That's kind of a joke among Packer fans. As long as Jay is playing, we have a chance! :p I don't know what it is, but Cutler just has a tendency to play poorly against the Packers.

I agree that McCown is probably the better answer right now, but for the long term, Jay would be a better option IMO.

Oh sweetie, it isn't just a joke among Packer fans! And Jay boy has a tendency to play poorly against most teams. Takes aim and throws the ball into the bellies of the defense.

McCown is the answer for now, which is what you think would matter for this weeks game. Future, maybe next year philosophy, well I save that for my Cubbie Bears.

Tony Romo had back surgery this morning and is officially out for the season, as he has been placed on IR. Kyle Orton is going to be the starter this weekend, and most likely into the playoffs, should they make it.

I think the Patriots have the AFC now. Peyton isn't as good in cold weather, and their defense is suspect

After last weekend, I'd say anybody can take it. Colts come back to life, Pats crush the Ravens after laying an egg down in Miami, etc etc etc. Gotta love the tiebreaker - nobody gunning for the AFC 6 spot controls their own destiny - makes all the games important.

Rodgers coming back means anyone in the NFC can take it as well, cos they will knock out the one team there that can't this weekend... oh, yeah, Dallas is toast as well.

Other 'deep thoughts' (not by Jack Handey)

Nobody the Miami coaching/management tree is safe (completely and totally regardless of the success so far and what they may do if they make the playoffs). That investigative report on them, depending on what's in it, can still take out a whole ton of jobs.

I remember some months ago reading about Norwegian Professional Hockey. IIRC, the higher seeded home team 'chooses' what visiting club they face, instead of following the chalk. Imagine if they did that - the talk about the top seed choosing to play the #3 seed instead of the #4 because they think it's a better matchup -how that would play in the press (the disrespect label)...

So I'm confused with the AFC 6 spot race. If none of the teams control their own destiny, then what if the Chargers, Ravens, Steelers, and Chargers all win? Who gets it?

I believe it would be the Dolphins because they currently hold the 6th seed. Because if everyone won, then the standings wouldn't change, right? At least that's my analysis, but it could very well be wrong. I have been confused with the AFC 6th seed, too.

Basically, from what I've read online, to clinch the sixth seed, these are the scenarios:

MIA: Needs to win plus a Ravens loss OR Win and SD win
BAL: Must win plus a Dolphins loss OR Chargers loss
SD: Must win against the KC plus they need Miami AND Baltimore to lose
PIT: Must win and they need MIA, BAL and SD to all lose

So Pittsburgh needs the most help. According to Bleacher Report, if all four win, MIA gets the last spot. If all four lose, BAL gets the last spot.

Of all those teams, I hope SD gets in.

So you can blame "she must not be named" every time they spoil someone's pick for playoff pick em?

Speaking of which, I don't know if any of us are interested in play-off pick em or not. And for fantasy footballers, I don't know if other sites do this but I know NFL.com has a Playoff Fantasy game every year, which doesn't correlate to your regular season fantasy team but it's not too bad. (You pick your players every week as opposed to drafting before the season and then starting your roster. No waivers, no trades, no add/drops.)

I like this 'tiebreaker' stuff.

First, you determine the seeding within the division. You can't make the playoffs if you finish behind a team that doesn't.

Multiple team (3 or more) tiebreakers have to apply to all or they are put aside.

Miami *must* win for a shot to get in. If they lose, they finish 3rd in the division behind the Jets (who can't win any tiebreakers so they are out). They are in in both the 3 team 9 win tie as well as a SD/MIA 9 win tie. If it's a MIA/BAL 2 team tie MIA's conference record superiority means squat since BAL beat them head to head.

San Diego *must* win for a shot as well. They lose in all tiebreaker scenarios, so the only way they get in is if they win & BAL & Mia loses.

Pittsburgh needs everyone else to lose along with a win. They would get in by winning the tiebreaker between themselves, the Jets, and SD.

Baltimore is the only team that can lose and still get in. They can't win a 3 way 9 team tie, but if tied with Mia OR SD solo they take it. They also take a 8 win tie (providing Pittsburgh loses).

On the surface, it would appear that Baltimore has the best chance to make it. But that doesn't account for who each team plays.

Bal is going to Cincy, who is playing for seeding.
Mia is hosting the Jets, on paper should win, but anything can happen (Mia got swept by Buffalo).
SD is hosting the Chiefs. Chiefs may rest players, or may want to get better momentum for the playoffs.
Pit is hosting Cleveland.

The 'most likely results' in my opinion mean Miami goes in. Baltimore may be the least likely to make it based on who they are playing. While all teams need 'help', only Miami doesn't need the help to come in the form of an upset or two.

I've always kinda liked San Diego for some reason - might be their unis.

And I would be up for a playoff pick'em, too.

Looks like another snowy game for the Packers tomorrow at Soldier Field. Tomorrow is going to be a long day up until gametime.

The Packers have activated Randall Cobb from IR. It is anticipated that he will play in some capacity tomorrow versus the Bears.
