New V.I. Passholder Events Include Some Free After Hours Access

It will be interesting to see how quickly these events "sell out". I will reserve judgement until we see how the event is handled. I still think their hours are pathetically short when there is still a major demand but at the very least, and I do stess the very least, this event is free.

They really need to move away from this email based notification. Email is just not a reliable method of mass communication.

It’s definitely frustrating. I have yet to recieve any emails from WDW that aren’t reservation related. And we’ve had APs for almost 7 years. My wife did finally get one the other day for Toy Story Land. Unfortunately it was filled up quickly.

It is nice to see some love coming our way as passholders however it doesn't make me feel like a V. I. Anything since I didn't opt for the gold level or platinum passes. Again not complaining as I live in Florida and the block out months are spent in air conditioning as much as possible.

What perks do Silver get? Well, as a local, if you hit up WDW 40 times in the year, you only paid $10 for each visit. It was the deal to have such a cheap AP in return for accepting a larger number of black out dates and no other add-ons.

This is why all annual passes should be done away with in place of a discount club in which you get discounts for entrance and merch.

The biggest bang for my buck is the week day pass. Works out to four dollars each trip through the turnstiles. But Disney still gets my dining and resort money, which is what they are after in the end. The perks are commensurate to the price paid.

This more than makes up for the crazy resort parking fees....wait, no it doesn't....no wait it does, in Chapek's twisted mind,it does.

This is the first "passholder" email I've ever gotten from Disney over the last 8 years and it doesn't really apply to me since I'm Silver.

So, because you see no derived benefit from this event offering for AP members, means that no one should? The notion that you're entitled to benefits beyond the ones included with an AP is totally absurd.

Again my question is still valid, do you not enjoy the discounts you get for shopping, dining, and hotel? If you don't, I don't think there is any additional perk that Disney can offer you that would make you happy as an AP holder. Perhaps you shouldn't renew.
AP Holder discounts??? You are making a joke - right? I know the purpose of an AP is to gain access to the parks and the perks should not be expected because they are gifts. I enjoy going to the parks which is why I renew. However, in the past 10 years I have watch the great perks grossly decline and now Disney dangles unobtainable gifts/perks to the average AP holder and it gets frustrating. Like Pandora and Toy Story Land. Somehow the Social Media darlings got these special invites, but the average Joe didn't. And the Hotel and dining discounts have become a joke. I get a much larger selection of discounted Disney meals using my Disney Visa and cheaper Disney Hotel rates being a Florida resident. Saving $5 to the Mickey's Not so Scary event is sad (my equivalent Universal AP allows me access to Halloween Horror Nights on select dates for free!). I used to get free miniature golf, but now I get 10% off. And of course I have no expectation of being "one of the chosen" to enjoy the new V.I.PASSHOLDER promo (since this event will have limited capacity and registration will be required - Translation the average Joe will NEVER get the invite or will NEVER get their email submitted in time to enjoy this perk). And the Social media darlings will keep saying over and over we shouldn't expect the perks, although they are probably attending all of the special events. Oh wait - I did get a magnet.

This is pretty darn cool if you ask me!!! I wont be able to attend any of the three dates but I am excited that Disney is placing a value on the loyalty of the AP holders. I hope that they are looking at this as a test to see how well it goes and similar to Moonlight Magic events for the DVC owners are planned a little further out so I might be able to align an event with my trips. Good job Disney!! Marie

Technically speaking, with Silver's 77 blackout dates and the cost after tax you need to go approximately 47 days (46.75400 for those playing along at home) for $10 a visit, so in the applicable 288 days, you need to spend 16.3% of your year at Walt Disney World, which can be done if you spend Saturday and Sunday at WDW for 6 months.

If we were to add Gold to that, Gold would need to go approximately 63 days (62.72900 for those playing along at home) for $10 a visit, so in the applicable 341 days, you need to spend 19.65% of your year at Walt Disney World, which can be done if you spend Saturday and Sunday at WDW for 8 months.

It was the deal to have such a cheap AP in return for accepting a larger number of black out dates and no other add-ons.

That's why I believe the Silver tier is primed for about a $50-100 pricing increase since between Silver and Gold is a $159.75 pricing difference. That's why Theme Park Select in my feeling was introduced, which it's on average 118 days blocked out (without MK it goes to a paltry 77 days)

Some fun metrics for everyone (New APs only); Blackout dates are from June 2018 - July 2019:

Note: The Passport prices have a 3.25% sales tax oddly enough when Florida's Sales tax in Orange County is 6.5%. This could be a generalization between California since apparently there is no sales tax on tickets for Disneyland according to some quick google searching.

I'm not sure why silver holders are upset. You pay less so why should you be entitled to experience these things? Sorry but that's the point of paying for the higher tiers, to feel "special". It's like the same concept of paying for season tickets at the Dr. Philips Center in downtown O-town; if you are willing to fork out more you'll get rewarded.

Thanks for bringing this up. I don't feel entitled with a gold pass or look down on those with silver. It's the nature of paid tiers. Didn't they just give silver a few weeks in june? I actually was a little ticked about it since it was during our visit and we paid not to be blacked out then.

Is this a great extra? Not really, but it's slightly different then popping in extra magic hours. They could do better, but hard to get mad about an hour or two thrown a few folks way that they probably aren't ever going to get again in the way of regular longer hours resort wide. As an out of towner, i kind of have to live with the fact that more than likely, things like this wont ever work for us at a good time of year. I guess at least they aren't turning it into a dessert party.

They haven't sent the e mail as of yet. Keep an eye on your e mail for it. I did get the Passholder event for Toy Story Land e mail, responded immediately and was able to get in. Marie

in Cali, amusement park tickets are excluded from tax (another area DL has been lobbying and negotiating with gov over).
