Trip Report No Baby, Still No Sleep, but LOTS of Food - Oct Trip to the Contemporary

Hello friends and happy Halloween eve!

Here is a link to my pre-trip

Several things changed between that pre-trip report and the actual trip, mostly reservations. Let's get into it!

Who: Me and R, celebrating 7 yEARS!
You may be wondering where the tiny person that accompanied us in the spring is. She stayed home with her doting grandparents and didn't even miss us! My mom kept her at our house all but one night, so she was happy in her normal routine.
When: Oct 19-24
Where: The Contemporary

Our trip started on a Saturday, which was a first for us. My mom arrived at the house around eleven and we finished up packing. I made sure she knew where everything was and we got on the road around noon. I got emotional in the car, but after that I was ok! I'm not a super emotional person, so while I missed my girl and felt weird without her, I wasn't like crying the whole time.

Our drive to the airport went smoothly and we stopped for some Lenny's once we got through security (only takes like 5 seconds in Memphis)

Not the most appetizing photo, but I love subs.

Some cute Southwest decor.

Flight took off on time and landed early. Score! We'd used ME tags so we didn't have to pick up luggage. We waited a little bit to get on a bus, then we were the last of 4 stops. The most expensive resort takes the longest to get to  Go figure. I think it was around 1.5 hours between the bus leaving and finally getting there because there was some traffic backed up near the Poly. I feel like maybe that's what they tell you to expect, but it almost never takes that long once you're going.

We'd originally planned to eat at Wine Bar George that night, but cancelled it a while back. I figured I'd rather try to get to Epcot that night and if we couldn't, we'd just eat at the Contemporary. With the long ME ride, I was worried, but it worked out. Also I was STARVING.

Perhaps my extreme hunger made me see these as fried eggs. I couldn't unsee it for the rest of the trip.

A quick nighttime shot in the room. I didn't do room photos since we were in a hurry to get to Epcot.

The Contemporary welcomed us with some much-needed chocolates that I scarfed down. It didn't do much to satiate me, but it was mostly tasty! Some of the truffles(?) were better than others.

I think we were on the monorail by 8:30 or a little after.

Hello, beautiful!

We made a beeline for some food.

Active Eats
  1. Loaded Macaroni & Cheese with Nueske's® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar and Leeks
  2. M.I.A. Beer Company HRD WTR Key Lime Hard Sparkling Water, Doral, FL (basically, lime White Claw)
The mac and cheese was good as usual and we basically inhaled it.

The Cheese Studio
  1. Braised Beef “Stroganoff” with Tiny Egg Noodles, Wild Mushrooms and Boursin® Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese Sauce
  2. Black Pepper Boursin® Soufflé with Fig Marmalade
We've gotten the stroganoff before and always enjoy it. I let R eat most of it because the soufflé was mostly for me. I don't think he even tried it! I liked it. I'm not really familiar with soufflé or what the texture should be like, but based on what I've read it seems like they did a good job. I loved the fig marmalade too!

Inside the souffle

I had gotten us a FP+ for Epcot Forever, so we didn't venture far. We decided to check out the place that's in the old O Canada space.

Appleseed Orchard
  1. M.I.A. Beer Company Apple Trappe Belgian-Style Tripel Ale, Doral, FL
  2. Playalinda Brewing Co. Apple Pie Beer, Titusville, FL
  3. Sea Dog Brewing Co. Green Apple Ale, Clearwater, FL
  4. Ciderboys Lemon Cello Hard Cider, Stevens Point, WI
  5. Collective Arts Brewing Cherry Apple Hard Cider, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
  6. Woodchuck Hard Cider Spiced Apple, Middlebury, VT
All of this was in flight form as you can see in the photo. None of them really wowed us, but it was all refreshing.

At this point it was about 15 minutes until Epcot Forever (it was at 10pm this night), so we headed to the FP area and found us a spot to sit. Everyone stood when the show started, which I was fine with.

I didn't hate it, but I thought it was a little boring. I don't have nostalgic ties to Epcot, and I think that's who this is for. Also the wind was blowing toward us, so it was really smoky and we got stuff in our eyes a few times. I guess it's a good thing I didn't LOVE this show, since it's temporary. I'm interested to see the one they're working on!

We exited with the rest of humanity after I made a stop at the pin station and bought some pins. There were a couple of limited edition ones I wanted and some mystery boxes that had just come out. R almost choked when he heard the total :hilarious: It's not a cheap hobby!

If I remember right, we didn't have issues getting on the monorail. It does take some time to get all the way around from the TTC to the Contemporary, but we survived.

When we got back, we decided to grab a drink at the Wave lounge because most lounges closed at 10 and the Wave was open til 1, I believe. We got a couple of drinks and some waffle fries (YUM!) and for some reason I took no pictures. Three girls in the college program sat next to us and we chatted with them a little because one of them was from Tennessee as well ,and the Vols game was on. One of them was a character attendant and actually knew a friend of Anna/Rapunzel who goes to the school where I work. Small world!

Anyway, we headed back around midnight and crashed. It was a long day, but a great start to the trip!

Next we headed to Mexico.

  • Taco de Puerco: Shredded Pork Belly on a Corn Tortilla with Salsa Verde $6.50
  • Tostada de Carne: Braised Beef on a Corn Tostada with Mole Oaxaqueño and Chicharrón Dust $6.95
  • Cerveza Por Favor: Mexican Craft Beer served with a Liqueur Floater $5
I don't remember much about these, but I'm sure they were fine.

Next we headed into the Epcot Experience, which is where the Odyssey used to be. It was very cool! I could definitely feel the Disney magic in there.

We went to The Alps next

Good ole trash can food! Except we got kicked off the trash can because there was a private event happening behind us. Or so the condescending cast member said. We walked back by like 30 minutes later and there was still not a soul there. I assume it was for the fireworks, so I don't know why we needed to move that early? We weren't even blocking the entrance to the private area...it just irked me.

  • Venison Stew with Crushed Potatoes $6 (pictured above)
  • Blueberry and Almond Frangipane Tart with Crème Fraîche Cream and Blue Diamond® Almonds (V) (KA) $4.50
  • Frozen Rosé $9
R ate the stew and I ate the tart. I enjoyed the tart very much!!!

That's the last food shot I have, so I guess we just walked around a bit and then headed out.

We got the Toy Story monorail! Yay!

I talked R into getting off at the Grand Floridian to check out the new Enchanted Rose bar. Even though we were severely underdressed.

This place was AMAZING. The bartenders were so friendly and funny, and the atmosphere is great. I still feel bad for looking like bums in there...oops. We chatted a little with a fellow who was there for a conference. I don't remember what all we got, except for the truffle fries. I loved them!

We were probably there about an hour, then we headed on to our resort. We got there in time to see the fireworks again!

Seriously love having a theme park view. Also, seriously love getting to bed early again :inlove:

Up next, last day

Looking at the liquor menus you shared, were they all $21?! That was the only figure I could find (at the top) of both pages of the menu.

Those were just the two with stories, there were a lot more cocktails available on the other pages. They weren't all that expensive! They were definitely high though, higher than other places on Disney property even.

Seeing all of your food pictures is making me excited for my next trip, although it will be flower and garden and not food and wine!

Flower and Garden is awesome too!! Lots and lots of delicious snacks to try there. Plus Epcot is absolutely beautiful during that festival.

"These little beauties" :hilarious: Your best shirt yet! How do I find you on Etsy?

Hahaha yeah it actually might be my 2nd favorite of all my shirts...it's just my kind of humor. My shop name is just kristimcmurry right now! I'm hoping to brand the shop this year. I'm tossing around names right now, but Favorite Deputy Supply (or Shop?) is what I'm leaning toward!

Wow! Are you a little hangry now😀
Getting hungry looking at the food pix!!!

And now I am getting thirsty! How did I miss this? Sounds amazing!

I was cracking up when I saw the shirt. My mind immediately went right there.
I just made shirts for my son’s team. The coach’s motto this year is “it’s about us” so that is what I had put across the front. I told the screener “put it high so it doesnt look like we are talking about the boo bs”. (I also made some for some of the parents. I could just see the moms showing up wearing its about us emblazoned on their chests😂😂😂😂)

Hahaha no not hangry, just annoyed at high Disney prices. For some reason that one really bugs me! I knew as soon as I wore it, people would think it was supposed to be a joke :hilarious: Oh well. It's my kind of silliness, so I love it, even it wasn't intentional.

I swear the refrigerators never work!
Also - you asked me about that shirt and it did not occur to me either :hilarious:

I hadn't really ever noticed, but we bought cokes and some creamer for coffee and they were almost warm in there! Crazy. But yeah the new one wasn't much better. I just worried it might be an issue if someone after us had medicine or something that needed to be in the fridge :(

Oct 23, Day 4

We were up and moving pretty early this morning and got on a bus around 8:30am

Assuming this was a new-ish bus. It was nice inside!

So where were we headed?

Finally! We don't spend a lot of time here because honestly all R wants to do is go to Food & Wine Festival. I told him I'm ready to spend more time in other places again...ha. Maybe me and LP will venture off on our own some when we do family trips and he can go eat to his heart's content.

We walked around the Tree of Life a little just looking at the animals. It was a bit crowded this day, if I remember right.

Made our way to Pandora first to use our FP for Flight of Passage.

FoP was fun as usual. We waited forever in that line before the preshow...you know, where they start splitting you up. I swear, we always get stuck there at least 20 minutes.

After the ride, I wanted a snack to avoid another hangry episode. I had eaten a pop tart when I got up, so I wasn't on the edge or anything :hilarious:

Got a pineapple lumpia and night blossom. So good! I've had a night blossom before, but not the lumpia. I LOVE pineapple and I LOVE cream cheese, so it was a win for me. It was also quite messy, so thank goodness for that paper wrapping on it.

We had some time before our Everest FP and I wanted to pop in the stores up front to check for pin boards. Ran into Kevin on the way!

She's SO cute! And such a great little feature in this area of the park. I love this kind of spontaneous stuff. I was sad to see DeVine go, but glad there are still things like this.

Headed to Everest! Not sure what's going on with that light leak. I dropped my camera the day before, but not very far. I think it was on the bus, I dropped it from my seat to the floor or something. Not sure if the lens got damaged or what? It's not one I use other than traveling, so I haven't checked it since we got home.

We hopped in line for my first time on Everest in forever!! I missed it so much while I was pregnant, then we didn't even go to AK when we took the baby in March!

More light leak, but in a different spot, which means it's probably just a flare. Just a weird looking flare.

Wahooooo!

Having a blast! You can see my new pin lanyard in this photo. I forgot to mention I bought one in Epcot the previous night, since I'd lost mine. I still had a few traders left that had been in the room, thankfully.

R looked at the app and the line for Dinosaur was only like 15 minutes, so we headed over there. Well by the time we got there, it jumped to like 40 minutes, so we changed our mind. I don't think I'd even made us a 3rd FP.

I hopped on the app and found a FP for Test Track, so we headed over to Epcot (I'm sure you're very shocked by this...)

On the way out, we saw Kevin again!

She had a super cute moment with one of the cast members. The attendant was talking about how much Kevin loves this cast member and how wonder she was. It was sweet.

I looked around the shops and got up the courage to approach a cast member with pins. And HOT DIGGITY DOG did I luck out! He'd just gotten some new ones, so I got one of the new country bears pins and a GMR pin. They are two off the collections from the recent hidden mickey sets that I am trying to collect. I was SO excited. I know...I'm 32. I don't care :hilarious:

We headed to the bus stop and didn't have to wait too long. Maybe 10 minutes?

Up next: Epcot again

Oct 23, Day 4 (continued)

Soon enough, we were here!

R made us a pretty crazy looking monstrosity.

After our ride, we headed over to World Showcase via the Odyssey, which meant we were starting on the Mexico side again. We started with some grub from China

Chicken Dumplings with Chinese Slaw (KA) $4.95

The slaw was like 5 little teeny pieces. But the dumplings were good as always.

Such a pretty pavilion! Wish that scooter had been further over, but oh well.

Next we made our way over to India

Korma Chicken with Cucumber Tomato Salad, Almonds, Cashews and Warm Naan Bread $5.25

I don't know why I didn't get the mango lassi, I really liked it last year. The chicken was good. The flavor is there, I just don't like how runny it is. I need more bread to soak it all up.

This sky writer was going for a WHILE. I don't remember what all he wrote, but it was a lot.

On to Africa

Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato and Corn Mealie Pap and Kachumbari Slaw $5.75
Piri Piri Skewered Shrimp with Citrus-scented Couscous $6.75

I'm not the hugest shrimp fan, but this had good flavor, and I do like couscous. The tenderloin was awful. Hopefully we just got a bad batch. The taste was good, but the meat was chewy and gross.

I was PUMPED about our next booth! Italy!

Ravioli Carbonara: Parmesan and Pecorino Ravioli, Egg Yolk, Cream, and Bacon $7.25
Pollo: Crispy Chicken with Marinara Sauce (KA) $6

I wanted to try it all!!! I absolutely loved the ravioli. And it was a huge portion! One of the best values we got, for sure. I feel like the Italy booth has really turned around for the better this year. Their F&G offerings in 2019 were great as well. We also really liked this chicken. I mean it's basically chicken strips, but it was good with the sauce, plus the breading was good.

Next we got the flight from Brewer's Collection

We love that pomegranate beer. It's honestly WAY better than the grapefruit, to us.

I was pretty full at this point, but I was really feelin some ice cream. I almost feel like I'm breaking the law if I pass the France pavilion without getting a sweet treat.

I think that's the yogurt and berries flavor. It was super refreshing!

Time for a break! I think we got our passholder coasters before we headed out of the park, but I didn't take a picture.

We spent a few hours back in the room just watching tv, and I was enjoying the balcony with the MK view.

Up next: Another Epcot night

Oct 23, Day 4 (continued)

Originally, we had a Citricos ressie for this night, but I had canceled it. I just wasn't feeling it, and since we did California Grill brunch and Jaleo, we'd already spent a lot of money on meals. We decided we'd rather have another chill night in Epcot and maybe somewhere on the monorail line after.

I'd gotten us a FP for Pirates or HM or something (I can't remember what it was at this point), so we headed over to the MK. It. Was. Packed. Holy crap.

Here's what I figured out. Every other night that week was either a Halloween party or a corporate event (the previous evening), so this was the only normal night at MK this week, which made it MOBBED. We walked in, walked to Frontierland, turned around and walked right back out. Forget that mess.

Doesn't look that bad here, but all the rides had long waits and it was just that "busy" vibe, you know?

R had to run to the restroom on the way out, and I stood outside watching the flag retreat. I love this tradition.

We made our way over to Epcot!

Ok, so these girls in front of us. I remember taking this picture because I felt like we were stalking them. We walked in the park behind them and ended up seeing them again like 4 times that night!

We headed over to Coastal Eats first for me to try something again that I didn't like last year (what is wrong with me?)

Lump Crab Cake with Napa Cabbage Slaw and Avocado-Lemongrass Cream $5.50

I give up on this. I LOVE a good crab cake. But I hate a bad crab cake, and this is a bad crab cake. The texture is just not good. I don't know how to describe it really...I am terrible at descriptions. But I've had good ones, and this is not good. Maybe we've just been unlucky and gotten duds...I do like to give these booths a little grace since the production is so different from a regular restaurant.

Pacifico True Striped Bass Tostada with Slaw and Fire-roasted Tomatillo Sauce $6

Honestly don't remember a thing about this :hilarious:

Next R really wanted to hit up La Cava. I won't argue with that!

My choice

His choice (El Diablo)

He usually gets the jalepeno (I think they just renamed it). I took the tiniest sip of this and almost spit it out it was so spicy.

I made this for some reason...

I love evenings in World Showcase!

We headed to the America pavilion next for Hops & Barley

  • New England Lobster Roll: Warm Lobster with Fresh Herb Mayonnaise and Griddled Roll $8.25
  • New Brunswick Slider: Slow-braised Beef Brisket “Pot Roast Style” with Horseradish Cream and Crispy Fried Onions on a Potato Roll with Pickled Vegetables on the side $6

I had REALLY wanted to try this lobster roll, and it did not disappoint! It was a ton of meat and so filling. Plus so tasty. And I'm not even a big lobster fan!

Finishing off that El Diablo

:inlove:

I was feelin real good :hilarious: and really wanted some of that delicious Brazil food!

Pão de Queijo: Brazilian Cheese Bread (GF) (V) (KA) $4.50

R claims these need marinara sauce. I dunno, I like them as is, but I do love some good sauce to dip in! I don't think marinara is very Brazilian though :joyfull:

We had one more booth we HAD to hit up. Ireland

Warm Chocolate Pudding with Irish Cream Liqueur Custard (V) $4.25
Guinness Baileys Shake $11

The pudding is one of our favorite things and it was DELICIOUS as usual. The shake was also quite good! It was a wonderful note to end on.

A parting photo pass session

Sweet little Remy! At one point a CM I was pin trading with had a trivia pin (where you answer a question before you trade) and her trivia was "Can you name 2 Disney movie characters with gray fur?" I said Baloo, then I couldn't think of anyone else. She was like "who is our mascot for the festival?!" Took me a second, but I got it :hilarious:

Also speaking of Remy...Ratatouille is SUCH an amazing movie. I hadn't watched many Disney movies in a while until Disney+ came out and rewatching them just makes me appreciate them even more. That's a truly great one.

We headed out after that and said goodbye to Epcot

Up next: One last hurrah!

Oct 23, Day 4 (continued)

But our night wasn't over! I convinced R to stop at the Poly tonight (didn't take much effort to convince him). We stopped in Trader Sams, but didn't see an open table, so we headed to the Tiki Terrace.

No idea what the drink is, but we got Kalua Pork Tacos and Pan-fried Dumplings (not pictured)

I didn't realize people came here for the fireworks, but our server said a lot of people do. It wasn't a good view, but it was cool to see what we could from there and hear the music!

Hello, beautiful lobby! We did a little shopping before we headed out. Well...I did.

We hopped on the monorail and headed back to the Contemporary. Remember when I said MK was crowded? I have NEVER seen so many people trying to get on the monorail/boats as when we went through there. It was absolutely bonkers! I was praising God we weren't in that mess. At least if we were, we'd be able to walk back to the resort. It was just a mass of humanity there trying to leave the park...sheesh. I'm sure it's even worse than that on NYE. I don't think I could ever do it

Well that's all I've got for ya! Our flight the next morning was pretty early, so we were up and out the door around 6am. They were testing fireworks for the new Christmas party show that morning, so we got a parting fireworks show, which was kind of cool :inlove:

Travel home went really smoothly and R's mom brought LP home to us pretty quickly after we arrived home, so we were reunited and it was so sweet. We missed her! It was great to have some time with just R, but we both talked constantly about how much we missed that silly girl.

I am so excited to take her with us again in March! I think she'll do much MUCH better this time. She's still a home-body, but she does better away from home now than she did as a newborn.

Before that, though, I'll be heading down with my friends in Feb for the Princess Half Marathon, which I haven't been training for. So that should be fun :hilarious:

I hope you all enjoyed this! Sorry it took me a while to finish it up.

Happy Anniversary! Thanks for sharing your trip! I especially enjoyed all the food pictures! The Night Blossom and Pongu Lumpia from Pandora are faves of mine too! Yum! Looking forward to reading about your upcoming trips!

Enjoyed your TR as always. Glad you and Rhett had a good time. One of these days I’ll make it to F&W. I just wish it wasn’t during the fall. (School :arghh:)

Their F&G offerings in 2019 were great as well.
I definitely agree. I didn’t try the fried tomatoes with the mozzarella slices, but I got the sausage flatbread and the chicken tortellini, and they were both great and the portions were very generous.

Once again, I’m glad y’all had a great trip and I hope LP is doing well.

PS
Just want to say that I enjoyed your Advent calendar pin videos. I know you said that you filmed some ahead of time, but you did a good job not falling behind. Keep up the good work with the channel.

We were both at Epcot on the last day, I scanned the photos for evidence but didn't see us in any of them.

Is that a rooftop terrace at La Cava? I've don't recall ever seeing that area.
