Some headlines:
  • Jay Gruden, the former Bengals OC, is now Washington's new coach. Interesting hire. I remember Jay Gruden when he played in the Arena Football League for the Orlando Predators. (That still exists by the way. ESPN signed a new TV deal with the league after spending a few years on NFL Network and CBS Sports Network.) He was also a head coach in that league and the now defunct UFL.
  • Suh, not surprisingly, is the league's most feared player.
  • David Wilson is undergoing neck surgery.
  • The 15 finalists for this year's Hall of Fame class was announced today.

Tough picks this week. It's hard to beat a team twice, and Seattle and Carolina will have to do that today. The Chargers are impossible to pick, and I think the Colts have a shot at beating New England if they play up to their capability. Tough games

Ne is 7.5 point favorites.... Indy is hot but will they finally hit a speed bump? I find it hard to pick against Brady ... But they just aren't that deep this year.

- I'm still not sure about the 49ers and Panthers.
- The Chargers are lucky against the Broncos. They just look like a better team when they play Peyton. I just can't pick them with all that talent on the Broncos' side.
- The Patriots are hobbled and Indy is hot. I like the Colts chance here to take them down, but Brady somehow will make it work for him. Sack Brady early on in both halfs and it might dishearten him enough to give the game to the Colts.
- Seahawks. That stadium and that defense.

49ers - it all boils down to if they can kill the x-factor with capernick. I think he's surging enough that he will get those 2-3 big conversions with his feet.. and the gore/davis machine is clicking.

Peyton has never beaten the Chargers in the playoffs and he always seem to struggle against them, even when he had talented receivers with Indy. So as of now, I'm going for the upset special. I could change my mind come Sunday though....

- Panthers over 49ers. They are similar teams, but I give the edge to the Panthers because they are at home, and I like their defense more.

- Going with the Colts over the Pats because they are getting hot. The Patriots aren't that deep this season, and with the playoffs a new experience for several players on this team, I can't go with them.

- Seahawks over the Saints. Their defense is top-notch, they are getting Percy Harvin (which I still haven't decided whether that's good or not), and they are at home. I think the Saints can win, though.

- Chargers over Broncos. Manning has never beat Rivers, and he's never beaten the Chargers in the playoffs. The Chargers are a hot team, winning 5 in a row coming in to this game (at least I think they've won 5 in a row). The Broncos defense won't be able to stop the Chargers running game, allowing San Diego to control the clock, which is how you beat uptempo offenses. Plus, Manning's history in the playoffs doesn't have me confident that he'll win.

Get ready to root for the AFC then... I really don't see Carolina or SF beating this team.
I'm rooting for the Chargers to win the AFC. and then New Orleans or Carolina to win the NFC. Two tall orders there. I'd rather have any team (aside from the 49ers) win the Super Bowl over the Seahawks. I'm not sure why I dislike them, but I do. Richard Sherman is an easy target to hate... along with several other defenders. I hate Golden Tate, and Percy Harvin isn't high on my list, stemming back to his roots with Minnesota. So I guess that's why I don't like them.

Speaking of hated teams, here's a rank'ems from ESPN.com on the most hated teams in the NFL. #1 is the most hated, and #32 is the least hated. I guess America's Team is the most hated team in the league.

Thought the Eagles would be higher. Then again, everyone outside the Northeast wants Philly, Boston and NY to fail every year in all sports. (Throw in LA in the mix for baseball and the NBA). And Dallas, well, that's self-explanatory. They get all the attention and nothing to show for it. From my observations, the four most hated teams in the four major sports as of now are the Cowboys, Yankees, Heat and in hockey, well, that depends. Ask anyone in Canada, they'll all say the Leafs because of the money and all the attention they get and have nothing to show for. In the US, well, I'd say the Penguins because of Crosby.

And speaking of which, Lane Kiffin. Yes, the former Raiders coach, Lane Kiffin, is the new OC for Alabama. I'm pretty sure Auburn is guaranteeing a repeat for the SEC West right now....
