New water-side restaurant 'Spice Road Table' coming to Epcot's Morocco Pavilion?

That's a lot of outdoor seating. Wouldn't think outside would be too popular May-Nov.
I assume it's in response to Rose & Crown (where the outdoor seats are in high demand for fireworks viewing, and people sometimes get upset when they're stuck indoors). As long as the tables are covered (and if they provide heat lamps in the winter), I think the outdoor seating should be fine.

Gotcha. I was thinking about midday dining, but I guess that's not the main draw here.

According to the Disney Food Blog, the name of the new restaurant will be "Tapaz". Most of the seating will be outdoors (120 outdoor seats vs. 60 indoor seats), and the menu will feature tapas, small plates, and unique olive oils and ingredients from various Mediterranean countries.
What nonsense that.

Tapas is Spanish. If 'Tapaz' is presented as a Moroccan restaurant, it would be an affront to both Spanish and Moroccan culinary traditions that this place serves tapas as a national specialty.

If this restaurant is presented as 'generic Mediterranean', this is an affront to Moroccan cuisine (they do have one!), and a plain evaporation of theme in WS.

Let's serve 'European food' in France, pizza's in Norway, while 'anything having to do with rice' is send to Japan. Pfft. Philistines. What's next, princesses in Norway!?

I don't see anything wrong with the concept. Even though "tapas" is a Spanish word, there are now lots of restaurants that focus on "small plates" representing a variety of cuisines - American, Asian, etc. I don't see why "small plates" has to be limited to "Spanish".

Also, Marrakesh is one of the least popular restaurants in World Showcase, so why would Disney want another solely Moroccan TS restaurant? I'm sure Tapaz will include Moroccan dishes, but if it also incorporates Mediterranean flavors from other countries (especially Spain, which was announced as coming to WS in the 80s), that'll help differentiate it from Marrakesh. The olive oil concept should add some cohesion to the menu, since olive oil is an important ingredient in several Mediterranean cuisines.

If you're worried about evaporation of theme in WS restaurants, Akershus took care of that a long time ago.

They have "meze" in north Africa, so I think this is the (tenuous) link between tapas and Morroco.

I'm all for a new restaurant in Morocco if it means closing Marakesh and building an Aladdin dark ride (since Aladdin is totally Moroccan) Other than that, 3 restaurants in Morocco is pushing it, I don't think EPCOT needs anymore restaurants.

Was just at Disney for several weeks eat at Morocco twice and I disagree that it's not popular. I think this new seating eating area is great. I do not want a water park!! They already have them for those who want to go and get wet. Disney needs to keep the family and adults in mind and not back slide on what brings us to the WS. I was very disappointed on the Food and Wine festival and have been for the last 4 years. If drinking and getting stupid is fun for a family with or without small children that's just very sad.:(

No, this isn't an April Fool's joke (hate them and think people who pull them should be shot ... really!) ... but walls were supposed to go up tonight along the promenade where the new Spice Road restaraurant will be going in at the Morocco pavilion.

So ... better rouse those social media whores from bed so they can be the first one with WALL PICS!!! :)
