New WDW additions vs. Harry Potter announcements

I have to say I am a bit disappointed in the Universal annoucement. They went the EXTREMELY conservative route with this. I would think that a Hogwarts resort would be a no-brainer. You could make the most elaborate and amazing hotel experience ever built.

I do see why this has happened this way thought. I am sure that investors are worried about the staying power of HP. I love the series, but I must admit I will probably not have the same staying power in 10-20 years as other properties do/will. Imagine making a huge addition and resort, only to have no one care about HP in 15 years. It would be quite a bust.

exactly. The movie itself, was pretty enjoyable...until they started sparkling. That even got a "" from my wife. Vampires DO NOT SPARKLE. :brick:

I love Disney and very much look forward to the Fantasyland expansion far more than the Harry Potter land. However, in terms of general audience, I think the Harry Potter land will be better because of the extreme popularity of the books/movies.

Of course it all depends on execution but HP will be just another adventure to be had at IOA.

However an extension of FL will affect the overall storytelling experience of the park. An expansion of the "happiest kingdom of them all" brings more attention to the fantasy aspect of the MK. Typically most guests (not fanboys/girls) don't remember the fantasy element of the trip (unless they have little girls). Most guests think about Splash or BTM or Space or POTC and HM as the funnest things in the park. But with more focus on the fantasy, the experience of visiting the MK will be changed forever.

Also I thought I read somewhere that J. K. Rowling didn't want her characters to appear for meet and greets in WWoHP. Instead she only wanted streetmosphere.

In the expanded FL not only will you get to greet characters - you get more QT with them!!! According to the announcement Disney will create ways for kids to retell the story of BatB to Belle, to celebrate a B-day with Aurora, to be able to see Cinderella be transformed from rags to a ball gown, etc. Disney's proven timeless characters will seem way more real to kids! And it's magic you can experience with your park admission - you don't need to spend additional money on a wand from Ollivander's Wand Shop....

I think this is a huge plus to FL!! And although I think I'll love both FL and WWoHP - the enhanced character encounters at FL will blow WWoHP out of the water - just my opinion...

Don't underestimate the Princesses!!!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Without a Shadow of a doubt for me anyway, The Fantasyland Expansion beats hp hands down!! I cant stand harry potter so i have no interest in seeing this area, and honestly i find universal can be done in a day or 2 whereas i could stay for weeks and weeks in The World :sohappy:

WDW is finally gettin some love and its gonna be better than ever :sohappy:

The HP hype was what got me started reading the books and watching the movies. Now that I'm through with the books and know how the story ends a lot of the excitement around HP is gone. I'm not waiting for the next book to be finished anymore. After how many years who wins Harry or Voldermort? Definitly I'll visit WWoHP - but it seems like it is really retail heavy. I'll pop into the shops and restaurants - I'll try a butter beer and avoid the pumpkin juice - but that's all I need from Hogsmeade village. I don't think I'll get any more enjoyment out of those shops than I get from looking at the concept art.

I think FL will have a lot more magic. I can already see my friends singing Bonjour in Belle's village -

Little town, It's a quiet village, Ev'ry day like the one before
Little town, Full of little people, Waking up to say:

Townsfolk:
Bonjour!
Bonjour!
Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour!

This is biased. If you look at it without likes (like I dont like Pincess's) they are very equal.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I'd say that, regardless of other statistics, HP wins simply because it is HP.
Right now, at least, I think that more people would want to see a HP land than an extended FL. Obviously this doesn't apply to most of us, but I'm talking about those who AREN'T WDW fanboys.

I don't know about this.

I know HP is a global phenomenon but realistically if you were to poll people I'd bet most of them would recognize Cinderella, Ariel, Belle before Harry Potter.

I am not saying they are not popular, both of them immensely but the Disney Princesses have been around far longer and I believe have the slight edge in terms of global recognition.

I don't think that's what he's saying.

I think he's saying that normal, nonDisney fan families with children over the age of 10 are more likely to pick new Harry Potter land over Princess land.

Good for both parks& consumers. That being said ,I gotta go with FL.
Never got into HP (too old!)I actually thought that they were talking about
the Col. from MASH! Imagine that,an amusement park based on war torn Korea ! Anyway,my 10yr.son is way more interested in the new SW.

Anyways, let me state again to you Harry Potters and Fantasylanders, that while both nice, I plan on motoring west to get my kicks on Route 66.

*Can't wait for Carsland to open to buy Radiator Springs kitsch*

Seems like a pretty big deal. If you're comparing it to the FL expansion, it doesn't seem equal to me. Just my opinion.

Actually let me amend my comment ... they haven't told us anything about this alleged breakthrough in dark rides that is supposedly being installed.

Yes we know about the shops, dining, and the old attractions that they are re-themeing but I don't care about any of that ... I do care about the new attraction which we know nothing about except the name and the nice comments whylightbulb makes ...

That was my intention with the comment. They should be smarter with their marketing and let us in on what this ride would be like.

If they were smart wouldn't it have made a huge impact on D23 if they unveiled what this alleged "game changing" ride would be? Nothing.

I think the marketing has been terrible, especially for an attraction that is opening in 6 months? We have seen more footage, art, concept etc for Little Mermaid which isn't opening for two years!

Uni needs to "step yo' game up!"

Well it's going to be a 2-3 year difference, so that will make it interesting.

It would have been really crazy if both opened in the same time, but oh well.

I don't know which one will win out, I think FL is *slightly* more huge overall, but then again, it's a Disney project and who knows how much will be dropped from it before its open

I really, really am not into HP but since it will be at a park I do like and looks to be well made, surely I'll visit. My vote goes to FL because without a doubt it will be an amazing addition to the most frequented/visited theme park on the planet.
