station....

We survived! It's really nice actually. It got a little hot when the breeze wasn't coming through, but it wasn't unbearable. Sadly, I left my pin lanyard on there when we got off. I definitely looked behind me as I got off each one, but it must have slipped off the seat. I did a lost and found request or whatever, but they never found it.

Our first stop at Epcot was France

Boeuf Braisé à la Bordelaise, Pomme Dauphine: Beef Braised in Cabernet Sauvignon with Red Onions and Puffed Potatoes $6.50

Thanks to my laziness, I don't remember anything about this stuff. I'm sure it was fine! I tend to remember the extremes...like if I REALLY liked something or REALLY hated something.

Next we stopped by Brazil

Moqueca: Brazilian Seafood Stew featuring Scallops, Shrimp and White Fish with Coconut-lime Sauce and Steamed Rice $5.25
M.I.A. Beer Company Barbossa Black Beer, Doral, FL $4.50

I always enjoy this seafood stew! It's not the best on such a hot day, but it's still good.

I had to stop by Morocco for my fav...

Spicy Hummus Fries with Cucumber, Tomatoes, Onions, Tzatziki, and Chipotle Sauce $8

These were a little different this year, but still GREAT! Mine were a tad too crispy, but I still liked them. Sad the price went up though.

NY Strip Steak Green Shermoula Flatbread with fresh Radish and Tomato Salsa $9

Also got this from Morocco, but I can't remember how it was...besides expensive :hilarious:

We moved on to Japan next, which I was excited for (as usual!)

  • Teriyaki Chicken Bun: Steamed Bun filled with Chicken, Vegetables and a Sweet Teriyaki Sauce (KA) $5.75
  • Frothy Ramen: Chilled Noodles and Dashi Broth with a Light Foam Topping $6
After walking around the store, I decided I wanted to try something I've been eyeing FOREVER.

I think it was the kakigori rainbow, but I can't remember for sure. All I know is that it was good! It really hit the spot.

Up next: more Epcot and a break

We made our way around the rest of World Showcase just taking it all in.

Found an open photopass person and convinced R to have one taken.

Stopped at Shimmering Sips next

Pretty sure this was Key Lime Mimosa with Key Lime Sparkling Wine and Cranberry Juice $6 but it seems like it would be cranberry colored? Dunno

Next I had to get my favorite dessert from the previous year at the Cheese Studio!

MMMMMMM
Maple Bourbon Cheesecake with Maple Bourbon Cream, Caramel and Pecan Crunch (V) $4.50

Just as good as I remembered. I want some now!

R got his fav dessert at the Chocolate Studio

Liquid Nitro Chocolate-Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey-Caramel (GF) $5.25

Both of these things are just flipping good.

R also got this Twinings® Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Frozen Cocktail with Caramel Vodka $11. He didn't care for it.

Stopped for a bubblegum wall picture on the way out.

We hopped on the monorail for the long ride back to the Contemporary. We planned to just chill in the room, but I decided I wanted to hit the pool for a bit.

I grabbed a way overpriced drink and found myself one of the only open chairs in the shade. I read there for about 20 minutes, then a few of the families around me started coming back to their chairs and I felt awkward, so I just headed back up.

Enjoyed the view from the balcony and read some more!

After some rest, we headed back to Epcot. I'd made us a FP for Soarin' so I had to wear my newest shirt design

It was at this point that I realized it said "these little beauties" across my chest...:hilarious: How did that double entendre occur to me before?

We got the nice curvy Eiffel.

It was such a beautiful night!!

Our plan for the evening was to just meander around World Showcase and eat some more Food & Wine Fest items. I decided to grab a second butternut squash ravioli from the Wine & Dine Studio.

Butternut Squash Ravioli with Brown Butter Vinaigrette, Parmesan Cheese and Pumpkin Seeds. For some reason it wasn't as good this time. I think it had less of the vinaigrette.

While I was there, R went to the Hawaii booth.

Grilled Tuna Tataki with Seaweed Salad, Pickled Cucumbers and Wasabi Cream inspired by AULANI Disney Vacation Club® Villas, Ko Olina Hawai’i $5.25
AULANI Sunrise: Vodka, DOLE® Pineapple Juice, and Grenadine $14

I wasn't as impressed with the tuna as I thought I would be, but the drink was yummy and I loved the cup! We kept it of course.

Up next: finishing up our night

Next we headed to Mexico.

  • Taco de Puerco: Shredded Pork Belly on a Corn Tortilla with Salsa Verde $6.50
  • Tostada de Carne: Braised Beef on a Corn Tostada with Mole Oaxaqueño and Chicharrón Dust $6.95
  • Cerveza Por Favor: Mexican Craft Beer served with a Liqueur Floater $5
I don't remember much about these, but I'm sure they were fine.

Next we headed into the Epcot Experience, which is where the Odyssey used to be. It was very cool! I could definitely feel the Disney magic in there.

We went to The Alps next

Good ole trash can food! Except we got kicked off the trash can because there was a private event happening behind us. Or so the condescending cast member said. We walked back by like 30 minutes later and there was still not a soul there. I assume it was for the fireworks, so I don't know why we needed to move that early? We weren't even blocking the entrance to the private area...it just irked me.

  • Venison Stew with Crushed Potatoes $6 (pictured above)
  • Blueberry and Almond Frangipane Tart with Crème Fraîche Cream and Blue Diamond® Almonds (V) (KA) $4.50
  • Frozen Rosé $9
R ate the stew and I ate the tart. I enjoyed the tart very much!!!

That's the last food shot I have, so I guess we just walked around a bit and then headed out.

We got the Toy Story monorail! Yay!

I talked R into getting off at the Grand Floridian to check out the new Enchanted Rose bar. Even though we were severely underdressed.

This place was AMAZING. The bartenders were so friendly and funny, and the atmosphere is great. I still feel bad for looking like bums in there...oops. We chatted a little with a fellow who was there for a conference. I don't remember what all we got, except for the truffle fries. I loved them!

We were probably there about an hour, then we headed on to our resort. We got there in time to see the fireworks again!

Seriously love having a theme park view. Also, seriously love getting to bed early again :inlove:

Up next, last day

Wow! Are you a little hangry now😀
Getting hungry looking at the food pix!!!
Pretty sure this was Key Lime Mimosa with Key Lime Sparkling Wine and Cranberry Juice $6
And now I am getting thirsty! How did I miss this? Sounds amazing!

"These little beauties" :hilarious: Your best shirt yet! How do I find you on Etsy?

I was cracking up when I saw the shirt. My mind immediately went right there.
I just made shirts for my son’s team. The coach’s motto this year is “it’s about us” so that is what I had put across the front. I told the screener “put it high so it doesnt look like we are talking about the boo bs”. (I also made some for some of the parents. I could just see the moms showing up wearing its about us emblazoned on their chests😂😂😂😂)
