Nintendo Question

I do not know much about gaming systems. I have a PS2 and it's sole purpose was for the game Kingdom Hearts, other then that I am not up to date with the latest games and systems.
My father still has our old Super Nintendo from when I was a kid. It still works perfectly and he plays The Legend of Zelda all the time. He loves that game! (I must admit, it's a pretty sweet game for the time period anyways)
My mother was thinking maybe he would like a new system that he can play newer Zelda and Mario games on. I know that they only make these for Nintendo but my question is, can you still buy the gamecube and gamecube games? I am not sure how old of a system this is. I know the Wii is the new thing for Nintendo but my dad is kind of old and I am not sure if he would find that easy to play or not, and I don't think my mom wants to spend that type of money just so he can get one game like Zelda.
Can you still buy the gamecube? Is it a good system to buy and is it fairly simple to play? How are the Zelda games for it? Any suggestions on this would be appreciated. I just laugh at him when he is in his little room playing Zelda for SNES all day long. But he loves it!

You can probably find used/refurb Gamecubes at Gamestop stores or ebay.

Depending on the game, the gameplay can be fun and simple, or crazy hard and a PITA :).

I love the Zelda Windwaker game for the gamecube, though. It's a very fun game and isn't excessivly hard to play. It's probably one of my favorite games.

I believe I still saw Gamecubes around earlier this year at Toys R Us (pretty cheap, too). If not, check with the computer/gaming stores in your area. Some of them around here sell used systems and may even take a trade. We actually have a game cube around here in a box; my son upgraded to a Wii but won't let me get rid of the gamecube.

Good Luck!

How many years old are gamecubes anyways?

I just looked on the gamestop website and it was listed as 39.99 for a refurbished. That sounds like a great price. Would you think they would still be in good working order?

I noticed there is gamestop in the mall near my house so maybe I will go in there and ask about it. Also thanks for the Toys R Us suggestion. I will look into that as well.

I am just not sure if it is silly to buy an old game system. But he is a fairly simple person, I mean anything newer will be better then the SNES I suppose.

If you can find a Nintendo Wii, you can download all the old Zelda games for a nominal price ($10-$15). They are stored on the flash drive, and you won't have to insert a disc to play them. Plus it plays all the old gamecube games.

The Gamecube was Nintendo's current offering up until last year when they came out with Wii, so the technology isn't all that old. The machines only have a few moving parts that may wear out. Ours was probably 4 or 5 years old and still worked great.

Another thing to consider is that there will be plenty of used games available at Gamestop really cheap!

If you have a gamestop near you that would be the best place I can think of to find a gamecube....the price for a gamecube at gamestop is....used 39.99.

If you did want to splurge I would go for the Wii. I think it comes with a game. The graphics are amazing compared to Super Nintendo. The best thing about it is the way the controller moves with the game. My Dad is not a video game player but he loves the way you "swing" the golf club or "bowl" or even "smash" an overhead lob at tennis. This year we played video games after the Thanksgiving meal instead of watching football. (It might be hard to find a system before the holidays though.)

Yeah that's my mother for you though. I have been asking her for months what dad would like and yesterday she says, "You know I've been thinking he needs a new video game thingy." And then she expects me to take care of it because I own a PS2 and therefore am an expert on buying game "thingys.":lol:

The Wii is great! It is different than alot of the newer games. I think that your dad might really like it. It is so interactive. Out of all the systems that we have I like it the best besides the Super Nintendo and that is because I love the old Mario games.
Blockbuster and GameStop always have alot of the Gamecube games if you decide to go that route, and eBay is a really good place to pick them up too. Good luck.

I totally agree, DisneyShe, between Super Mario Galaxy and Guitar Hero III, the Wii takes up most of my social life lately. The only thing is it's extremely difficult to find, especially this time of year =( Maybe it would be a good birthday gift?
