Theme park screen attractions, aside from Shrek, cannot be recreated at home. I’m tired of this hyperbole. If you actually can recreate something like Kong or Flight of Passage I’d be shocked and amazed.

Flight Of Passage was a simulator, but at least it they went all out with it. I can accept that.

Kong was two screens on the sides of the vehicle with bland CGI for me. And the ending just had a Kong animatronic head that, while impressive, was nothing compared to Kongfrontation's massive ape.

I feel like Universal should tone down on screens. I have a TV that has better resolution than Minion Mayhem.

Let me put it this way:

If I'm in something like the Spiderman ride but it's Mario with a huge screen, sure, I'm shifting around a bit and have a parabolic screen in front of me but it's largely the same POV at playing Mario Kart and will be a disappointment.

Yes, it's slightly better with shifting the car around and the parabolic screen but it'll be a disappointment for video game based rides.

I don't even have a problem with it being used for Spiderman, Transformers, or Harry Potter. I sometimes think that they tend to rely on it a bit too much but, yeah, it works really well. The transitions in HP:FJ are pretty fantastic.

Copying the Spiderman ride as Mario Kart? That seems like a Disney move. It'll be a disappointment.

I agree with that but to say these experiences can be recreated at home is where I had an issue. It’s a flat out lie unless you are extremely rich and can build a ride in your backyard.

I hope its not another spiderman clone.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I feel the only way to do Mario Kart justice would be to make it actual go karts, but with a new level of augmented reality to kick the theming up to a new level. The ride vehicle would be capable of spinning independently of the wheels for when the vehicle is hit by an object.

I recall one of the creatives who led Race Through New York responding to a question about concerns over yet another simulator. Part of his answer was "Really the only way to do that is in a projected environment, because we're obviously not going to recreate Manhattan physically and go rip-roaring through it." I mean he was given a tough question but that's a worrying answer. If they can't build a physical environment of Manhattan (or the places in Supercharged, Reign of Kong, etc.), I can't see them bringing Mario Kart to life well.

I hope they do but that's an impossible task.

And yet they’ve had a ride that careens around Manhattan for nearly 20 years...

Actual go karts IMO is a terrible idea. Go karts don’t belong in high level theme parks.

I don’t believe @TubaGeek is implying to the idea of riders having control of they’re own go karts, but, rather having riders sit in a go kart that’s being controlled by a system with interactive options, all as part of the illusion.

Why not?

If they're not dirty and smelly and plain like your local go karts, and are instead clean and highly-themed, then why is it a problem? I think you are against it because there's no example to compare to. Legend has it Lillian asked Walt why he wanted to build an amusement park, because "amusement parks are dirty." She had nothing to compare it to. Luckily Walt had the vision.

The go karts at our local amusement park are pretty awesome - they're electric and look like real-ish racecars. With super high theming, they would be an amazing replacement for the gas-powered smelly-mobiles that are currently at Tomorrowland.
